I figure this
2 tickets = $600 tops
Round trip mileage = 2200miles by 20mpg X what ever the gas rate is in august, also figure a little extra.
guesstimate $500
Food = $400
Booze = $400
Camping gear =$600
so about $2500.....
So does that seem to be a fair guess of expenses?
anything else I can def get myself...

First, why in the world is your boss paying you to go to Burning Man?Anti-Hero wrote:I figure this

Do you have any camping gear that you can use from last year? Liquor seems high, unless you are going to be bartending. Gas looks a little low so add a bit to that. If your boss is willing to give you $2500 for your trip, I would take it. It would give you plenty of money and you could probably give him some change back!

And bacon expenses as well. Does anybody know how Pork futures are trading on the Chicago Mercantile Board?xenarchi wrote:I'd pad that a bit more for gas costs.
Honestly, does the camping gear mean you gotta buy everything, something? What about shade shelter? And are they not buying your blinkies and costumes as well?
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

I'd definately up the "cushion" on the gas costs... I'm hoping on wrong (by a lot) on the high side, but I'm currently budgeting gas at $4.50/gal in my planning.
As to the booze/food costs, I suppose just what you plan on drinking/eating would dictate those budgets -- but I'm sure I could keep at least 2 people full and drunk for $800.00 over nine days if I had too ;)

Gas will be around $2.00 a gallon, tops. OPEC cannot cut production enough. The futures have it at $1.30ish, add .50 taxes and profit (CA). These prices have been steadily slipping from a predicted $2 a gallon for most of 2009. Nobody is trading over $2.00, until Apr 2010 ($3.44/gal), and that is a strange spike in a sea of 1.30-1.80/gal.

I agree, it SHOULD be around $2.00, but since we've already seen it at $4.00+ that's what I'm budgeting at (just in case). Unfortunately I have't found a major gasoline retailer that will let you buy pump futures.
I can buy everything I need for the week right now today (so I will know my costs) with the exception of gas and ice -- actually that's not true, I suppose I could buy them today, but storage for 7 months and then the bulk transportation are a little tricky.

No my paychecks do not come from the discovery channel. hahah
as for camping gear, I pretty much need everything..
I am not asking more, I will be explaining to him now tickets are $260, but soon they go up, and there are service fees what not...
Look if they are going to send me, I want to be sent off very well
But you think asking for that much should cover me..... or is that too much... or too little?

Well, as far as camping gear, unless your shopping at Wally World, I'd say it would cost you more, especially if your also in need of a shade shelter. I'd have fun pricing a list for you outta, say, Campmor, but I'm up to my ears in trauma pads setting up the shopping list for the medical team at a new regional, Lakes of Fire.

Here is a link to the Tent I think I am getting. unless some one recommends something better http://www.competitiveedgeproducts.com/ ... filiate=20
As for shade structure.... I am going to acquire that myself....
My options for a shade structure are A: http://www.overstock.com/Sports-Toys/No ... u=11269581
Or option B:http://www.domeclimber.com/8ft.php
which would have a parachute for a cover
What does everyone think?

SinceI have to pay for everything myself, I tend to look for good, reliable tents and camping gear at the lowest prices I can get. Since someone else appears to be paying your way (you must have naked pictures of him and his girlfriend) I would by the best gear that money can buy. Only you can decide if you need a 10 person high end tent.
For that type of tent, I would get the Springbar.
Many shade choices.
Get something that blocks light~ not a parachute.
Some approaches shelter you from wind too.
For higher cost, there are better tents and lighter.
With enclosed shade, you can use a really lousy tent too.
Silvicool or solid aluminet is the best shade material, without going to single surface gold mirrored mylar or etc.
Reflectix and similar materials are good too.
Other options include prefab structures, if transport isn't an issue.
Or an rv.
For luxury, there are 12 volt heating pads and even air conditioned ones, swamp coolers, standard ac and so on.
RVs range from $100 to a few million.
So, plenty of choice there.

I will not give out the name of my Company, But I work for a Property Management Company. I am an On-site Property Manager. About a year ago my company sent me to Pueblo CO, to take over management of a shopping center, get it cleaned up and lease it out. Well I hate it here, it is just the most miserable place to be... for me at least. Anyways they are asking me to stay an extra year! I said Hell fucking NO!! Then they pretty much begged me, and I said I will stay if you send me and my girlfriend to burning man. I do a bang up job so they said OK.

I've seen that tent also and have been wondering if it's all it's cracked up to be. It's cheaper on Ebay....

Well A-H. That tent and the shade shelter will pretty well eat up your camping gear budget. Can I assume that you already have the rest of your gear, sleeping bags, cot or mattress, stove etc etc etc?
I've also read alot of good things in here bout the springbar.

Hate to break it to you, Simon, but last year you were on the drugs when you got the condoms. Chocolate. and it melted.

I own the northpole party tent, but haven't used it yet. I ended up going solo last year, and decided against bringing it... looking forward to using it this year, but will try to rig some guy lines as it has no real attachment points. I'm going to get a center string with the radius marked on it and stake the bottom out as tight as possible before I put up the center pole. I also have a solar powered christmas led star for the topper. pretty sweet deal, for the boss to offer your trip. I guess at this point that any suggestions about frugality would be unwanted. If he flips out over your estimate, let us know, and we can give you the cheap cheap suggestions that many of us live with quite happily.

Gyre - you're right. No model = little help. I took a look on their site before I posted my initial comment but could not find anything that looked like the tent set I purchased last year. The tent I got had 4 shock poles and held up like a champ. I wish I could give out more info about the tent but it is in storage in Reno and I am in PA. I was only suggesting that you don't necessarily have to spend $300 to get a tent that works.
