I have no witty social comments. I have social comments, just not particularly witty.

ok, here is my picture as an avatar.
Only 47 days for President Bush to press his agenda upon the world and to set his legacy upon history. President Elect Obama will then get his chance to change things. Ike had his cabinet before December 1st. We all know the 44th Commander -in-Chief will have his hands full. I hope his one hundred days are successfull. I pray our ideals of freedom and fairplay are restored...
Wow, you just picked up a bunch of extra points in my book!pinemom wrote:would that be the Race in Sacramento, Elliot?
We did the breakfast catering for one, gosh, in 1999?2000?
Funny we had all partied so hard the night before...showed up, they stuck us in tied died shirts....
No, the avatar and goofy portrait (cropped out of a team portrait) are from the Arcata-To-Ferndale race in 2004. (Humboldt County, Northern California)
But I'm delighted that you were involved in Sacramento, as that's where I first raced. The Sacramento Kinetic Sculpture Race -- officially named the River Otter Amphibious Race -- was held five years, 1999 - 2003. I was a spectator in 1999 -- eyes popping, jaw on the third shirt button, heart pounding; I instantly NEW I had found my sport. Started building, but failed to get ready for 2000. Finally entered the race in 2001, and it snowballed from there. Added Ventura in 2002, Arcata-To-Ferndale in 2003, and now I do all the races in the Western States, with several vehicles in each.
And of course, in 2007 I organized a Kinetic Sculpture Racing Theme Camp in BRC, with nine or ten Kinetic Kontraptions in constant use. Perhaps you saw us at 4:30 and Coral Reef.
One of my great sorrows is that Wondermuss Things sometimes die for no good reason.
The Sacramento KSR was a success in every respect except that it did not turn a profit for the organizer, which was the Chamber of Commerce. Seems to me, the race had great value for the community, and the Chamber might have done well to spend a few buck to continue it, to boost tourism and community spirit. Unfortunately, their Special Event Manager happened to leave shortly after the 2003 race, and that sealed it.
And unfortunately, our 2007 KSR Theme Camp turned out to be a "one year wonder", in spite of its success. Most of the Kontraption owners were "virgins" who joined me on my personal word that they "needed" to participate in Burning Man, at least once. And I dare say they all "fit in" marvellously, giving rides and even lending out their Machines for longer "test drives". However, we happened to have some very bad luck with one of our neighbors. On our request, our placer had put us in a (supposedly) quiet neighborhood, but something went wrong and we had thundering techno right across the street. This was the main reason several of our key people decided that one burn was enough. So I wound up cancelling our 2008 Theme Camp.
Sheeeeez, I go on!
Of course, I go on just as much about BM when I talk to KSR people! It's a natural cross-over, and there are tons of KSR people all around BM -- like the fire-breathing aluminum Viking ship in 2008.
Next event: 40th Anniversary Grand Championship Arcata-to-Ferndale Kinetic Sculpture Race, Memorial Weekend, 2009.
Sounds like the noise equivalent of the non-smoking area being just across the aisle from the smoking section...Elliot wrote: <snipped>

Hmm. Now that I have upgraded my computer to something merely obsolete (as opposed to hopelessly obsolete), maybe I can, eventually, get a picture of me up...

I've got a great picture of Barbie, Wannaberavin, and (this next person hasn't posted here to the best of my knowledge) Mouse on top of a platform overlooking BRC by BDC&WB. The thing is, I have no idea how to actually post it. I can email it to someone if they could help. That would put any controversy of whether or not Barbie is deserving of the name (she is) to rest.

Ok, so I'll post these of me for right now for a little bit.
Wish I had some pics of me on the playa but I never really gave much thought to do that, but there are some of me out there somewhere.
These will have to do for right now.

Me and my Girl Gia in Montreal. Totally miss her right now.

My girls in LA. B. and Felicia.

Me and B.

Nobody posts?
I bet people cruise the thread and the mouse gets stuck on Barbie.
You have to admit she is a tough act to follow.
