Holy shit, girl!

What you must go through to even get out of the house and get to where you need to go to be a critical care flight nurse is waaaaay beyond me.

You must love it up there in the Yukon is all I gotta say.

Maybe one of those special daylight lamps would help during the dark days??

HAMMOND, Ind. – In a scene straight out of the movie "A Christmas Story," a 10-year-old Indiana boy got his tongue stuck to a metal light pole.

Hammond police say the unidentified fourth-grader was able to tell them that a friend dared him to lick the pole Wednesday night. Temperatures in the Chicago suburb were around 10 degrees at the time.

By the time an ambulance arrived, the boy was able to yank his tongue off the frozen pole.

Police say ambulance personnel explained to the boy's mother how to care for his bleeding tongue.

The 1983 movie is set in a fictional city based on Hammond, the hometown of author Jean Shepherd.

So was this a double dog dare?

Some research indicates brightness is more important than color for mood effects.
Personally I am very sensitive to light color.
I use daylight or preferably 7500K Philips Colortone bulbs.
Full spectrum bulbs are worth the very low price these days.
$3 for bulbs that once cost $40.
Unless you buy photo or print rated bulbs, they are very cheap in common sizes like 48".
Painting walls bright white improves lighting a lot too.

Nasa research indicates photos with deep perspective have the same effect as windows on emotions.

On the dumb side, a water board got robbed AGAIN by someone thinking it was a bank.
The building was a bank many years ago and now grass grows in the drive through and of course, it has a SIGN!

I saw a mobile bank get broken into once.
(They don't leave money in mobile banks, as they are in a mobile home.
First they tried to shoot out the bulletproof glass with a shotgun.
Many things won't go through that glass, but the least likely is a shotgun.
So they broke through the door and stole the safe.
Banks don't put money in safes, unless they have the big walk in construction.
Money goes in money chests, small boxes that are 95% steel with a small pocket in the middle.
But of course, no money in that either in this case.

Then they dragged the safe behind the car they were in.

The sheriff was able to follow the drag marks on the street from his car.

Federal charges applied and there was never any money anyway.

There's the light show:

And if your toes are freezing off, hey don't they have bonfires out there? Always made more sense in the winter, than in the desert in the summer...

Absorutely right , cold warer , not warm warer.

I don't know why there is a difference but I suppose
it has something to do with hot water freezing up again faster than cold water.

I don't know why that reminded me of the old joke about the guy taking a piss out in the woods or desert somewhere and a rattle snake bit him on the dick. The guy came running up to his buddy and asked him to get the poison out or he was going to die. After explaining to his buddy that he had to suck the poison out, his friend looked him in the eye and said, sorry, looks like you're going to die. (or something like that)

Can you guys verify that about cool water?
As long as water is not too hot for the person, why would it matter?
Is it a consideration of getting there too late to prevent frostbite?

And hot water doesn't freeze faster than cold.
Only cold water can freeze.
It is a linear process.

Come on, you are just trying to jerk our chains.

Everyone knows that hot water freezes faster than cold water, and cold water comes to a boil faster than warm water.

Its called conduction, I think........

if it is -20 out and you threw warm water on someones toungue, sure the tongue might come loose , but chances are you will replace it with frozen lips.........

Things you can do when it's -40 degrees outside... well, first of all, you could stay inside and look on the web for a job located at least 1000 miles south of there!

Shit, it's only about one degree above freezing here right now and after thinking about 40 below, I guess it's pretty warm here!

Indeed, I should say that I am very grateful that I get to enjoy the Northern lights at their best. I usually am ok in the winter here, but for some reason this year, I'm having a harder time handling it. Part of it is not owning a car. I certainly can afford it but, choose to go sans car for environmental reasons. I should stop complaining, life is good.

Funny you should mention that....when it gets ridiculous out, I go on the web and check out all the tropical places I could be practicing nursing, drink lots of wine and debate whether or not actually touching the wood stove is a reasonable idea or just the psychoses taking over.

I actually just bought a few of those bulbs, they give off really nice light. Paid $28 per bulb though.
