We're going to have a baby!

Post by pelste » Sat Jan 03, 2009 5:59 pm

Here's the experience we want to share with all of you.

My boyfriend and I attended BM for the first time in 2008. When we got to the temple, we decided to burn my box of contraceptive pills and wrote on the wall: we're going to have a baby. It was a very happy moment for us. The temple seemed to be the right place to put such a message of hope and life.

Here we are, three months later and I am pregnant. This special moment is forever in our memory. Hope to see you again on the playa, but not in 2009 'cause our baby will only be a few weeks old!

Wow, that's great news. They say that people find whatever they are looking for at Burning Man and it really sounds like that's true for you both. I hope your new baby has that special glitter in their eyes that only burners have.
I also hope you are not planning on naming the baby either Larry or Marion.
As my dear sweet old mother used to tell me, I can't bring the baby to
Burning Man because she will get dusty!
Again, congrats and best wishes! :D

It sounds like the Captain is excited for you!

There are lots of marriages that take place on the playa and if you work hard, you may be able to find a midwife camp to help in the delivery. Just think, when your child is asked in the future what city they were born in, they may be able to answer "Black Rock City Nevada".

Though I agree with you on El Capitan's "excitement" (tequila?) and the hope for a playa wedding (were she my daughter), it sounds like they won't be going because of the age of the baby.

But I'd have to say I think a playa birth, though it may sound like some sorta romantic, would be anything but sane unless it were an emergency.

Hey, great, plan a playa baby birth. Oh, and get good and hopped up on E first. It'll be more beautiful that way.

Damn Toolmaker, those are some effed up looking babies!

A delivery on the playa?! Yeah, that would really be the wrong place to do that, but then again, the bragging rights to say that you were borne at Burning Man, now that would be priceless.

Steph and Ben, yeah, 3 months-ish might be a little soon for the baby, but by 2010, bring him or her to kidsville, they'll have plenty of company.

We have certain "rules" in EMS. One of them is, "If you drop the baby, pick it up"
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

if you went to burning man looking to get knocked up, why did'nt you just go sit Bare Assed in the Spooge Dome at Root Society?

Confusion

Post by pelste » Sun Jan 04, 2009 2:54 pm

Just as an added note, we actually got married on May 17, 2008 in Montreal...
(Us french speaking people continue to call our husband "boyfriend" after marriage! Sorry for the confusion)

The baby was planned, but the ritual at the temple was not. This is what made the moment special. We are surprised I got pregnant so fast!

Thanks for the encouragements, and we'll pass our turn for the delevery on the playa!

With that I'll retract what I said. You're not a shit-for-brains moron! Putting your life together first, THEN having babies is how it should be!

The country is overrun with young baby-craving idiots who are in a big hurry to crank out carbon copies without properly setting themselves up for it.
But then, future DPW volunteers need to come from somewhere...

Do you have a due date for the new little burner person? It's not clear if the little critter was conceived during BM '08.

Congratulations! That's a really special story. Best of luck with your pregnancy (and don't listen to the jackasses looking for scandal involving a Playa delivery).

You retract you're statement just because they're married? That does not mean anything different other than they have a legal contract of personal possession or ownership of each other.

How about owning a home, life insurance and an official playa boat with floatation devices.

And shit for brains children are useless in Canada other than here in the states where they are needed to fight Wars started by Morons in office.

Congrats on the pregnancy! Find yourself a good Midwife and birth Doula. And do yourself a favour, read Penny Simkin's "Birthing from within" and Cloe Fischer's book on breastfeeding called "Best feeding" My son will be turning 7 this year at the burn, very exciting indeed. I guess I'm shit for brains too, because his dad is only my boyfriend.....of 15 years that is.

I consider those statements to be utter horseshit. Marraige is many things, some good, some bad, never simple.

I am so fucking glad I have the piece of paper. Of course I'd have traded it for having him, but since i can't have it, that piece of paper did wonders for me.

Hey Hey Hey We0ne! There will be none of that "shit for brains" talk in Kidsville :? AZ is just talking potty talk, and we may just have to take the watergun fight to his camp  Now turn that Canadian flag upright the way it's sposed to be and don't let no potty talk get you down. Camp Folly's got ur back.

Congratulations! You have so much joy to come from that little one. Especially since she is so closly tied to the Burn. As a father of four plus 3 step children and about 11 grandchildren, I can tell you first hand you have given yourselves a wonderful lifelong gift. Treasure it!
