Just stumbled across this thread.

Stuff like this is why I enjoy this event and the culture radiating out of it so much.

Kudos.

Oh and regarding powder coating…

It’s very durable and Toolmaker is right about it being good stuff. If you want several different off the wall colors, it could get expensive. There's a shop down the road from me that I have do coatings from time to time. For a while I needed a color that he did not stock as standard and I had to order a 50lb box of the stuff. If you have to cut costs, sticking with pait might be a better choice, but...

That being said, there are some really cool colors starting to be made available. I have no doubt that there are UV reactive colors made and I’ve seen glow in the dark powder coatings with my own eyes. The guy that was spraying it on at the shop stepped outside (this was at night) and the residue that was coving him from head to toe him gave him this really eerie phosphorescent glow. He took off running down the street making ghost noises.

You can also do your own powder coating of any bits that are small enough to be suspended in your oven at home.

I’d forgotten about those home powder coat setups. I’ve heard that a dedicated oven is a very good idea though.

These guys sell one too that I’d seen some years ago.

Yeah, an oven in the garage is a pretty good idea. My girlfriend wasn't real happy to come home to the aroma of cooked powdercoat, it's just not the same as fresh bread. I was pretty surprised and pleased with the results though.

From what I understand those home powder coat jobs arent as good. Kinda like the tool black at home deal. I haven't tried the home powder coat but I have tried the home tool black and compared results with what was done in the shop and I go with the professionals.

I did the home powder coating for small bits on a Norton Commando that I'm building and was really happy with the results. They match up well with the frame which I had done at the shop. There's a few imperfections, but nothing too noticable and for the price you won't hear me complaining.

I've seen powder coating baked with quartz lamps.
