Anyway. I know I should quit again, but I really don't want to, but I hate the smoke smell, dirty ashtrays, etc...
The product is called NJoy and they are "electric" cigarettes that were unveiled at teh 2008 Consumer Electronics Show. Costco started carrying them recently as a mail order item and I thought i would give them a try. If it sucks, I can return it to Costco for a refund.
It looks like a cigarette, only about 10% or so bigger. The "cigarette" part is a rechargeable battery, the filter tip is a vaporizer and the cartridge. Inside the cartridge is nicotine, water, propylene glycol and a flavor additive. Each cartridge is approx equivalent to a pack of cigarettes in terms of average draws taken while smoking.
It arrived today and so far I am pretty impressed with it. It "hits" like a real cigarette and you exhale water vapor. For all practical purposes, it looks like you are smoking, and more importantly for the smoker, it really feels like you are smoking. There is even an led in the tip that lights up when you take a drag.
The nice thing is, all you are getting is the nicotine. Its smoking, but 95% healthier for you.
I'm gonna use it for a week to decide how I really like it, but so far, I am pretty sold on it. It will give me a chance to evaluate the claims for battery life and how long the cartridges last, etc.
The cartridges come in regular, menthol, apple, vanilla and cherry at nicotine strengths of high, medium, low and zero. It came with high strength cartridges and they are giving me more than I normally get so I've been pretty buzzed since this afternoon.
Anyway, if you are interested in checking them out for yourself, they have a website and there are several review videos up on Youtube about them and I'll post a follow up.
Oh, in terms of cost, the starter kit from Costco (has 2 batteries, a charger and 15 cartridges) was about $10 more than buying 2 cartons of cigarettes and the refills of 10 cartridges are $20 a pop. If they really do last as long as a pack per cartridge, I'll start saving money for my habit with the first refill order.
I have zero vested interest in this product and I am merely passing on info for other smokers for a smoke free alternative that will make "smoking" less of an issue.
