Double Hexayurt?
Double Hexayurt?
Has anybody tried to attach two hexayurts together? What I am thinking is to basically have them right next to each other, but remove all or part of one wall and use that as pretty much a door between the two yurts. One area could be for sleeping, and the other for cooking and hanging out. Has anybody tried this? Would removing one wall greatly affect its stability?

We are planning on a two or maybe even three room yurt this year. Based on our experience with the one room yurt last year, we are planning on removing part of the common walls. If you remove the common walls entirely the roof would sag and lose stability. Don't forget the roof sections are each made of two triangles taped in the middle which then rest on the wall. Gotta have some support.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Well that's what we're thinking at the moment.
And yes betabox, that circle of tape holding the roof provides lots of stability.
And speaking of tape, don't skimp--order the 6" wide stuff. You'll be glad you did.

Yup, ordered the tape tonight through fixtape.com. Getting the headstart now on buying all my supplies so its not a crunch when it comes down to buying everything. August will come sooner than I think.
Also found a lead on the polyiso board here in So Cal. From what I have been reading its a bitch to find it anywhere near here since we dont really need it with the nice climate and all. Will post the info if I can confirm it.

Just go to any Home Depot and get the 1" x 4' x 8' reflective insullation panels--they're always in stock (thermax or equivalent)
Here's the link written by the guy that invented the hexayurt--there are videos and lots of other links in that link too:

If Home Depot doesn't have it, you don't need it. We used the stuff from HD and it worked great.
Remember to tape the edges to prevent moop and also to make sure you can disassemble the boards and not ruin them. Ours are as good as new (except for the dust!) and we'll reuse them again for probably several more years before they need replaced.
There's another post here that has most of this info already asked and answered.
