Do you have another question? Are there particulates on my teeth? no. Is the micron turned on? Is the popcorn ready yet?

Reply : It was an attempt to educate you and your sock puppet on the real local health consequences of a coal fire generator plant. If you had an Environmental Impact Report it is all listed on it. And I provided citations and links to why 1 micron soot is not a good thing.

a humble and kindly buckaroo isolated in vasts wastelands of the interior waste I miss out on some of the sophisticated vernacular of you urbane folk.. What the hell is a sock puppet? or a Sock, in your usage.. And Lilly Flower, with a name like that little birds should sit on your shoulder and sing sweet songs...while clear water springs spring magically forth from beneath your feet. You should avoid lowering yourself to the common squabblings of the masses.

BRR, "sock puppet" is the term used for one person creating multiple online accounts and then interacting on the board as if they were different people. What you have just witnessed is sock puppetry at its most masturbatory.

I ran across this verbiage; "Words hardly do justice to the incredible natural resources of Northern Washoe County. To try and describe the top of the Granite Range with its lush native greasses, aspen stands and wet meadows with the Black Rock Desert in sight just over the east edge, or adequately convey the significance of the springs and streams of the Buffalo Meadows and Wall Canyon to the regions wildlife is almost impossible. One official described the area as the "holy land" for its diverse and abundant wildlife, which includes Bighorn sheep, mule deer, pronghorn, sage grouse, lions, chuckar, trout and more. To others these areas are prime hiking camping and bird watching destinations. History buffs treasure the varied and unique cultural resources. No matter one's interests these are perhaps the finest examples of Nevada's rich natural heritage, worthy of belonging to the future generations of our fine state" .... Aye theres the rub, this landscape lies directly east of the proposed coal fired power plant.. within 10 miles.. http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse. ... ted=819102.

Black Rock Ric wrote:Or how I met my wife... Once upon a time, back when BM'ers were allowed to leave, a bunch of BM'ers went over to Fly Geyser, which is this really cool hot lake fed by a triple geyser rising out of a travertine terrace. Crystal clear water, reeds, giant frogs.. pretty nice place, I wrote about it in an essay some posts ago. I went down to gawk at the naked slickers as us hillbillies are wont to do. I wandered around a bit counting souls. There were 138 people at, in, or around the little lake.. The crystal clear water was pretty murky, but hey, I am no snob.. I stripped off and went swimming, while I was swimming about three young women,, college age came to the shore, two stripped nekkid, the third stripped to the cutest maroon skivvies., she appeared appropriately perky.... her friends teased her and she dropped the cute skivvies to the ground and dove into the water with one quick terribly erotic motion,,, at least I thought so.. So me being a dirty dog and a lonely outlander I plotted..... soon I was talking with her.. When the funniest thing happened.. If you walk on travertine terraces you can feel that they are hollow. A fellow, naked, painted with body paint, was doing a performance art dance thing on the travertine terrace, he knew he was really cool. When to his horror, he broke through to the boiling water below. He shot into the air like toast from a super toaster... screaming.. Lori, as such was her name, as she was treading water began to laugh so hard she couldn't tread water and breath at the same time, I had to grab her and pull her too me, when nature took over to her surprise and delight... We wound up driveing back to BRC, getting all her stuff and she has been out in the desert ever since. Once she saw my cowboy hat she was lost to the city...
Dang Ric -- why you ol' wiley chain pullin coyote rascal! I guess all those seemingly prejudiced remarks towards BM'ers were actually terms of affection, its just touching to see a wolf lay down with a "sheep" (let alone marry one). Black Ric you Rock out with your bucko out -- and such an awesome romantic cowboy poet to boot. Thanks for sharing your desert experiences here on the e-playa... (despite your coyote-ish/ornery or in computer speak, troll-y proclivities).

Sorry Ric, but Fly Geyser is as much as manmade as Frog Pond is!

Seems that some city slickers were drilling for oil or such and struck pressurized hot water perhaps artisan.

Zeus no apologies necessary. The wells were drilled for water. The huge frogs were havested for the fancy French cafes in Virginia City. Natural or man made, the beauty is the same. 'Course when you put 138 burning man attendees in it (actual count by me) it is not as purty.

I have some more photos of what lies beyond the Black Rock for those interested.

