Ladybee's fond farewell
Ladybee's fond farewell
HI everyone 0
Yes, I've left Burning Man to work for newZonia: www.newzonia.org/info.
Sorry to have neglected the e-playa - I posted something to Tribe and there was an announcement on the JRS.
Tribe post:
I have resigned from my position as Art Curator. I've had my job
for ten years, and it's time for me to pass it on. I've been
recruited by newZonia, a new online community based on
creative collaboration and global philanthropy, to be their Global
Arts Curator. www.newzonia.org/info The site will establish the "philanthropic economy" and will connect creative people globally in a collaborative 3D environment. BRAF can benefit from this as well as our other non- profits, and I hope to do a lot of good in the world in my new position. And I hope many of you will get involved.
I'll miss all of you, and please know that you've all made my life
very interesting over the last decade! I hope to bring all the skills
I've acquired here to my new work, which can benefit all of us. I'm
going to continue to work at the office until mid-October, so that I
can finish my post-event work. My last day in the office will be
October 17. While I'll be leaving the office, I'm not leaving the
community, and I won't be far away - just over at Fourth and
Townsend. I look forward to continuing to be involved with the art of
Burning Man, and the organization, in some way.
I"m very excited about my new job and I hope you'll all go to the
site and sign up for your passports!
And here is the JRS post:

A FOND FAREWELL FROM LADYBEE, BURNING MAN'S ART CURATOR
We were quite saddened when LadyBee, Burning Man's art curator,
announced that she would be leaving our fold and moving on to a new
(and exciting) career opportunity, (newZonia)after an illustrious 10-year tenure
with the Burning Man Project. We wish LadyBee all the best that this
new direction can offer, and want to thank her from the bottom of our
hearts for her years of dedication to the art and artists of Burning
Man.
LadyBee's last day at BMHQ was last Friday, and she asked that we
share this with the community:
"October 17, 2008. Today is my last day at the Burning Man office,
and I'd like to thank the whole community for an incredibly
interesting ten years!
I started working as the art curator in 1999, the year the art grant
program came into being. That was before the ARTery existed, before we
received hundreds of grant proposals each year, and long before we had
a gigantic art map with hundreds of art installations on it. It was
long before we had the huge, widespread community that we have now.
It's been a long, fascinating, and very rewarding journey, and I'm a
little sad to be leaving ... but very excited about my new work.
With gratitude and great appreciation for this amazing community,
- LadyBee

Oh, ferchristsake! Stop with the internet rumour bullshit speculation people!
LadyBee,
Thanks for your hard work helping to get all this great stuff to the playa.
I think you brought a slide show to the Art Car Museum in Houston a couple of years ago. It was one of the things that steeled my determination to get my butt out to BRC in 2008. Thanks for that too.
I am sure we will see you around.

I heard they were going to stage one of those statue-people crowd things at the lincoln memorial!Simon of the Playa wrote: (i know you two are actually going to work for a top secret squadron of artists working for the next administration, also known as the "O" team.)
Whoops, sorry, I should have whispered.

Does it really matter? The LAST year will be 2010 and its only sensible to expect the organizers/employees/etc to find other gigs. Bills gotta get paid and all that..Apollonaris Zeus wrote:So you posted your fond farewell on Tribe?
So basically the Bmorg has said fuck Eplaya?
We don't count!
So is your leaving a sign of Change and can we expect someone who might fund more artists then the status quo list that happened under you?

Good luck in your future venture.. commerce driven as it is hopefully you won't have to deal with any BS and make tons of moolah. Thanks for doing all you have done for the community over the years etc etc.

Are you fucking me? YOu meant the last year of Lady Bee is 2010
or wha'cha talkn'bout?
You don't mean that 2010 is the end of the end?
Come on Toolmaker we had our bits of harshness all in fun but what you are saying, say it isn't so!
Lady B I'm sorry if I was hot headed, but I said my accolades of you in the other thread.
And of course, I've always loved you!
Ya' hottie
Damn it tell who dun it! I've got wiseguy connections in New York! Tell me and they're wearing concrete shoes and walking in Lake Lahontah.

Well the last year for the current permit/agreement with BLM is done in 2010. There is no promise implied that it was to be automatically renewed. As I understand the process there will be some sort of meeting to discuss the next permit if there is to be one. The word about ORG not wanted to renew is technically a "rumor" but starts gaining credibility when 2 major staff members announce departure.
Either way I hope that week long Regional is around so I can get to it before I die.

Ha ha ha.
Come on really? The org and BLM do a lot more than a couple of meetings trying to hash out permits. Any studies done, either current or contemplated will be up for public comment, and I have to think anyone in the BMOrg has to think this is about the best job ever, so it ain't dying, and this cash cow is a BLM darling.
This thing dies when we stop buying tickets, and given the last few years, it appears to be a rather bonanza type venture. I can understand that a few folks retiring or moving on seems like an ending, but the org is bloody swimming in talent. Everyone in the org is replaceable, and quite possibly by a more talented individual. Every meeting I have been to underscores that philosophy. The folks at BMOrg are genuinely in awe of the participation.
I wouldn't worry about the Org's devotion to the cause, I'd worry about the jaded participants that have forgotten their role as mentor.

This is a total non-sequitor to me. I suppose people leaving could be indicative of infighting or some other deterioration within the llc, but this whole "not wanting to renew the permit" rumor (which I've only heard for the first time now) just seems like any other wacky urban legend that this community produces.Toolmaker wrote: The word about ORG not wanted to renew is technically a "rumor" but starts gaining credibility when 2 major staff members announce departure.

dont worry, i have hidden the "Who What Where" guide for the past 12 years in an Urn, buried deep in a cave in the Nevada Countryside, along with a sizable collection of playa schwag.
the burning man tradition will live on, and in the future, when they discover the dead lake scrolls, be affirmed, and spread, like cheeze whiz on waiting crackers, to the mouths of a hungry world.
Gerlach will be a divided city, with many laying claim to the hallowed ground known as Bruno's, and fierce fighting for control of hwy 447 will continue for many years, but in the end, when Larry comes back, White Hat Aflame with the Original Wood from the FIRST man, we will all be saved, and it will be thursday night, forever.
amen.
