Camp Nomadia - a camp for nomads

Post by Serolynne » Sat Jan 17, 2009 2:23 pm

Is travel in your spirit? Is wanderlust your calling? Have you dared to give up a conventional home and make home wherever you happen to be? Is life too short and the world too large to be stationary?

Then we welcome you to join us at Camp Nomadia this year.

Our first 2008 camp for nomads was a great success, and we want to do it again!

Our intention with Camp Nomadia is for it to be a nomadic convergence - a group of folks for whom Black Rock City really is our only home for the week.

As many of us are living in motion and are used to being self-contained (and don't have the space to transport extra stuff anyway), Camp Nomadia doesn't currently intend to offer much in the way of camp infrastructure beyond perhaps a group shade structure. We are open to other infrastructure manifesting amongst other campmates - but we intend to keep things easy-going and low-hassle, creating a group synergy based on individual self sufficiency. As such, at present time, we have no camp fees either.

This camp is open to current nomads, future nomads, past nomads, wanna be nomads, part time nomads, domestic nomads, international nomads, technomads, lowtechnomads, land nomads, backpackers, RVers, water nomads, flying nomads or folks who just want to be around nomads (yes, your non-nomadic friends can join too!). Burning Man veterans and virgins alike!

If you are interested in being part of Camp Nomadia - please be in touch, and we'll put you on our organizing mailing list. And even if you don't end up camping with us, please do stop by our Nomadic Happy Hours to meet other nomads converging at BRC.

Hmm.. we could camp in a different place each day. We could have musical camp spaces? :D

We have some really cool nomadic folks signed up to join us, and we just started a google group to start organizing our camp. If there are any other nomadic spirits who wish to join us, please be in touch!

Long Live Camp Nomadia! I intend to once again pitch my tent with you fine folks, though once again I'll be working a lot so I may not be around much during the week. I will however be staying to help clean up after the event and I'll make sure the campsite is MOOP free. I was at Burning Man headquarters last night and checked the MOOP map, we got a well-deserved "green" rating, which helps to ensure good camp placement!

So, Camp Nomadia was unfortunately amongst the 130 camps that did not receive placement.

But never fear - we're nomads! We thrive on not having an address and the camp will go on :)

A benefit of not being placed is that we no longer need to restrict our camp size to the space we asked for. So, if there are any other nomadic spirits out there desiring camping with a group of like minded folks - we welcome you to join us!

You can get more information on the camp, our intentions, how to join us and the nomadic events we still plan to host at:

http://www.technomadia.com/resources/campnomadia/

We also welcome all nomadic minded folks to join us for our Nomadic Happy Hours, and this year we'll also be offering a workshop on how to become technomadic (integrating in technology with full time travel). Check Playa Info for our location.

All our best!

With many many thanks to the folks at Pandora's Fix-it Shoppe, Camp Nomadia has a home! We'll be merging up with them and be located at 6:00 & DNA.

Our Nomadic Happy Hours (mingle with nomadic minded folks) and our How to be a Technomad workshop will be hosted there as well.

As our space is now much more constrained, we do not have room for any new campmates at our main camp location. However, we have started a 'Camp Nomadia Annex' that we will attempt to place within a couple of blocks for a group of Nomads we couldn't fit in at a Pandora's. If you feel called to Camp Nomadia, we can offer space in our Annex. Please visit the above link for more info on how to join us.
