Stilt Walker

Post by DCPowerStilts » Sun Nov 16, 2008 10:55 pm

Hey all, I have been wanting to come out to the burn but find logistics a little daunting. I'm east coast based, although I've met alot of burners who have been interested in trying out my spring stilts. I guess running and leaping as if you are always on a trampoline has a certain appeal to those who enjoy expressing their inner selves.

we are boog and deb from central illinois . read about burning man in hightimes a while back. have been a psuedo dead head for a bit.. my brother more than I. he took me to my first show. Deb is a bit more sheltered on the concert and festival scene but we cant wait to make it to our first burning man.

Dude, I'm seriously gonna have to come in from Manassas to try those out! Think the Playa is too soft for them? They kinda remind me of raptor legs. *pictures T-Rex costume*

Ohh, and hey everyone. I'm Frosty. I've been obsessed with all things that light up, go boom, & catch fire for as long as I can remember. I'd tell you more about me but I'm trying to figure that out myself. I'm hoping this journey will help me figure that out.

I'm tessa and BM09 will be my first year. I'm from the northbay, CA but am currently going to college abroad in Costa Rica, and next year I'll be studying in China (I'll basically be leaving BM and going directly to the airport).

I'm beyond excited! Great to be here :)

Welcome to eplaya, Tessa! Wow, going straight from BM to China, talk about a culture shock! I went to Shanghai last year - that won't be quite as shocking as some other cities could be. Please make sure to leave yourself lots of time to get to the airport....exodus can be very unpredictable.

My name is Asia.
I'm 21 and in Oregon.
This is my first ever Burning Man, I've heard tons of stories from my boyfriend (who's going with me) and I'm more than determined to go.
I work for a natural foods grocery store, I have a lovely cockatiel named Chiyo who is seriously the most adorable, lovable, sweet, cuddly, fascinating, bitchy, moody, childish, easily pleased (there's a word for it... right?), quiet, noisy, chatty and strange little girl I have ever met. I think shes the closet to a kid I've ever gotten, and completely and utterly spoiled too.

But yeah, I don't know what you guys want to know about me, and I started an intro thread in the newbie section... I think I'll lurk now XP.
See you all around.
Nice to meet you.
Happy New Year!

Hi, I'm Jonas, 22, from Germany.

Now for the fun facts:
* BM virgin
* I play a lot of music on a lot of instruments (my favorites right now are my beat-up self-built acoustic guitar and a ukulele I bought for 20$)
* I do a lot of sports which have to do with boards ... snowboarding, longboarding, wakeboarding etc.
* I write short stories and have two novel drafts in a drawer. They scare me somewhat but I hope to finish them one day.

Oh, and I'll start a suit job in April. Will know whether I can attend BM09 once I've figured out whether I'll get ~10 days off for it.

Post by Garfunkymunky2 » Sat Jan 10, 2009 9:12 am

Hey, my names Garry and Im from Ireland. I was at BM last year and it was truly the greatest time of my life. Counting the days to 2009 although I may be overlooking a million things in between now and then. Im in my second year studying journalism and have to fly back to England after this years burn and live there for a year to get my full qualification!!! Its gonna be a hectic one....but so what, sos everything these days.

Well thats me....well theres loads more but thats a good enough summary. I try not to deal in money...I try to deal in fun instead. :D

like jonas, i play a number of musical instruments [african percussion, trumpet] and am into all kinds of performing arts. i'm gonna need some help getting to the Burn because my transportation and financial situations are dire. i'll be a serf if necessary, but i must get to the desert.

Look into caravaning with someone from MA/VA/DC.

We could use a good trumpert-playing serf, but you gotta get yourself to the desert.

Greetings Yellowfeather, welcome to the madness :D

Hitch-hiking around this summer, eh? Where will your wanderings take you? Ummm, Burning Man is a trumpet free zone, if they catch you with it they may duct tape you to the trash fence :P

jk, jk

Read the survival guide, alot. Peruse the various websites online. Drink water, might as well start now.

Oh, and bring bacon. All of it. :D

Haha, thanks for the heads up! too bad i don't eat/handle pork.

i'm gonna start here in md, then it's up to new york, out to illinois [chicago and collinsville hopefully], wisconsin [wausau], oregon [eugene], cali [sf, la, sd], arizona [tuscon area], and of course BRC. az isn't set in stone and depending on where i am/ need to be before the Burn, it might get dropped.

Hi, I am Zeke, 42 years old, Bay Area, and first burning man!

Been reading FAQ - somewhat intimidating, but I'm going to give it a very prepared go.

I'm thinking up costume ideas and gifts to fit with the theme. Doing my homework...

I'm a naturist - pleasant-speak for nude not lewd. So my costume for large parts of time will be...garden of eden, I guess.

I've seen lots of pics and videos on Youtube, Flickr; hopefully my age and wardrobe choice won't label me negatively.

Will be going solo - using the board to learn about camps and reaching out to one for some community, so I don't just get lost in the hubbub. Anyone want to adopt a naturist virgin?

Looking forward to it...see everyone there...

Geez Yellowfeather, blow right on by Detroit with stopping by for a nice drive-by shooting :D And here I was saving a nice warm Stroh's for you out in the shed. My oh my........

Zeketrover, welcome to eplaya :D Your getting a good start reading the faqs. There is a boatload of information out on the web about the burn, this time of the year is as good as any for staying inside and surfing the web. I know, I spent 2 yrs in Fairfield (TAFB), I still have the wrinkles from all the rain in the winter. Oh, wait....those are my getting older wrinkles :(
Just be prepared, come forth with an open mind, like you apparently already have, and be prepared to be blown away. It's like nothing you'll read about. It's better :D

Sticks, caught you in your own thread, welcome again :)
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

Thank you very much!! yes I will have to save a lot of money ( 1 u$d = 3,50 $(argentinean pesos) but the salary is like 1 = 1 so... ) but when you got something in mind, you can make it ;) thank you for your nice welcome (my english could be very bad... I learnt english just watching Seinfeld without subtitles, and using the pc, I have no practice)
Hoping everything go better for everybody, the world just needs something new, in lots of ways :)
Will I see you in the dust in 2010? I HOPE

Hey Noe, welcome to eplaya.

You learned English just by watching TV???? Damn, I'm jealouse. I think I hold the record for taking Spanish 1, 2 and 3 at UCLA more times than any other student in their history and I still can't speak a word!
