Wind Farm Off Cape Cod Clears Hurdle

BOSTON — A federal agency said Friday that the nation’s first offshore wind farm, proposed for the waters off Cape Cod, posed no serious environmental threat, bringing it a major step closer to fruition.
Green Inc.: Layoffs in the Wind Industry (January 16, 2009) Homeowners and boaters on the Cape, including Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Democrat of Massachusetts, have fought the project for eight years, saying it would hurt wildlife, fishing and tourism and spoil the beauty of Nantucket Sound.

Opponents have sued to stop the project, known as Cape Wind, and more challenges are certain, keeping the path to construction bumpy despite what supporters on Friday called a crucial victory.

The Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound, a group formed to fight the project, suggested that the Bush administration had unscrupulously rushed to approve it before President-elect Barack Obama took office next week.

Bomb attack targets German Embassy in Kabul

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A bomb attack has hit the German Embassy in Kabul and the embassy has caught fire after the explosion. At least four U.S. troops have been wounded.

An Associated Press reporter at the scene says several vehicles have been destroyed in the blast. Emergency vehicles raced to the embassy and firefighters are attempting to extinguish the flames.

Philipp Wendel, press officer for the German Embassy, says he cannot give any details. "Unfortunately we have a tight security situation right now. I can't give you any information."

The German Embassy sits across the street from a U.S. base in Kabul. U.S. spokesman Lt. Col. Chris Kubik says four U.S. service members have suffered shrapnel wounds from the blast.

GAZA (Reuters) - Israeli tank fire killed two boys at a U.N.-run school in the northern Gaza Strip Saturday, not six people as previously reported, a U.N. official said.

An Israeli army spokesman said he was checking the report.

Adnan Abu Hasna, a spokesman for the U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), said two brothers had been killed and 14 people had been wounded, including the boys' mother, when Israeli tank fire hit a school run by UNRWA in the northern town of Beit Lahiya.

Palestinian medics had earlier put the death toll at six.

"Israel must be held accountable for what happened," Abu Hasna told Reuters.

About 45,000 Gazans fleeing battle zones are sheltering in U.N.-run schools in the enclave.

Hospital staff in Gaza said four Palestinians had died in other violence Saturday morning, including three killed by a tank shell that hit a residential area.

The military, which said it hit about 50 targets in the Gaza Strip overnight, said it was also checking that report.

More than 1,150 Palestinians have been killed and 5,100 wounded, many of them civilians, since Israel launched an air blitz on Gaza on December 27 and sent in ground forces a week later.

Ten Israeli soldiers and three civilians, hit by rockets fired from Gaza, have been killed during the campaign.

There seems to be a little misunderstanding, perhaps the following will help.

first Every religon thinks it's believers are the chosen people. I mean if a religion said, we are not as good as that religion, people would leave and go to the other one. Every religion is the only true one also. Now as my grandmother would say, "no people were chosen, Just live a good life. And if jews were chosen, what were they chosen for? To be persecuted forever?" A lot of jews think this "chosen people' thing just makes them a target.

The fact is, Gaza is down the street from Bethlehem. Fact of the matter is, there are many Christian and Catholic Palestinians. not as many as Muslim but still a more than reasonable amount of Christian Palestinians.
