Good morning Vietnam!

Post by Sail Man » Thu Jan 15, 2009 4:33 pm

This is a question directed primarily at the Nam vets in the audience. When I was stationed in the Far East in the late 70's I made a copy of a tape a friend had, who taped it from a friend, etc etc etc. It's allegedly a recording of Radio 69 Saigon, with a dj by the name of Air Force SSgt Dave Rabbit. Obviously the quality of the tape isn't the greatest, certainly not Hidef dig. but it is listenable, the music is of the era, and the description of the official Dave Rabbit t-shirt makes me LMAO. What is your spin on this? I'd be happy to burn it to disc and send anybody a copy that wants to check it out. Lately I've been digitizing my tape collection and ran across it again.
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

Except for the movie, I never heard (or even heard of) the radio show. Actually, I don't remember listening to any radio the entire time I was in Vietnam. I'm thinking it is because we might not have had radio in the northern area where I was stationed. Or maybe my memory is just failing me.

Yeah, the movie made me wonder if there was any legitimacy to the recording I have. Good music is played, there's a report of some bad "H" being sold at such and such place, stuff like that. I can imagine that if you were in the bush you weren't carrying much in the way of a radio, maybe if you were at a firebase. Probably if you were a REMF. And obviously, if you were in the northern country, you sure as hell weren't a rear echelon mofo  If nothing else, I do most def. need to digitize it, to preserve it. Hmmm, nows as good as time as any.... :D

That sounds like a potential art project to me!

I'm not sure I understand AntiM. An art project in what context? Based on the tape, songs with, or LMAO, the official Dave Rabbit t-shirt?

"There is a large white rabbit on the front of the t-shirt. The rabbit is naked. The rabbit's dick is completely hard. The rabbit is holding a sign, the sign says fuck it, before it fucks you If you'd like a t-shirt..."

I burned the tape onto my puter last night. The beer was tasting good, stayed up till 0300

I used Audacity. I'm not a real good "mixer" etc for cleaning up recordings, I would like to find a way to do just that with the recording. If anybody out there is good at doing that sort of thing let me know and I can burn a disc and send it to you.

I googled "fuck it before it fucks you" and Dave Rabbit came up. He's got a myspace page a youtube page and some other web sites too. I think he's still broadcasting via the internet.

I was in country '68. don't recall the radio, but I was recording with my reel to reel, that also had an 8 track slot.

So it is real :D I always wondered about it. My cassette's have been boxed up, part of the trying to downsize thing. I've been slowly digitizing my tapes and burning them on to cd's/mp3's and ran across the tape. We'd spend alot of time overseas borrowing buds records and taping them. A nice stereo was often the first purchase. The second purchase usually involved Whisper Alley

Dave Rabbit is on ATS (abovetopsecret.com) using his name as I spelled it.
