Other Elemental Ceremonies

Post by jackmaker » Wed Dec 03, 2008 10:19 pm

I have this idea of holding ceremonies based on the classical elements of alchemy, each at different specific locations around the world. The idea partly came to me in a dream. I'm trying to drum-up a film crew and anyone else mad enough to make the trek. I thought it was supposed to happen this year, but it looks like it'll be next year instead. Read about what I have come up with so far here:

Thanks!

from the website...
“What you are about to read is the groundwork for an evolution in broadcast and feature info-tainment. Wow. Simon, thanks for being the one to actually jump over to that guy's blog. The bit you have quoted is just the tip of the iceberg. That is some fascinating stuff.

Someone ran two locomotives together at full speed for a show once.
Makes burning man look like remedial eccentricity.
Very lively.

I have seen that train head-on footage and it is pretty awesome. Those things were not designed to be destroyed, so the results seem quite different.

From the quote Simon pulled over it almost sounded like a real project. Get over there and start reading to see the true delusion.

I am talking about a live show with spectators.
I don't think there is any film but there are photos after the fact.
I think most photographers were killed and their cameras destroyed.
They misjudged the way the engines would behave and wildly underestimated the power involved.
Many people were killed, from 150 to hundreds.
No one knows how many injuries.

Hard to top.

Gyre, OK, I've seen pics then.

They were way more scary than Fishy's nifty video. (She clearly has better search skills than me.)

Actually, I keep a family of gnomes chained int he basement searching for me and going through youtube videos for maximum hilarity.

That's not actually very funny when you consider the news. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.c ... 14INTI.DTL I suppose I"m letting out tension and horror by going there.

I have some pictures on video but I can't find any online.
They expected the locomotives to telescope, but they were too strong for that.
They must have had equivalent power when they collided at full speed.
They went up in the air and exploded.
I would not be surprised if they locked all the safety valves and opened everything up ahead of time.
Pieces of the boilers were found some distance from the main site.
The barely distinguishable frames were the only thing left of the steam locomotives.
So the tradition of radical forms of entertainment is not new.

I found the docko on history or science channel on a show about trains.

Ugly Dougly, I'm running AM47 by anyone who will bother to read it. I'm sick and I'm broke and of the handful of people who beleived in me, one has died suddenly and another had a breakdown. So I'm basically floating out here alone offering strangers a chance to get in on something that might just be really special... a fabulous disaster even. But all I find are cynical quips and misunderstanding. I don't particularly like people to begin with and I've lost the friends I had hoped would help me with public relations. All I'm asking is for folks to have a look and if you don't like it, fine, maybe you know someone or will come across someone who might be able to help me. And I thought that since Burning Man is intrinsic to my idea, someone hear might enjoy reading it. Isn't this what networking is all about??

Yes, this is definitely an appropriate place to share your idea.

Maybe taking an interest in us before you expect us to take an interest in you would be a better first step. It's amazing how many people just 'expect' perfect strangers, and on the Internet no less, to be totally sympathetic and interested in their plights and projects.

Not to mention, most on this forum have disparate interests held together by a common bond cemented by playa dust. Part of that 'bonding' process is being able to take some ribbing and dish it back, not wine and give lectures because nobody here is immediately sympathetic to your needs, we all have needs of our own.

People are always more interested in helping friends, eplaya is no exception. Take some time and make some friends.

as The Amazing Race meets Nova and Myth Busters.
I love dockos, but you lost me with the amazing race reference.
Nothing horrifies me more than those fantasy soap operas billed as "reality" shows.
Is the amazing race even a race?
I know it isn't amazing, although I am amazed anyone watches it.
The whole 'It doesn't have to be good, just cheap to make.' syndrome is very disturbing.

And you haven't told us enough for me to have any idea what you mean by alchemy.
If you're going to refine urine into phosphorus and burn things, I get that.
Alchemy covers a lot of ground.
Galen was practicing neurosurgery and then it seems like people quit trying.

So are we talking about rituals or when alchemy and science were part of the same thing?
And most importantly, are you going to be setting fire to something?
