3 Season Tents?

I remember reading somewhere that 3 season tents are good for keeping the dust out. I thinking of buying a new tent, not just for BM but local summer camping as well. What do you guys think? Is it worth the extra money or should I just go with a summer tent and embrace the dust.

You won't be sorry getting a tent that doesn't have screen openings that can't be sealed, there'll still be enough dust for you to embrace.

Here's dust you can embrace from '08 or '07, I've forgotten. Just for a reality check, that wadded up fabric on the right side, other side of the water bottle, is my navy blue flannel shirt.

Frostyman, we used a tent, 3.5 season. We covered the mesh parts with a comforter, used the big paper binder clippey thingy's to secure it to the tent. We didn't have near as much dust in our tent as Phil's picture. We also had a good wind block on either side of the tent. Another suggestion is to keep all your stuff in totes like we did. If your truly anal like I am you can go further and put everything into big ziplock bags before placing in said tote. Also, take a spare sheet to cover your bedding. Lastly, dont forget your dust devil

Roll up your bedding or cover with a large sheet. I use a brush and dustpan for housekeeping. A broom or mechanical carpet cleaner is handy. A hand vacuum uses batteries which can be recharged or replaced. I use those huge 5 gallon ziplock bags for clothing and dirty laundry. You can use a large plastic coffee can to wash your undies with some soapflakes. I usually just bring a new bag of tubesocks and a new bag of briefs ala that Iragi guy they found in the spiderhole. New underwear everyday made me feel SPECIAL.

Most vaccuums do little but re-arrange your dust pattern, especially little ones.
Put a hanky around the paper filter thingy and it will work better.

Not really. A 3-season tent can have loads of mesh in it, which means it can become a dust bowl. This even happens when the tent is fully covered with a fly. The dust blows up underneath the fly and right into your vents. Most 3-season have some amount of mesh in them, and even a small mesh window can let in a lot of dust. You can figure out a way to cover the vents yourself, as others have suggested. Otherwise, a 4-season tent is the kind that can be completely sealed, but they are expensive. But for regular camping, I do like a good 3-season tent. In some places, you can get caught in wicked storms during the summer, and it's good to have a tent that can withstand that.

I bought a new tent from cabela"s
with reinforced tent poles,
a tent tarp for the inside and
very strong I was not suprised
when it went thru 7 days and
no problem, only problem
was when people were partying
on top of my laundry in the
storms....yuck...but it was
worth the cost and they ship
it to you....Just open it up
before you go, I was glad I did
setting it up when I got there
I knew how to it quickly in
100 degrees!Buy rebar and secure,
put on tape so you don't hit
your legs in dark florecent
duct!!!

Tents with mesh that can't close are barely one season tents and even then, only in hotter areas.
Good luck in heavy rain with that too.

There is no excuse for the shit being pawned off off the public as tents.

Most are only good for children camping indoors.
