Hello! Travel assistance?
Hello there. I'm flying to Reno from Chicago for my first BM and currently haven't really worked out any feasible transport plans from there to the festival. Any suggestions? Many thanks,
Seb

Hi, welcome
Don't you just walk out to the shuttle stations and grab the next Black Rock City Muni Bus. Every 22 minutes.
Ooops, that was a dream I had last year. Hang on, I am sure someone will provide guidance, or keep looking.
But depending on when you arrive you will see other burners at the airport, they are the ones with bikes on their backs.

There will be a rideshare on teh main site later in the year. Also, some people arrange rides through their regional contacts/boards/groups. Some people post in Share Resources, but that truly is not the best place to arrange a ride. Keep scanning that forum, things crop up. Be sure to check the dates, you don't want to respond to posts which are from 2008.

I dont think it will be hard to find a ride. I personally will be trying to get 1-3 passengers to come down from toronto, canada to share fuel costs.
to tell the truth, i think that alot of the ride shares and final planning wont take place until at least june. I find it difficult to plan my actions to that precision this far in advance.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

The sticking point is often the amount of luggage. Sedans may resort to roofracks and bikeracks to have enough stuff (necessary and whatever they define as fun) for two people. Also, if you're shopping in Reno, you may represent too much driving around when they'd rather just go on to the playa.
I'm not telling you this so that you'll decide not to do it, but to make you aware of the logistics that you should solve if you want to be a good passenger.

Hello?! DB Cooper it. Just have the pilot veer a little to the right on the approach, a little more.....a little more......And Jump!
Apparently it's a pretty popular way to get to the burn. Why, I saw many a peeps arrive that way.

I agree. Airdrops have several advantages, especially for the pilot. No airport tiedown fee, your aircraft remains dust free, there is no danger of hitting playa snakes and crumpling your landing gear.
However, and this is a big however, your survival vest and drop bag do not contain enough suppies to last a week in the desert. You must arrange a supply drop or an advance team to pack in supplies. ( water, tent, shade, food, etc...)
Or... You can find a brave bushpilot with proper training to airland you and unload enough supplies for one on the transient tarmac parking area. You then can schlep your crap into walk-in camping...Arranging transport out during Exodus is another matter...

It's kind of peaceful once you get over your socially conditioned disgust.
