Imagine all the people you could pull around with a John Deere 4555. The dual rear tire four wheel drive version of course.

How about just making the city smaller in area, and more foot friendly, rather than spreading it farther apart every year?
Oh riight-- because the organizers zip around in golf carts and pickups, and don't care about what it's like on foot or bike.

They don't expand it every year.
It seems like everyone keeps missing the real point; it WASN'T that much bigger, it was the shitty conditions this year that made travel difficult. It would have still sucked with last year's map.

Short shorts do make me feel better! But a sarong works even better.
You're right, CD, they don't make it bigger every year, but they did make everything farther apart this year. Which is odd in a city where they are trying to discourage motorized transport and encourage peddle and foot power.
I'd like to see the streets closer in, and add a big wide boulevard at what would be the new D or E street, (Where A was this year?) wide enough to have art installation all along the center of it.
I think it would be cool, and fun.

After following the other thread on this and thinking about it a bit, I vote No for a mass transit system. First off, we're supposed to be self reliant. Second, the BMORG isn't likely to take this upon themselves as they have plenty of other things to do without creating mass transit. Third, it's way too much for one camp or group to take on something as mundane as regularly scheduled transit service. It would be a totally thankless job. If you're shuttle runs late, people will be all pissed off. If you don't go where they want, they will be all pissed off. If you run over their foot, they will be all pissed off, and will probably try to sue you. Feh... let em walk!
A plan is what you vary from.
Destiny Lounge 3D will be at Bradbury and 3:15 this year as a part of the 404: Village Not Found group of camps! Come see us!

Well, I voted for it as a theme camp, even though I doubt it will happen.
I also don't think that the questions were asked correctly-- the last two should have been combined with the "Yes"-- i.e.
Should there be a transit system?
No
Yes, as a theme camp
Yes, run by Burning Man
In any event, it would be rather difficult for a camp to set up (would it be one main camp and a bunch of satellite camps set up around the city?), as well as reasons cited by bigbluedoggy, and I don't see the BMORG doing for the reason bigbluedoggy stated above.

If there isn't going to be transport, the city needs to be a reasonable shape for pedestrians.
A pacman pie has been suggested and a full circle.
A square or rectangle would work.
I suggested wings jutting out from the main city for the loud camps.
With the number of people, it is more practical to do something than not to.
I wonder how much of the lesser art on the playa has to do with many people never seeing it?
I also mentioned the gridlock of bikes in certain places on the esplanade.
Many people coming from a great distance find it very difficult to arrange for even a bike.
How many cars coming from a thousand miles or further away are carrying bikes instead of someone else that really wanted to go?
How many projects get tabled in favor of the space and expense of carrying bikes?
You might have enjoyed some of what didn't show up.
It's easy to trivialize this when you don't travel far.
Maybe it's your loss too, though.
It's seems incredibly stupid to me not to do something about this.
It is very cost efficient at this point, maybe profitable even.
I was told a few years ago that there are more people coming from other countries than east of the mississippi.
I wonder if this is getting worse or better?
I would suggest that a lot of art and creativity is being missed because of this loss of participation.

This is just like politician's promises to provide and give... we'll all pay for it in taxes, in this case ticket prices.
Who doesn't bring bikes because one more person wanted to ride with them? Does that extra person get strapped on the roof where the bikes would have been instead?

Personally I like the idea of a mid-city blvd like Steve suggested, for the placement of smaller art installations.
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

I agree I should have put these together. I seen that and went to change it and someone had already voted.
I would love to do this and put it together if I had all the resources. Of course the big cost is finding the tram that would work to carry a good amount of people.

My vote goes to more rain in 2009 so we can get a nice crust on the Playa and do some decent bike riding.
I would support a transit system if the Playa was un-rideable due to thick dust, which it mostly was this year.
I would have loved a transit system this year. The lack of mobility out there was a real bummer.

Anyway, I want to take on the mass transit issue. I propose a subway!

Hmmm, what about a series of canals? We could be the "Venice" in the desert. Heyyy! I want a magnetically levitate monorail built on top of pylons, high over the desert, with stations accessible by escalators and elevators. The whole thing can be powered by a nuclear power plant buried beneath the Man! Yeah!

Actually, as a Lamplighter that walked that playa every evening, I must disagree with you my friend. It was noticeably longer walks this year.Captain Goddammit wrote:They don't expand it every year.
