joel, are you actually supporting the man? hell, even barney frank said that when obama said that 'there is only one president at a time' that he was overstating the situation.joel the ornery wrote:your boorish attitude to the sitting president won't be forgotten anytime soon.

what i am saying is... the manner in which this presidency has been treated via dissension is deplorable, and it simply stank for the past eight years.jkisha wrote:joel, are you actually supporting the man? hell, even barney frank said that when obama said that 'there is only one president at a time' that he was overstating the situation.joel the ornery wrote:your boorish attitude to the sitting president won't be forgotten anytime soon.

so, don't get all high and mighty when the dissension comes from the right for the next four years.
all bets are off on being polite. you want polite, re-read your comments about the current administation.... it seems to me, anything is fair game after what has been said by the left.

slimly won one, stole the other. there really won't be much to criticize with the new administration--except by rush limbaugh and his followers--those that don't think and want creationism taught in schools.joel the ornery wrote:last time i checked, that means my candidate won two elections.
the next election is 2010... probably will be viewed as referendum on obama's first two years... we'll see where we are then, won't we?

prove it, prove it in congress, in a court of law... none of this rank court of public opinion.
unitl then, "stole the other" is wishful thinking... and oh so, the election before the last election.
the claims weren't valid then, and ever so moot now.

i don't even think any polls have shown that a majority of people believe that bush stole the 2000 election... and, i suspect that if gore had ended up in the white house, far more people would have claimed that gore stole it.
in any case it is STUPID to keep harping about it ... it is ancient history ...

Bush was shown on video over and over ducking the shoes thrown by an Iraqi reporter during a Baghdad news conference.
Jay Leno wanted to know where the Secret Service was. He asked, shouldn't they have "at least jumped in front of the second shoe?"
David Letterman was impressed by the president's quick reactions.
Letterman said Bush "hasn't dodged anything like that since, well, the Vietnam War."
Conan O'Brien said that the shoe-thrower is being hailed as a hero by some in Iraq.
O'Brien said that when the man dies, "he'll be greeted in heaven by 72 podiatrists."

To me, the election of Obama is like our country raising out of the dark ages, where finally science trumps theology and knowledge and wisdom trumps dogma.
The last eight years have been an embarrassment to me and to our country as a whole.
Finally we will earn back our respect in the eyes of the world by leading by example.

a few points, and/or, questions:
I accept, without comment, that you may have been embarrassed by the current administration. But, don't you think it a stretch to speak for everyone else?.....when you say our country as a whole, you insinuate everyone agrees with you, or, that we should......(I know you'd like that. hahaha).
so, again without comment regarding agreement, I'd ask you not to put me in the same bag..........
I also wonder, how will you handle it when ( and, we all know it'll happen)
your messiah makes a mistake, or, does something you think he shouldn't...........will you hold up under the withering attacks you certainly have elicited, by example? Will you pass it off flippantly, unlike what you'd accept from others here regarding the current admin.?
Will you rationalize and excuse such actions, blaming almost anyone else?
you are setting BHO up to such a high standard, that, you seem painting yourself into a corner when he show's he's human.........already, he's stepping outside promises and ideals he laid out in the campaign........
and, to say the world will respect "us" more by leading by example.....seems quite a prognostication on your part. Certainly, folks hope that's true, but, what happens if he cruise missiles another aspirin factory?..........or, goes back into the Balkans.......
how will you defend that sort of thing......?
Understand:
As I have stated,
I hope he does well.
I wish him success.
We need him to be the best president ever, and, I hope he is..........
But:
I am cynical about all these possibilities, and, outcomes.........and abilities, if not intentions......
I won't re-hash why.
I'm just seein' you, and others, painting this picture of a savior, without flaws, omnipotent in his wisdom and deeds...........
I also see you pick apart anyone outside "his" sphere, (and therefore, seemingly, yours) of opinion.
Seems, if he is human and makes mistakes and bad choices, it'll be crow omlettes, sandwiches, and quiche, for you...........
As I said, I hope not. but............

second, I don't see Obama veering very far from where I expected him to go--he's an intelligent guy and a pragmatist, and I sort of felt I knew what he was saying to win the votes and what he actually would do when he was elected.
third, I've watched every appointment he's made to his cabinet and have been impressed with each and every choice. They are all educated intellectuals for the most part--even a Nobel Laureate. I almost cried.
fourth, I live in a city that is multi-cultural to say the least, and so what I think my feelings about what the world feels about Obama is coming more from my conversations with 'non-Americans' living or visiting here rather than any prognostication.
fifth, Obama has all of the traits and supports all of the principles that I support (as far as I can tell, so far) and I feel that his decisions will be well reasoned. this is feeling is fortified by the people he is choosing to advise him.
sixth, I don't care if anyone agrees with me, I had to put up with Bush for the last eight years, I'm going to enjoy the ride for the next eight.
seventh, I don't expect Obama to be perfect or to do everything that I would prefer that he might do. But those things that he might do that I might not agree with, I would be willing to bet I can put up with as I believe he will do whatever he does for the good of the country; and we all have to make sacrifices sometimes.
eighth, I think that his biggest threat/detractors will come from the far left; and I think he will have a large number of moderate republicans working with him.
ninth, I really can't imagine him making mistakes anywhere near the magnitude of his predecessor.
tenth, I bet (don't know, but have a feeling) that he won't take your guns away.
eleventh, I don't know why I numbered this list like I have any specific reasons that need enumeration; The guy is bright, well educated, measured in his response, is not afraid to hear opposing opinions, puts science ahead of ... I could go on and on; so I'll just end here.
Thanks for reading!

thanks JK, nice response,
I appreciate it.
I do have one misgiving:
when you say you could tell what he was just saying to get votes..........
dang,
for me, that's saying it's ok to lie, as long as you win........dang, that just sits wrong with me...........
dang again.....
I understand where you come from on that, and, think I understand that, IYO, winning for him was more important than anything else..............
in your situation, I may even do the same thing.
It's just sad for me that things are what they are........
I'm moving to the hills, getting some lederhosen, wool pants, and alpen horn, shorts with suspenders, and herding goats like grandpa on Hiedi............