Uhhmmm. Wait a second. We already had this debate. You were very adamant that man cannot create anything to compare with nature. Not trying to be picky (I think attacking spelling mistakes or grammar is trivial), but this really does cut the legs off your argument that the art created at BM is not worth the 'desecration' of the playa it is held on.

Unless we go down the path of 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'. In which the springs are beautiful, though man-made, in your eyes- and the art and pagentry of BM is not beautiful. Though an argument can then be made that the majority defines beauty (or social concept, re:sanity).

Again, not trying to pick apart your postings, but this declaration startled me.

I could have clarified that my statement was directed at this Fly Geysers specifically, Time heals, These well were drilled a long time ago, mebbe a hundred years or more ago, ponds were dredged, looked like hell I suppose... left alone all this time naturalization of the landscape occured. Similar to the Eastern Forests. 2-300 years ago they were largely cut down.. Today,, the forests are rather attractive.

The Great Divot will heal too, given time. If it is ever given time.

Dang Rob.... I could run with this one.... but I shall restrain myself to; The majority of Americans buy their art at Walmart and Kmart......... so beauty as defined by the majority is.....?

Then supermodels are beauty (ick, for the majority in my opinion) and unfortunately you would then have to define 'art' and 'artists'. I have a very simple definition of art that fits.

Art is tra spelled backwards.

Other than that, you're on your own.

The geysers are very beatiful creations!

138 attendees perhaps not?

Now about those frogs? Are they still as plentiful?

Just thinking about dinner next time I'm at the ranch ya know!

Your lucky to be living out there ric and I can understand your concerns about the impact of so many people but from my observations of all the damage, I was all caused by people outside the BM community. BM seems to be a positive energy on the playa!

PS- can I use your address so I can get a local driver license. I want to pay the reduced fee that you people pay for a BM ticket. What does BM make you pay now a days? It used to free, but the rednecks caused some problems so they made them pay a $35 fee! Still too low by my values but hey if I can lay my hands on one of NV licenses?

I imagine the frogs are still there, the last time I drove by there were large sheet of plywood signs saying roughly KEEP OUT... 'course wandering around BM with a couple of coolers full of frogs might attract attention.

I dunno how much locals are charged, I would be more likely to sneak out with a back hoe and trench the roads in than to attend :D

Which Nevada address do you want to use?

We left the desert, loaded the rig with food and extra water, spare parts for the truck, a couple of Glocks with extra 31 round clips and drove over Donner Pass in a snowstorm, descending into the heart of the beast. We got to Oakland by 10:00 AM. Pacific Sail Expo... Great collection of sailboats. The admiral picked out a new catamaran, we ran into some friends from our Mexico cruising. I decided a composting toilet made more sense than flushing, holding tanks, pumpouts.. Lotta minorities in California, which brought a question to my mind. What is the minority representation at BM. I get the picture it is a buncha white folks with a few yuppie artist Japanese tossed in.. I could be wrong.. Sailors too are mostly a bunch of white folk, although Foxy of Foxy's isn't,, don't know if he sails, but he has funny songs.. Course being from BVI he froze his buttockus in Oakland. Hell of a lot of people, cars, buildings, California was once paradise on earth, still the prettiest landscape I have ever seen.. Green soft feminine hills, patches of live oaks, nice country could use the plague,, thin out the population a bit.

My final opinion.... Everything west of Colfax is Burning Man

uh, clearly these folks have never been to the amazon.

I believe this would be might be a better cadidate for 'holy land' of bio diversity. Funny how ego-centric folks can be.

So dear Stuart, Diverse and abundant wildlife in one location precludes that description from being applied elsewhere? Amazon,, lotta bugs.. humidity, few people.. not a bad place.. Good place for BM?

How many ways can you come up with expressing the same predictable sentiment? If it weren't for the lameness factor that comes from your broken record style of sharing your singular, focused sentiment I might almost find you interesting. Instead, your Crusty Desert Curmudgeon spiel, coupled with your blanket contempt for both the event and the participants has gone far enough that you've painted yourself in the corner reserved for 'Bitter Eccentrics Best Left Alone.' Perhaps a fitting camp theme were you ever to attend.

Your engagement of some of the folks here is kinda sad in my book - especially given your blanket stereotyping that assumes that just because the majority live away from the Black Rock that there's no possibility for a connection to the land. That represents a level of arrogance and bile-laden hubris I hope I never descend to.
Desert dogs drink deep.
