Large scale sound art banned?

Post by djaded » Fri Apr 02, 2004 11:17 am

This was in jack rabbit speaks-

"LARGE SCALE SOUND ART BANNED

After pressure from participants and from government authorities at
this year's Cooperators Meetings, the Burning Man Project has
determined that the most community-minded solution for 2004 is to ban
Large Scale Sound Art, those camps usually found at the 2 o'clock and
10 o'clock locations in our city.

This decision has been arrived at only after careful deliberation, and
we realize it may be seen as extreme, but ours is an extreme problem.
Details will be forthcoming, but we wanted to let you know how to plan
now. We're sorry for the inconvenience."

I dont exactly know what they mean by "large scale sound" but I am assuming it is amplified music from the rave camps. They are trying to nicely say "we dont like your kind of art so you're banned". This probably wouldnt effect my experience much but... It kinda seems to go against everying burning man stands for. I could see some kind of rules for the loud music but banning it alltogether? POOP!
It's those Swedes again....get the hose.
