And Ygmir has a very valid point--I' didn't see the people on this board who lean right start cheering when Ted Kennedy turn out to have cancer--but Tony Snow didn't get the same treatment from those who tilt leftward.

AndKarlene, if you can't find the thousands, perhaps millions, of statements that routinely outdo ANYTHING Deadhead Annie says that are made by people on the left--quite often people with a helluvalot of power then you're not just running with that pack of jackals--you're doing it blindly.

It's kind of hard to articulate, but what you're getting at is this: people have a right to their opinion, even if it is different than yours, or even if it's offensive.

Yes, that's true, but I don't believe that that means that that extends to all cases. IE: "I believe all liberals should be shot and that gays should be sent to re education camps." Some people like Ann Coulter, and neo-Nazis believe this.

Saying "people have a right to their opinion" sounds nice, but it is also a belief, not a law. We "believe" that it is acceptable (and legal) for people to have a different opinion or ideology than other people.

What if their opinion is something that is illegal, and violates the constitution, not to mention many different kinds of moral, religious, philosophical and ethical standards???

Do they have a right to it then? Well, it's not really a "right" to begin with. No one can control or even know what another person's thoughts are. So the question is not if someone is allowed to think anything or have a certain opinion, get it? It's your acts that can be controled, or punished or subject to laws.

And that is the arena we are talking about: she has the ability (NOT THE RIGHT) to think anything she wants. She does have the RIGHT to publish a book advocating for taking away other people's rights, or advocating hating entire groups of people.

I DO think she has a RIGHT do that - that's what the 1st amendment is about, (IMHO the greatest thing about the USA). However, you are incorrect in saying that the only difference between me (or liberals) and her, is a difference of opinion:

SHE DOES NOT THINK THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE A RIGHT TO THEIR OPINIONS, IDEOLOGIES OR EVEN THEIR LIVES OR LIFESTYLES - SHE ACTIVELY WORKS TO TAKE THEM AWAY.

I DO THINK THAT SHE HAS THE RIGHT TO EXIST, AND EVEN PUBLISH BOOKS FULL OF HATE (EVEN THOUGH I THINK SHE'S A LIAR, HYPOCRITE, HATE MONGER, AND STUPID).

THAT IS NOT THE SAME THING, SO PLEASE STOP TRYING TO EQUATE HER DIFFERENCE OF OPINION WITH MINE. IT'S NOT THE SAME THING.

Ted Kennedy is not the liberal version of Ann Coulter. Ann Coulter is not the conservative version of Tedd Kennedy.

The conservative version of Ted Kennedy would be John McCain, GET IT??

Tony Snow is not Ann Coulter. He was a conservative, and he did a lot of lying for the Bush administration, which in my opinion, was a disservice to the country, the world, and a crime. But he was not an evil person, and did not advocate hating other people, or advocate taking away the rights of entire groups of people. NOT THE SAME!!!!

It's really simplistic, and by the way, totally false, to say one of these people is on the right, one is on the left, so therefore, they are totally equal, it's just a difference of opinion.

THEY'RE NOT THE SAME. They have some things in common: they're both religious zealots, and they want the rest of the world to believe what they believe, and want to deny the rights of other groups. But the christian fundamentalists are not out killing people. GET THE DIFFERENCE!?!?!?

The equivalent would be the KKK or neo nazis or something like that.

Just because Ted Kennedy is on the left, and Ann Coulter is on the right, DOES NOT mean that if you take away the left/right difference, they are basically the same.

I don't think we disagree on what's ok, and not.

it seems I'm trying to make a point, that, not matter how abhorrent peoples thoughts are to you, they still have the right to think them.
Of course it is a "right" to think whatever you want........I've yet to see the "thought police"...........and don't think they should exist.
I also see that our fist amendment says it's ok to voice those thoughts.........
