i wanna go early and help set stuff up and acclimate and get to know the map

win win

now with these skills

i can do near everything

mostly electronics/audio/staging/carpentry

anyone know of a directions in which my skills equated to early arrival and no offense but entrance pay in exchange for contributions?

im certain anything i contribute will out value the cost of entrance, just figure

dont get me wrong, i can easily wait till it opens and roll in paying as an island, just want more than that

some camp needs a stage hand kinda guy?

to some extent im in the same boat (want to be a part of setting up an awesome camp). however, were you asking to sell your services for a ticket?

Id suggest trying to do everything you can to make it to your local meetngs and meet the people who are in your area and looking for assistance.

on that note, your profile doesnt include your location. where you at?

Welcome! There are two main ways I know of to get a free ticket - one is to find a big (likely funded) art piece and help them prep it offsite and/or assemble it on playa. The other is to work for a BM department such as the DPW. In both cases you'll need some networking and luck to get on a crew - there's lots of people who want to get in early and free. There are also a fair number of people who say they want to work their ass off on a project but flake out, so as a first timer you'll be looked at with suspicion.

I would say don't focus on the ticket too much - transportation and food can be worth more and some BMORG jobs will come with food but not necessarily a free ticket before you've proven yourself. Finding the right people and project is also critical. Perks aren't worth spending a month with people you can't stand.

There's no such thing as acclimation. You're thrown right into the frying pan. It's only a question of whether you'd rather adjust while you're working your ass off 14 hours a day or while you're attempting to party 14 hours a day. The map is just a grid.

Keep an eye out here and on craigslist for calls for volunteers, and attend the volunteer recruitment fair thing in the Spring if you're able. There won't be a ton of action over the Winter so stay patient and get your own ducks in a row so you're ready to jump in when you find something.

you know better sock wearer, but if its legit - at least he is looking months early. Way better than the sluts that promise the world a week before BM starts looking for a free ticket.

DPW is the largest volunteer group followed by ESD. you need to network and start making contacts. go to Myspace, and Tribe - make contacts and become part of the community. Plenty of time left.

There are also lots of companies providing services on playa, they are always looking for BM oriented people that are responsible as temporary hires.

I wasnt comaring the two offers, only pointing out the inevitable offers of ass for BM passage that come, as well as the beggers.

Pierro is on the right track. He (or she) has something to offer, and is 9 months early I have no doubt that they will be picked up if they only get ahold of the right person at the right time.

She was digging herself deeper and deeper ... (nevermind). I usually won't lock a thread, but she was getting really weird in the PMs to me. The amusement factor was diminishing faster than the humor streak was increasing, at least from my viewpoint.
