then, though, one must be careful whom one quotes........or admires, they may have, at some point, made said reference or suggestion.......
we do agree that calling for injury or death is abhorrent?
I feel that way, anyway.......seems you do, too.......

It looks like Fabio might have had one of those new breast implant things that are big with body builders now.
But anyway, back to the subject, here in my shop are two people who absolutely adore Ann Coulter. So I listen to their conversations about world events and it usually ends up with "You know what we need to do??? We need to drop the big one" If we had dropped the "big one" every time they had recommended that as a solution to a problem, the world would be a cinder. These are the people that I know who follow the rantings of Ann Coulter. Now, granted, these people aren't the sharpest tools in the shed, but that's her audience.
The seed, once planted, can grow into something pretty wicked.

well, yeah, and, if we listened to two French officials during WWII and how, if we just surrender, they'll be gone soon..............and, hopefully, won't hurt us.........Or some of the former East Block of the Soviet Union, who, turned their countries over to the Soviets........and ended up in Gulags......Karlene wrote:It looks like Fabio might have had one of those new breast implant things that are big with body builders now.

and, they may not be so sharp,either.........
so, you base your opinion on listening to two people? hhmmm.
Extremes are a tough place to be..........or understand.
I feel the extreme on both sides is dangerous..........
How about you?
do you accept there is an extreme left?
or, do you feel they're "not nearly as bad" as the extreme right?
Just wonderin'.........

Ok, I'll avoid the overly complicated analogies and symbolism.........Karlene wrote:Besides, just because a group of people can agree on a certain topic, that doesn't make them jackals or hyenias or anything like that. It just means a group of people agree. You're the one throwing names around.

OK, the latest bombing target is Iran, because "They're getting nukes."
Well, I ask you, we're going to nuke somebody because they might have nukes??!! Is this ludicrous? This is the kind of talk I hear from these Ann Coulter devotees. From the rumblings I've been hearing I think several countires in South America are next on the hit list. Whenever one of her books comes out it's like a couple of pre teen girls with the newest Nancy Drew novel. They take her so seriously. And these people are men...more or less.
These are not the only two people I've known who follow her. Actually, I've seen her on tv many times and the attitude is just one of such...such....anger, no solutions to any problem that lucid people could agree with, thus the "killing their leaders" bombast. And what person, much less a woman, really believes the vote should be taken away from women. That kind of statement. You know how sometimes you can just smell something bad, scary, and disturbing about a person. That's how I feel when ever I see her. So when she talkes about "killing", these two people I work with take that as a validation of their plans for killing on a much larger scale. It makes it ok to talk like that and to feel like that. Not that they especially are going to act on their violent thoughts, but all it takes one wormy mind to be pushed over the edge. The rotten apples in the barrel will surely infect the other apples around them eventually. And all you need is one apple who is really determined to carry out the act. Thus we are given people like Lee Harvey Oswald.

On some issues I'm to the left of center, and some I'm to the right. I generally identify as socially liberal, but I strongly favor individual responsibility along with individual rights. I lean towards pacifism, but I think that fighting WW2 was a moral imperative. Labels are for bottles, not people.
I don't find the extreme left to be any more reliable, informed, or more moral than the extreme right. While I can get caught up in partisan politics, I aspire to pragmatism over ideology.
And I really dislike hate speech from any quarter, be it left, right, up, down, or in some other dimension. My opposition to hate speech is not partisan.
As for people getting what they deserve, I have to disagree. Sometimes people get what they deserve, but what they deserve and what they get are only mildly correlated. Cancer, in particular, appears to strike both the deserving and the undeserving without much discrimination.

egad........Karlene wrote:And yes, there is an extreme left. But they're not talking about killing people. They're talking about running around a field barefoot, picking daisies, singing shambala, and returning to nature. Just as ideological, but not nearly as dangerous.
is that the only picture you have of extreme left?...........

yes, I think aggressive action against a sovereign nation is not a good choice...........
but, is there a line where our interests or safety would dictate we be preemptive?
I'd say, there is a case for that.
the question is: who draws that line, and, makes those decisions?
were you this upset when we were bombing in Bosnia, etc?...........
no moral imperative there, either.........
It seems, we actually agree on principal........
but, I'm just seeing that you want to blame one side for all the ills that exist, and, leave the other blameless.........
I think the blame goes everywhere............both sides have been complicit, and, taken part, in this, from decision making to funding........It could not have gone on this long unless it was funded by congress..........and, who runs congress?
At times, both sides have had majorities, but, not super majorities......so....they both have to cooperate to make or sustain this whole exercise.......
Have you seen anyone swoon over a new Michael Moore film?...........
and, I wonder about the slur you make above:
"and, these people are men....more or less".........
Huh? what did you mean by that?.........
you freely cast aspersions, but, it seems you have no pedestal to stand and judge from........
Dr. Placebo put it well:
"I don't find the extreme left to be any more reliable, informed, or more moral than the extreme right. While I can get caught up in partisan politics, I aspire to pragmatism over ideology. "
he and I differ on a lot, but, I think this is a point he is spot on with........
Thanks Doc.
although, Doc, I might ask, in reference to your last paragraph, who does, then, deserve cancer?.........or, did I read that wrong........?
so, Karlene, I'll stand beside you (if you'd allow), and revile the use of unnecessary, or, indiscriminate violence, and, wishing same on individuals or nations.
I will also blame both sides for same.........
and, hope, at some point, cooler heads will prevail........

