Besides, Spec is a troll.
None of this arguing thing started until he posted.
And by nature, when someone knows not what they are talking about, I respond.

So get used to it. It's a fucking message board.

You leave messages on it. If anyone does not like what I have to say they can do like I do and not read it. It's not like I am on here intentionally offending anyone. We are talking tech.
And yes, Spec is offensive. No reason to call me a "dipshit" because he doesn't know IPV6.

It's an interesting read for those who don't know the story of moderation on this board.

DVD, you know the definition of a "troll" as much as anyone and while Spectabillis is many things, that is a charge that will never stick. His dipshit comment, your troll countercharge...do two wrongs make it right? No.

I'm tempted to repost the valium pic...it looks like everyone needs some to just forget about all this silly stuff.

you are fortunate our hands were tied, because i would have kicked your ass out years ago. now there are new hands at work and the partner who decreed the policy is no longer involved. so the decision is actually simple for you, either change your ways, leave, or get the boot. its that simple. im standing by to see if things change on the org side, so maybe you will get lucky.

Too bad it's like an acid that eats away your guts, your mind, and many other things. Before most people realize whats happening the damage has been done leaving them a bitter old person who is just a shell of their former selves.

It takes all types to make up a community...and last I checked...yep, it's still there:

Anyone may be a part of Burning Man. We welcome and respect the stranger. No prerequisites exist for participation in our community.

Notice right off the bat the word ANYONE is used. Regardless of quirks, eccentricities, it doesn't matter, the BM community which this board is an extension of welcomes and respects the stranger.

Next we have this one:
Participation
Our community is committed to a radically participatory ethic. We believe that transformative change, whether in the individual or in society, can occur only through the medium of deeply personal participation. We achieve being through doing. Everyone is invited to work. Everyone is invited to play. We make the world real through actions that open the heart.

This one hits home for me. Why? Because it works, and I'm living proof of the concept. Transformative change can occur through participation with this community. My story has been splashed all over these pages going as far back as 2003 for the new board, and 2000 and earlier for the old board. Long story short, it took years for me to get my head out of my ass, but it has happened, and the eplaya and the people here were a big part of that change.

So how does this apply to DVD? Simple. Be the change you seek. If you don't like his behavior, the way to change it is not to push him away and ostracise him. That just creates stalkers and worse problems...No I'm not saying DVD would do that but my point is that behavior has a tendency to generate those results. Instead you pull him into the community, you truly adopt the 10 principles and work them to your advantage. You get someone's confidence, you work with them over time to change the bad behaviors, and in the end you gain a personal friend, and the community gains a contributor who tries to stay engaged and gives back to the community.

I know...I'm on my soapbox here and people hate that. But this board, and the 3Playa are two online places that made a huge impact in my life. They can be great forces for change, personal change. I just can't sit back and look at what's happened to me, then sit here and watch things go differently for others. I know the power of this place, and Spec, I'm sorry, but I feel you've overstepped on this one. Your message, your beliefs are not inline with the rest of the community. It harkons back to why you are no longer a moderator....you were essentially forced out. Doesn't matter how you spin it, people know the facts. But rather than use it to beat you up with years later, we should look at it as a learning experience. You have hopefully learned from it and moved on....well...have you learned from it? The hateful message of exclusion has me wondering. You can change the direction this is going. I certainly hope you choose to do so.

DVD, with all due respect, sometimes you do come across as a child. But I love your quirks, you have kept this board from being as stale as 2 week old bread left out in the sun, and God bless ya for all the cool things you've helped bring about. Between you and me, we forced this board...and others to implement plonk. We got all sorts of changes put into place that have made tracking sock puppets and real threats easier. We've forced security changes to be made. We pushed people to their limits and when they responded, they learned things. That's taking the glass half full approach...

I'll stop by saying I hope people can grow emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually and push past these petty issues. Because when you really step back and look at the last parts of this thread and how it turned...it shows a step backwards that nobody really needs to take.
