Proposal: Camp Liminal
Proposal: Camp Liminal
A camp for BM virgins/noobs (like myself).
We camp together and share in the logistics - like any camp.
We fan out and explore individually or in pairs rather than as a group. We share our experiences back at camp thus enriching us all. The camp would facilitate sharing BM experiences with maps, white boards/note boards whatever. Maybe try to share a mid day meal and to facilitate communication.
We all find better volunteer options and play time and walkabout time as a result.
Try to attract as wide a variety of folks as possible who are singles or pairs. I think it would be better if most of us did not know each other prior to BM.
Art: create a photo and interview documentary web site of the range of experiences as the individules pass through the liminal state of virgin campers and evolve into Burners. (I'm a photographer but it would be better if most of the input came directly from the participants).
Keep it simple.
I'd be willing to supply a communal shade structure and handle basic planning.
There is so much to read that I can't confirm that this is an original idea...

Wonderful idea...Post a noon informational meeting on the calender, post signs at Info in Center camp. Maybe a potluck lunch one day. Shade and gossip are classic fare. Perhaps Shy Camp or other noobievilles could help yous guys. Go for it, is my advice.
I haven't given up yet. There's lots of time. And I may already have a co-planner recruited.
Cheers

You'll find people to camp with.
It's early.
I'm not worried about me. I can make friends anywhere.
And to think I offerd free booze to the heathens and now I get dissed... Sheesh

Liminality (from the Latin word līmen, meaning "a threshold" is a psychological, neurological, or metaphysical subjective, conscious state of being on the "threshold" of or between two different existential planes, as defined in neurological psychology (a "liminal state") and in the anthropological theories of ritual by such writers as Arnold van Gennep, Victor Turner, and others. In the anthropological theories, a ritual, especially a rite of passage, involves some change to the participants, especially their social status.
The liminal state is characterized by ambiguity, openness, and indeterminacy. One's sense of identity dissolves to some extent, bringing about disorientation. Liminality is a period of transition where normal limits to thought, self-understanding, and behavior are relaxed - a situation which can lead to new perspectives.
People, places, or things may not complete a transition, or a transition between two states may not be fully possible. Those who remain in a state between two other states may become permanently liminal.
