Ahh, Now I see, you want feedback.

Ok..

I don't think you need bug spray unless you plan on camping somewhere either to or from the event. There are no mosquitos (that I've encountered) on the playa. The only bugs I've seen are the ocassional praying mantis and odd beetle.

Compass - Again, can't really see why you would need this on the playa. (other than for amusement).

Snake Bite kit- Ditto

Blankets (mylar space) Great for decoration but not so good to use as a blanket because they rip fairly easily and don't really breath, they are more for portability/emergencies than anything. A cold to medium weather sleeping bag however is ideal.

Tent stakes (for rugs) I've never had a problem with my rugs blowing away, especially in a shade structure, the stakes would probably cause more of a hazard (stepping on them barefoot or tripping over them) than anything else.

Tire repair kit Patching a tube is a pain in the ass, just bring an extra tube.

Things you might like to add:

Essential oil for your mister (makes it smell great and it's refreshing!)

Cards/magnets/photos or some type of gift with your email address you can gift out to new friends that you want to stay in touch with.

Bug spray
Do you really need a Comb AND a brush?
Deodorant -careful it melts'
Ear plugs - REALLY need them??
Floss - will you even bother?
Toner - you are kidding me
Candles - no wax on the playa. Drip trays needed
Portable toilet - ?!?!?!?!?!
Tent ,Tent stakes (for rugs) - What happened to Re-BAR
Bathing suit - Why not just go nude?
Jeans - On the PLAYA?
Sewing kit - you wont use it
Broom - i am shocked its not a vacum
Reflective bubble wrap - Different
Aluminum foil- WHY

PANTRY- That is A LOT of food!!
Ice Cream?

How many people are you planning this for? That would help us make suggestions better.
Good luck lugging all that stuff to the playa and back. Remember you TAKE WHAT YOU BRING

Hi, I just want to go over your backpack, this is what you are going to be hauling around all the time I assume, that is a lot of stuff. 2002 was my first burn and I went alone and knew no one. I spent a lot of time wandering around and I would never want to have hauled all that.

BACKPACK
Bandanna -- good, useful
Binoculars -- I took a small monocular and never used it
Camelbak -- good, the bladder anyway
Camera -- yep
Compass -- you've got a GPS listed below
Condoms -- Not a bad idea
Cool-ties -- took one and never opened the package
Dust mask -- take extras to give away
Eye drops -- maybe, esp. if you wear contacts
Flashlight -- get a light for you bike that comes off -- double duty
Goggles (sun/yellow) -- ok, sunglasses work as well
GPS -- If you get lost easy ok
Hang tag -- I have no clue what that is
Lip balm -- Yes
Lotion -- to haul around all the time? Use sunblock
Mister/spritzer -- to haul around all the time?
Nasal spray -- took it, never used it
Notepad -- I suppose, if you are networking
Pen
Snack -- I generally carried something but never ever ate it
Sunscreen -- yes
Toilet paper -- Individually wrapped wipes are more useful (use trash bag)
Umbrella -- No
Watch -- on your wrist otherwise you will never look at it
Ziploc trash bag -- Put this inside of a mesh moop bag that you can hook
to your bag or better yet bike. This makes it easier to do your LNT duties.

After my first day I dumped my narrowgage camelback in favor of what I bought as a small coach's bag back when I was a soccer dad. Kind of like a big fanny pack that sits on your hip. Getting to stuff in the narrowgage backpack was a total pain. In it I carried -- bandanna, camel back bladder, camera, some of the gifts that I made, multitool, wipes, a couple of paper dust masks, lip balm, powerbar (I like them but I never ate it), lighter, my moop bag and that it. I dumped the monocular after the second day. My skin does not take much damage from the sun so I would hit the sunblock whenever I swung by the tent. At night I would lighten the load a bit and load the bladder with a mixed drink,

One comment on the food, watermelon seeds are a bad thing, rotting rinds are probably not much better.

Clothes, thats lots of clothes, if you wear pj's to sleep and you have long johns, sleep in the long johns. Jeans and sweats, huh, why? The bathing suit really throws me, you've listed both underwear and lingerie, if you don't want to get naked you've got that..

I do not approve of snake bite kits under any circumstances, they encourage people to go slashing at themselves, generally to no good effect other than cut blood vessels, tendons and infection. Besides that, snakes are way too smart to spend any time in the middle of a salt flat.
My grandfather tried to raise me as a Southern gentleman, that means that I can be a real SOB some of the time.

Lube!

Post by MrMullen » Fri Apr 02, 2004 10:19 am

If you bring condoms, you should bring lube (Astroglide is recommened).

As they say, everything dries out on the Playa.

I think it is a very good list!
Yes there are some things that you won't use, But as a girl scout (ok, former) I' always feel better over prepared than under.
and YES! earplugs!!!...
and YES!! a camp toilet. in the middle of a cold night I don't want to walk the possible 2 blocks to a toilet. I'm fine with the morning "walk of shame" to the p-pots
Mylar blankets help keep the coolers cold so that YES you can have ice cream
Bathing suits can be great costume parts!
foil?> you have to ask why one would bring foil? for cooking with/on/in.

You may want to consider an extra roll of toilet paper and perhaps air freshener for the folks behind you.

A little less funk is a welcomed gift on the playa.
