when the archer is shooting for nothing,
he has all his skill.
if he shoots for a brass buckle
he is already nervous.
if he shoots for a prize of gold
he goes blank or sees two targets--
he is out of his mind!
his skill has not changed.
but the prize divides him. he cares.
he thinks more of winning
than of shooting--
and the need to win
drains him of power.

Willie Nelson My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys lyrics
I grew up a-dreamin' of bein' a cowboy,
and Lovin' the cowboy ways.
Pursuin' the life of my high-ridin' heroes,
I burned up my childhood days.
I learned of all the rules of the modern-day drifter,
Don't you hold on to nothin' too long.
Just take what you need from the ladies, then leave them,
With the words of a sad country song.
My heroes have always been cowboys.
And they still are, it seems.
Sadly, in search of, but one step in back of,
Themselves and their slow-movin' dreams.
Cowboys are special with their own brand of misery,
From being alone too long.
You could die from the cold in the arms of a nightmare,
Knowin' well that your best days are gone.
Pickin' up hookers instead of my pen,
I let the words of my years fade away.
Old worn-out saddles, and 'old worn-out memories,
With no one and no place to stay.
My heroes have always been cowboys.
And they still are, it seems.
Sadly, in search of, but one step in back of,
Themselves and their slow-movin' dreams.

In the country it is easy for a boy to camp out, but there is no good reason why the city boy should not learn to sleep in the open. Even a small back yard is large enough in which to pitch a tent and build a camp-fire.

California...shocker
Why haven't all her children been put in care yet?
A truly insane person.
I know someone obsessed with birth too.
However she deals with it by being a birth obgyn and having a lot of kids.
Her kids are all sweet as can be too.
It helps to be beautiful and pull in enough to take care of your kids.
So, totally nuts, but functional anyway.
If you ever have any doubts that there are fetishes too weird to contemplate, just look at this freak in california.
Wanting to look like Jolie is definite confirmation.
Cuckoo for cocoa puffs is the scientific term, I think.

I am somewhat consistantly amazed by the fact that burners are often so "Hey the government doesn't belong in x" and then something happens that they don't like and it's "Thank you, Mr. Atkins when the band begins to play take those kids away" when something they don't approve of happens.gyre wrote:Why haven't all her children been put in care yet?

If we had a government that didn't involve itself, I would cheerfully tolerate a certain amount of permanent damage to children as part of the costs.
But we don't.
Anyone choosing to deliver more than three children at one time is choosing to put them all at risk, for their own reasons.
Over and over we see stories of millions of dollars in medical intervention resulting in litters of this size and parents on tv talking about how they can't make the necessary decisions, because it's god's will.
When you're incapable of doing what is difficult for a child's benefit, you have already opted out of the parental role.
I don't see miracles.
I see horror for the children.
