why do women go to burning man?
We are researching stories about why women want to attend burning man, and what they have learned there about themselves and others.

why do women go to burning man?
wow, we, as in my friend and I. We are not looking at all from a superficiall. I've been a long time BM participant. It's not about looking at tits - how freaking shallow is that? But from a more psychological way. What drives a women to get involved? What do they look for out on the playa? What do they find from the experience - both good and bad?

also, if this a dumb question, why did you choose to answer?

I go for the art, fire, work, play, silence, friends, inspiration, sky, catharsis, dust and smiles. These things are always in my life - but the concentration of intention in BRC is a huge, yearly creative jolt.
I also like the freedom to go topless, though I don't exhibit myself in yahoo/camera zones - it's not about being admired, it's about not having to wear a shirt when it's hot! Gender equality, anyone?

Maybe you should have used all this in the first post, instead of just jumping out with it.spiney wrote:wow, we, as in my friend and I. We are not looking at all from a superficiall. I'll second you gaminwench, but with one exception. I can go topless anytime and not be stared at dammit! I like it because I can go bottomless for the same reasons.gaminwench wrote:I go for the art, fire, work, play, silence, friends, inspiration, sky, catharsis, dust and smiles. Spiney, why would there be different reasons for women going, as you seem to imply in your posting, then for men going?
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

Some people identify themselves very strongly with ineluctable characteristics like gender. Why, I dont know. The OP sounds like one of those persons who defines herself to a large degree by her gender. Otherwise, its safe to assume that women go to BM for the same reasons men go: art, adventure, creativity, freedom of expression, community, etc.

While my son was attending a collegiate level acting program, he was told by one of the female instructors that Burning Man was basically a men's event. I take exception - as I am the one in my family that does 90% of the work. That's not because I am female, but because I am the most involved all year.
I too wonder about why you choose to differentiate between genders with this question.

AND if Sale Man is running around bottomless.. I'll stare at him too..
I like the art and other stuff too.. blah blah blah.. but mostly the BOOBIES !!

Not many nude beaches here in Michigan, at least that I know of, especially this time of year. Sailing on Erie is one way to enjoy a little fresh air, Burning Man is another.

A real answer
I don't think there is really one reason that women go to the burn. Boijoy goes for the boobies, brcprincess goes to be her real self. I go to let go of all the masks I build up over the year. To shed who I'm supposed to be and embrace who i want to be. I also go to live in the most extreme conditions I've ever been in (I unfortunately live in Ohio(the cold can die)). I go to meet new people. I go to get some rare uninterupted time with my boyfriend. I go to get out of the monotony of my daily life for two weeks and embrace the unexpected and revel in the freedom of no obligations. For one week, I don't have to show up to work, I don't have to assure my parent's that I'm ok, I don't have to explain my actions to onlookers.
I also go with hopes of expanding my narrowminded thoughts and accepting new ideas.
That is as honest as I can be. Hope that helps, even if none of the other posts do.

Could you rephrase that? I don't think you understand your question.
