I was just thinking of you, my dear Jelly...I was watching a movie called "The Darwin Awards" that had a scene supposedly shot in Wendover but that featured a beloved Reno landmark- Twin City Surplus! According to the movie, Jamie and Adam from "Mythbusters" work there. Also according to the movie, Wendover has TREES, but no MOUNTAINS. Hmmmmm...

...and I you, dear Robotland! I proudly wore my recent gift from you last night to a night of techno and an appearance by HotShot Few Thousand, Munz's robot. Great fun and he even let me operate it speaking as a street urchin and trying to steal guy's girlfriends.

Are you entering any new art exhibitions soon? Cheers,

Hey, Jelly! Waiting to hear about acceptance in the West Michigan Area Show, and making a bunch of stuff for the Lakes Of Fire event and "our little campout in August"...meanwhile, I've been pestering the good folks at Eclectic Products for the definitive lowdown on GOOP....And they apparently JUST ended a FREE GOOP PROMOTION(!!!!!). Dangit.

I'll share the reply with y'all when it comes....Meanwhile, GOOP On, Baby!

A discussion with "Technical Services"....

THE ENTIRETY OF MY DISCUSSION WITH THE GOOD PEOPLE AT ECLECTIC PRODUCTS, PRESENTED TO YOU IN REVERSE ORDER BECAUSE I'M LAZY:

Hi as stated before they are different in formula, some have UV resistant’s and some don’t,. This is pretty much all the information we can give you on that subject.
Thanks

Hi
The only thing I can tell you is that the Goops are pretty much the same and the E-6000 and Goop are made of different formulas. Hope we answered all your question.
Thanks

Subject: GOOP vs. E-6000

Hey, Guys!
Your fine products have been a subject of debate and discussion for several years over at the Burning Man website...(Go to "Eplaya" and investigate "The Poop About GOOP".) What I'm hoping for is the DEFINITIVE WORD on whether or not there's a fundamental difference between E-6000 and GOOP, and what the difference is between the various types of GOOP...I've used about a zillion tubes of GOOP, all different varieties, and can't really tell the difference. Can you provide the last word on the subject?

Why can't they tell us which one is UV resistant and which one isn't?

All GOOPs say on the wrapper whether or not they are UV resistant.

And I agree, all GOOPs are pretty much the same, therefore it is my suggestion to go to the RV section at Wal-Mart
and get the RV GOOP if GOOP is what you are going to use.
It is UV resistant and little more than half the price of the other GOOP varieties.

If you are going to have something where there is extreme stress from weight or whatever, use E6000.

.......and E6000 wasn't originally made by eclectic, it was from DuPont, if I remember right.....

Good work.
It's nice to get an answer out of the Goop folks, of any kind.

Edit Dork - editing out the visible email addresses AGAIN.

Okay, I'm going to go get a tube of E-6000 and try using it instead of GOOP for my usual art projects in order to see what happens.

...oh but they said PRETTY MUCH ALL, which implies there is still information on that subject they are willing to divulge...have you tried bacon? That usually works on the playa as a way to soften up the old neighbors! Just where is this 35 Technical Services located? An early morning delivery of fried bacon and spam should easily pry loose the last morsel of data we all seek. (of course, we can't have Robotland deliver said morsels, or any other playa mortal, the temptation would be stupendous).

Yeah, I'd be hard-pressed to resist Baconated GOOP. Perhaps an unmanned drone?

Should I goop toys to truck hood while its bare metal, after primer, or after paint?

Now that I have my own angle grinder I want to grind and repaint EVERYTHING.

There are some epoxies you could use on bare steel and as the bonding agent too.

Welllll.....I'd try a test. Personally, I prefer to do as much stuff-onto-other-things bonding as I can, and THEN make with the primer and paint. Primer's grabby, but it can still create a Resistance Layer that can in the long run make Good Sculpty Bits become MOOP.

Want those bits to REALLY stick? Drill holes underneath anything that you're gluing on, and make sure that the GOOP penetrates into the underside. It's like a Pop Rivet TM made of GOOP!

Gyre's right about the epoxies, too...Especially if you plan to stick a bunch of goodies on at one time. As long as you're mixing up the two-part stuff, may as well use it all up!

Funny you should mention drilling. I was thinkin of bolting the figures onto the hood where possible so they don't get stolen. Some of the other bits on the "gluey" my wife OK'd for me to do won't look quite right unless I GOOP em.

I was thinkin bare metal but thought I'd ask just in case it might be stronger to attach to paint or primer for whatever reason. This is my first gluey vehicle. I'm only doing it cuz the truck is startin to look ugly. I still have to decide on the camo pattern I'm gonna use. Something non-us and ol school with green brown and black.

When you glue to paint, you're gluing to paint. Not to what's underneath the paint.

Agreed. If you glue to paint, now your bond is only as strong as the paint is bonded to the surface of the object.

Real primer gives more surface area for crap to cling to than bare metal, just make sure your temperature is right for it to dry and set properly and it will work just fine.

putting holes through the metal first is def a good idea too.

Old paint can sometimes have a very good bond, though some sanding may be advised.
Often painters don't strip fully because of this.
It really depends on what you're applying on top.

They say paint hardens more over time.
Of course some paints used recently fail totally after a short time.

THIS JUST IN!
I was poking around Menard's the other day and noticed that you can now purchase a sample pack with four teenytiny tubes of GOOP- Shoe Goo, Household, and two others that I have managed to forget already. Four bucks for tubes so small that they would barely make one small repair apiece. (They'd be nice for making GOOP tube earrings, though.)

MORE changes to my beloved adhesive! They've decided to change the packaging- Now the cap is SMALLER and harder to open, and I swear that they're using thinner foil for the tube- It kinks and tears a little easier than I'd remembered. Most shocking of all- The screw-on snout is gone! (At least from the "Household" GOOP...) I almost never used them for applying glue, but they made nifty dinosaur teeth.

Here is a play date for you Steve.

June 13th, Histoical Village in Vicksberg. See "Tincan Campers".
They are vintage restored (RV) campers pulled by vintage cars.
They have been restored by old guys who toured in them as kids.

See other historicals, RR station, farm house, one room school, print shop and tools of all kinds..

The village was created by my sister and her best friend year.

They started with the RR station. Now it has growen into a whole village dating far back into the 1800's.

Sis's friend has passed on. Sis keeps working on it and making it grow..

The next project is a barn/shed that will house Slays(cutters), wagons, cars and black smith shop..

I told her about Planet Steve. She would like to see if you can contribute art or knowlage..

The village also has some RR rightaway that makes a running/bike riding trail for a couple of miles. So take a bike..

Oh, Sis's name is Bonnie Holems.

If you tell her you know me, she may call the cops and have you removed.