I have no pedestal to judge from? I'm a person here sharing this planet with billions of other people. Things people do and say affect me and mine on a dialy basis. My opinion is as valid as yours. You come from no better pedestal than I do. But we aren't on the tube shooting our mouths off to a lot of people out there who believe what ever comes over the airwaves is legitimate. As I said earlier, with free speech comes responsibility. I think the old yelling fire in a crowded theatre thing applies here. As for the left, there are extremeists over there too. I don't even think it necessarily has to do with one's political beliefs. I think there are some people with tendencies toward violent thought and action that fall down on either side of the scale and the politics or issues don't really mean anything to them. They've just found a way to work within a system and belch their billious gas all over everyone. There are some very angry people out there and they find ways to let us know about it. Some shoot up the post office, some beat their wives and children, some go on television and talk about killing leaders of of ther countries, like it is OUR job to make the world look like us no matter what it takes. And some people believe these things and feel validated because someone on tv said it. And these are dangerous people.

Whether anyone truly deserves cancer can be debated, although deliberately causing cancer for someone else would have to rank pretty high as grounds for deserving cancer.
On this matter I defer to the insight of Tolkien's Gandalf:
On this matter I defer to the insight of Tolkien's Gandalf:
Many that live deserve death. And some die that deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then be not too eager to deal out death in the name of justice, fearing for your own safety. Even the wise cannot see all ends.

hey now, watch that viking stuff..........Karlene wrote:Nobody deserves cancer, it is the ugliest thing.
Hey, but on a lighter note, do you think a week at the Burn might calm down her inner viking???
you may note, that, I did not call you a jackal........I asked if you are part of the pack.........
as below:
..........I was just wondering if you're part of the pack of jackals that will see someone being swarmed on and join in, or, are (you) more even handed, and, open minded. Willing to consider all views, and, points of view. ..............
(I added "you" in parenthesis above, for clarity)
again, I'm not disagreeing about war, violence, whatever. I'm just making the point it's not a politically specific issue.....not gender specific, nothing. It's everywhere. That said, I think it should be painted with a wider brush, when casting aspersions at a particular group.
Individuals, sure, I understand that one...........
Did I use the wrong adjective ( "upset") in coloring your attitude below, or, seeming tone?
......."OK, the latest bombing target is Iran, because "They're getting nukes."

and how it might relate to the bombings, etc, in the Balkan states?...........
I mean no slander there, it just reads like your upset in the above quote.
Just some thoughts..........

I don't think there's anything in that observation that suggests I'm upset. It's an honest appraisal of personalities around me. I say they are "more or less" men because they don't show their families attention or respect. Remember what Vito Corleone said ti Michael ..."because a man who doesn't spend time with his family is not a man"
And who is going to argue with Vito????
And who is going to argue with Vito????
You keep equating the negative energy toward Ann Coulter to hating people who have a different opinion than you. IT'S NOT THE SAME THING!!!!ygmir wrote:and rightly so......

Don't say they don't exist.......
maybe even the title of a recent thread right here on eplaya.....?
The reason she is different is because she is advocating hatred of and intolerance of other people. I'm not slamming her because she has different views than me. I'm slamming her because if she had her way, people like me and lots of others would not exist.
She wants to take away other people's rights to exist. THAT IS NOT THE SAME AS HAVING A DIFFERENT OPINION.
Show me the liberal pundit or even a radical leftist who does THAT please.
Exactly, it has nothing to do with the fact that her opinions are different than mine. We all have different opinions. And it's not even that I think she is in a position to wreak havoc on anyone. But the things she says can trigger other, less responsible, less stable people to violence
She represents a slice of Americana that is very ugly, very volatile, angry as all hell and wanting somebody to pay for what ever their particular gripe is.
Words matter!!!!!!!!

I've tried to make sure I'm referencing "left and, right" not Coulter, specifically, and, my statements have not been to defend her, they've been aimed at making sure all promoters are included...........

Is not her view, then, different than yours? and, is that not the reason for your dislike?
As abhorrent as that idea is (killing people you disagree with), still, it's that her ideas are different than yours......is it not?
She wants to take away other people's rights to exist. THAT IS NOT THE SAME AS HAVING A DIFFERENT OPINION.
I beg to differ: it is her opinion, if true.......
again, not defending it in substance, just sayin'.......
Show me the liberal pundit or even a radical leftist who does THAT please.
If I had time to search quotes from left/liberal pundits, etc, that called for someone or some group to be hurt, killed, or otherwise attacked, would it matter? I bet not. It would not change your mind one bit, me thinks......I would imagine there are plenty of quotes from leftists out there calling for mayhem of some sort to be employed against a person or group.......even my reference to a thread on eplaya is as such.
Maybe someone with time and skill can come up with said quotes.
but, I'd be careful of making a statement that no leftist person says inflammatory or hateful things, or, promotes violence........I'm sure someone has.....
again, ad nauseum, I say that I don't condone hateful speech. I just say, that, it should be rejected by and on both sides.........because both do it.........I have just pointed out that both do it, and, should be equally called on it.........
IMHO.........

I also agree words matter, especially from "celebrities"........
there are many "ugly" slices of Americana, she may represent one......
I just think they should all be called on it and what it may cause.....
I'd also submit, in some circumstances, what one person calls "ugly slice of Americana" may not be at all that to another.......
doesn't make any of it right, but, it does illustrate we have a huge nation, with diverse viewpoints, and, may never all see things the same way.......
