Anybody have any opinioins/comments on Obama's cabinet choices so far?

Personally, I like what I'm seeing.

I don't know anything about Holder.

I'm really skeptical about H. Clinton for State. She's no John Bolton, of course, but I wouldn't call her diplomatic. We probably need someone really good doing the shuttle diplomacy thing in the middle east, and someone who has credibility with the Palestinians, and with the Israilies too, but let's face it, we always end up in their pockets and that's just ruining us with the islamic world. (And you'd be amazed how few muslims blow up buildings.)

It's way to early to tell, but I'm not all that thrilled about a lot of Clinton appointees making their way back in. Maybe having some experienced cabinet members, so they don't have to learn on the job, is a good think, but the 2nd term of Clinton wasn't much to brag about.

YMMV.

Yup. And there's still two more seats that are undecided. If by some long shot we get those, we'll have a filibuster proof congress.

They'll have no one to blame or take credit for what they do but themselves.

Don't be so sure about that, where there's a will there's a way.

Here are some of the names of either selections or strong possibilities, no?

Gregory Craig -- White House counsel
Tom Daschle -- secretary of health and human services
Janet Napolitano -- homeland security
Penny Pritzker -- commerce secretary
Hillary Clinton -- secretary of state

I'd phase it a bit differently only to add -- The best leaders hire people with experience, listen to them, and after evaluating their considered input, make their most informed decision. (even if it is still contrary to given advice)

Holder will make a great AG!

finally, we will have a AG that would make going after terrorist hate gangs in america a priority.

Every member is a criminal and should be in jail!

We will also see more people of color in higher positions of authority in the FBI.

for too long "Hate Groups" have been getting away with terroristic murdurous acts.

the redefinition is: Terrorist Hate Gangs!

These gangs have terrorized America too long!

Obama should not go overboard with this, lest he be accused of affirmative action or whatever the cons call it now.

I agree UD, I think the perception of "reverse" racism, or, affirmative action is a real concern.........
I think in the con circles, there is a concern regarding "retribution" by those that have felt disenfranchised for a long time....

THe argument of the reality of disenfranchisement and such not withstanding........

So what is the correct 'formula' to prevent going 'overboard'?

10% black, 10% latino, 10% asian, 5% native american, 1% eskimo, 1% other, 63% caucasian?

I don't think that Obama will pick anyone based on race. I think he actually picks based on brain power.

First let me say "Fuck all those people in the con circles, they deserve what they get!"

That being said, I will repeat what I said in my previous post--I think his criteria will be intelligence and suitability to the position. I don't think that race will play any part except that it won't be a reason for excluding a candidate.

JK
wow, JK, you seem bitter..........

I think that's exactly the attitude that promotes "their" fear of retribution, though.......

It's like you say "da man has held us down long enough, now, it payback time", just, not in those words.......

I'd also submit race, gender, religion, will play a role in his decisions........it does at that level a lot.......he will try to be "PC", also pay back some supporters, also want to look fair and inclusive, etc, etc.......I think, at times, two candidates being equally qualified, he may well be influenced by race, or religion, or gender, etc,......take your pick
I'm not saying he shouldn't, but, I don't think it can be denied it will have an impact on the process.......

I do agree with you, that, he will try to choose candidates from the most qualified fields, for the jobs.
I think, though, at times, people conflict on what "qualified" means.......

I'd say, it'll be subjective, as much as objective, all things considered.

Ya, they'll be complaining because none of them have a proper degree from Oral Roberts University or have never toured the Creationism Museum.

But if you think about whether Obama will be 'fair' or not, just think of Lieberman. He'd have been out on his ear had Obama not said otherwise. I will admit that I am not that forgiving.

If nothing else, I am ecstatic that science will play an integral part of the new administration.

I'm sure he'll make some good, some bad choices, it's the human way....(not sure if it's the Messianic way, thought)......

As you point out, some will complain no matter who is appointed.
It's all in YOUR perspective, as to what's ok or not........

I'm just saying it won't be as simple as running a checklist of qualifications and picking that person......in their world, it's all about the politics.......and appearances, not so much what's right, or, best.......

I will agree, that if he does favor pure science, not politically motivated or limited, I'll be happy, too......

A real national security team!

How long did it take Bush to put together a team?

Till after nine eleven!

Almost two years before he talked to his clinton appointed security chief!

Holden is going to be a great General Attorney
