Starting new clique
A new inner-circle clique of cooler-than-everyone-else eplayans is now forming. This is a now-or-never chance to get in on the ground floor! Be in on all the inside jokes! We'll take over every new thread and talk back and forth, ignoring what the green newbies say, other than to make fun of them for not knowing what's in and what's out - which we'll decide, of course.
Only the coolest are eligible. If you have to ask if that's you... it isn't.

Well, it's official. I've left the new inner-circle clique of cooler-than-everyone-else eplayans. It was so much better in '98. I kept on going for a while, but I could see the tapestry fraying. It's like they'll let anyone in. I suggested that they limit posters and 'unenlightened' eplayans--as well as catering to several of my other more degenerate whims, but all to no avail.
So I'm outta here.
Instead, I'm gonna form a NEW clique of anti-clique cliquers. And we won't do anything as blase as having in-jokes or catchphrases. And we certainly won't do something as obvious as leaping into threads and drifting them with our inane babble(though WE have the coolest inane babble).
Instead, WE'RE gonna smirk knowingly at our screens. And you can be sure, these will be smirks you could bounce a quarter off.
Since there's no way to type any of this, you'll just have to guess who's looking at what you're writing--with a knowing smirk.
And don't think it'll be ME, 'cos I'm done with this clique--it was better in the seventh line of this post........

Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

I wouldn't want to be in any clique that would have you as a member either

I love it when Woody Allen quotes it in Annie Hall.
Groucho often made allusions to literary works, twisting them into jokes...I've heard that this one came from The Forsyte Saga (Galsworthy). Man, the Gutenberg project rocks! Instead of having to go home and dig through bookshelves, I got it right here:

He was too old to be a Liberal, had long ceased to believe in the political doctrines of his Club, had even been known to allude to them as 'wretched stuff,' and it afforded him pleasure to continue a member in the teeth of principles so opposed to his own. He had always had a contempt for the place, having joined it many years ago when they refused to have him at the 'Hotch Potch' owing to his being 'in trade.' As if he were not as good as any of them! He naturally despised the Club that did take him. The members were a poor lot, many of them in the City --stockbrokers, solicitors, auctioneers--what not! Like most men of strong character but not too much originality, old Jolyon set small store by the class to which he belonged. Faithfully he followed their customs, social and otherwise, and secretly he thought them 'a common lot.'
