Phelps Hero for smoking Pot

Post by Apollonaris Zeus » Mon Feb 02, 2009 7:56 am

My hero smokes pot. I love him even more now.

The Olympic swimming star Michael Phelps quickly acknowledged his poor judgment after a photograph showing him inhaling from a marijuana pipe was published Sunday in a British newspaper. Although his admission is unlikely to affect his swimming eligibility

OMG He should be totally sanctioned, all of his endorsements should be totally taken away, he should be stripped of all of his olympic gold medals and he should offer a public apology to all of the world's youth that have now been affected by the fact that an olympic gold medalist can do recreational drugs responsibly and not ruin their entire life.

What kind of role model is that? He is a traitor to the war on drugs!

JK

It's too bad that he has so much to lose in endorsements and future olympic standing that he just can't come out and say, ya, so fuchking what! Get over it. It should be legal to begin with.

I hate that little print...........

I agree, but, I wish he'd just say as you suggest......

I see companies dropping him, and, as private enterprise, it's their right.
they can project whatever image they want.

I can see a certain amount of image, especially regarding steroids, etc, attached to athletes, though.

where does one draw that arbitrary line? I think that's the question.
pot, coke, heroin? hhhmmm.......

I don't think there should be any line, I think it should all be legal, including steroids.

I think the pathetic thing is that he basically had to apologize--he stands to lose millions of dollars. You mean you wouldn't do a mia culpa to protect that kind of money?

It's more the fault of our society, not Phelps.

I agree on the legality issue with you, completely, we've discussed that, too.

I'd like it not too "out there", especially steroids, just for the effect it has on youngsters.......as far as emulating their "heros", maybe, "Gods forbid", some social responsibility on the part of celebrities?......

Steroids are dangerous when taken before natural growth has completed and youngsters shouldn't take them. But herein lies the problem--honesty and trust.

If drugs were legal and there was truthful dialog and information available as to when and how (and if) they should be used, the majority of problems would be avoided.

Most kids are smarter than given credit. When someone tells a kid that smoking marjuana will ruin their lives and they try it and see that is bull shit, they then think that anything someone tells them about other drugs is bull shit too.

i disagree. he has already made more money than most people will make in their lifetime... i mean ... how much money do people really need?

if smoking a bit of pot were that important to him, he would stick up for it. he CAN afford it. clearly it isn't as important to him as maintaining his well-earned position in the world. but it's ultimately his decision ... don't go blaming society.... whatever that means.

Simon, I have a son who's ADD and he took Adderall in his younger years. Probably should still be taking it, as a matter of fact, but he's no longer in school, so he's managing.

It's always been my understanding that Adderall does not affect ADD folks like speed. On the contrary, it calms and focuses them.

Now, I may have been out of the loop on this for a while, and there may be new info out there . . .

But I think we could all agree that the "problems" come people take it who are not prescribed it -- and to excess of prescribed dosage.

was the snowboarder caught by pee pee test during competition? they would have taken phelps' medals if he was nailed during the olympics.

i think the problem is the press, the photog who made money snapping shots of a 20 year old at a party, the people who buy this crap. who cares? let him play a little ...

i've been on addies for almost 10 years, and indeed, it is a matter of whether or not you need them and appropriate dosage...

i take 60mgs a day, enough to geek a rhino. I also occasionally, ok, more than occasionally rip a phelps now and then.

here's an interesting editorial from the washington post...

I just heard that the stupid fucking sheriff of that town where Phelps was smoking pot said he was going to prosecute him if he could get enough evidence to prove it in court!

pot isn't banned by the world olympic organization anymore except during competitions so they won't be taking any action. Even alcohol is banned in competitions. Drug laws are much progression outside of america and its fascist approach to drugs.

Sadly Phelps is a target for prosecutors and LEO's looking for a promotion or judgeship as well as those goody two shoes mothers without a life that have to speak out against anyone living a free life. Most of Phelps sponsors are ignoring this except for Kellog cereals which has dropped him. Too bad for Wheaties. It sucks anyway!

Like none of those fucking million dollar bailout executives never smoke pot in college.
