Gifts?
Gifts?
'Ello all. I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the correct area (if not please tell me the correct place) but I have an idea for what I am going to do for gifts this year. However I am going to need your help. I'm going to need your favorite quotes/sayings. They can be poems, quotes from movies, books, or one of your own. Anything memorable that sticks in your mind.
See you in about 300 days!
Stay beautiful everyone
Love, Jess

Straight ahead and rest assured you can't be sure at all.
So while you're here enjoy the view.
Keep on doing what you do
So hold on tight we’ll muddle through
So up on your feet. (Up on your feet)
Somewhere there's music playing.
Don't you worry none we'll just take it like it comes.

"Many were increasingly of the opinion that they'd all made a big mistake in coming down from the trees in the first place. And some said that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no one should ever have left the oceans.
And then, one Thursday, nearly two thousand years after one man had been nailed to a tree for saying how great it would be to be nice to people for a change, one girl sitting on her own in a small cafe in Rickmansworth suddenly realized what it was that had been going wrong all this time, and she finally knew how the world could be made a good and happy place. This time it was right, it would work, and no one would have to get nailed to anything. Sadly, however, before she could get to a phone to tell anyone about it, a terribly stupid catastrophe occurred, and the idea was lost forever. "

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, don't just give out crap for the hell of it. a gift should have some meaning. If you're just handing out crappy necklaces to random strangers to say that you gave gifts, well I think you don't really see the point. Honestly some form of connection should be made, I only give gifts that A. People need, or B. I feel that I made some kind of connection with that person, and I want them to remember me somehow. I just know that some of the best gifting stories come about when there is real meaning behind it. Don't just go out and make some kind of bulk gifts, so you think you can gift as many people as possible. Also considering A LOT of it just gets lost on the playa, and picked up as MOOP.
I've seldom recieved gifts from other physical people. I find that the MOOP I connect with (and don't dispose of in some deep recess of my backpack) is a gift from the playa itself. Since Im not good at talking to others, I find that doing a task such as scanning the ground as I walk is a very instant reward.
I like it when I find temp. tattoos the most though!

To tell you the truth, when I ran across some of the aphorisms that he opened chapters of Watchmen with, but that I'd never seen before, I secretly cheered.

I'm hoping to break my cherry in 09. Already gunho (got my tickets and art projects started) but I'm having trouble with this whole gift idea. I can understand lending a hand to help or sharing as a gift. But coming up with a trinket to pass out baffles me. I guess I don't understand the gifting all that well. So, being that I'm a noob, what will be expected of me when it comes to gifts. Help me to not look like a tool.

You know, the number of people on our village's private board who are planning to assassinate me because I haven't yet sent out the patches that I didn't get in time to distribute on playa, belies the idea that random trinkets are never welcome as schwag.

You wanna gift us? Survive without being a burden on your fellow burners
Bring plenty of water and drink it.
Read the survival guide. Again.
Practice random acts of helping out people, i.e. setting up/tearing down camp, not doinking their wife Well, bmad might be ok with that one
If your part of a camp, pull your weight, and share of rebar at the end
Don't moop
Pick up moop
Put only poop and pee pee in the porta potties and for dog's sake don't hover!
Talk to your neighbor.
But if you really wanna gift something else, I'd like a gift card from Crutchfield's

The right "tool" at the right time can be the best gift!
Trinket's are just that, trinkets. Last year Laminates were the really hot "trinket"
A smily face button that says "I burned in '09" probably won't make it and they will be found on the ground, nothing but moop! Unless........really special

FWIW I have always found that Barbies, wine, and the occassional beer make wonderful gifts. Oh, and Otter Pops. If you can't lure a lovely lady into your camp with alcohol I have found that the seductive nature of an Otter Pop in the middle of a scorching afternoon to be irresistable. Um, am I answering the question correctly?

My favorite quote ever, and quite appropriate for Burning Man.
As for gifts, I've found there are two types that stay with me.
1. From someone you connected with: Anything.
2. From a random person: something you'd use once you get back home. As corny as it sounds, I really liked the shot glasses I got with "Burning Man 2008" on them this year.

I've seen Doc's ladies, Jem, and they're always a bunch of HOT dolls. And he always has a horde of them around, listen to him.
