Flowers of dawn, may I ask a question?

Post by 303jewels » Mon Feb 23, 2009 11:17 am

Hello my potential friends.
I'm Jules from the U.K , I'm 36 and am determined not to grow up anymore. I heard of BM years and years ago. -Never looked into it - didn't even have a computer then!
Anyway, gotta say some of the stuff you people create out there is truly fucking stunning. A friend of mine is a sculptor and I know the effort and time these things take ( I hope he'll come too).
I'm not incredibly creative myself, more clever, anyway I would like to build a thing ( I dont know what yet) that I can drag on wheels into the open part of the playa and play music from and when 'we' and whoever joins in is 'done', drag it back to camp. From your knowledges' can you tell me if I can do this ? I've read all the stuff for first timers etc and this wasn't clear.
Incidentally for anyone who's interested I'll be playing, '88 and '89 house (nice vocals for the playa I think) acid, Italian and some Belgian New-Beat - (nothing to hectic) for a nice little party. By the way sound quality will be shit hot (its my job).
Any advice will be fantastic.
Have a great burn in 09, I hope I make it ! - the fucking logistics from the U.K. !!!!!!
(I am trying to stop swearing, I'm just not doing that fucking well!)
Take care. J

You need to work on your swearing it sounds like shit. Oh and by the way, welcome.

First, I'm offended by your potty mouth. (or is it potty fingers?) You can do any type of creative art that moves you. Keep in mind the distance you have to travel with your creation. I suggest to lots of first timers that they attend and try to get involved with volunteering and other things that don't require you to be schlepping a big art project halfway around the world.
Come see what it's all about and bring your big art next year.
And by the way, WELCOME!

There are plenty of UK burners, someone posted a link around here somewhere.

And yes, your fucking swearing needs a bit of fucking refinement, you fucking fuckerty-fuck. We have a Fuck thread in Open Discussion, use of the word "fuck" is mandatory.

Welcome Home.

Hey, Thankyou for your welcomes.
SHAMBALA I am sorry my language offended you, and I thank you for answering a part of my question. Your suggestion of checking out BM and participating in BM on a smaller scale the first year then maybe doing something on a bigger scale and shipping it from the U.K next year is sensible. Thing is I just love the idea of participation and I love to make peoples experiences 'great', its just me and I wanna do it now!!! I guess finances will hold me back anyway.
Re: 'others' comments - Yes my language is SHITTY and it may well need some REFINEMENT, although I must say that when someone asks me a question, as I have done so here, I refrain from saying something negative about their 'bad language' etc. -I mean if someone asks me for directions I don't respond by saying 'You dress like a twat'!!!!

Perhaps some prefer to focus on my negative points?? - Just an observation!
Anyway mine is half full but, I have made the suggestion that I am 'impatient' (just in case!!!)
Looking forward to further response from my ORIGINAL POST at the top of this thread.
I'm off to the 'Fuck' thread as suggested, so that I can exchange pleasantries.

I think I will enjoy eplaya.
Once again, thanks for the 'welcomes'.

My spouse, MyLarry, had to get up early to go to work to earn the money we need to do things like, oh, go to Burning Man. So I'm awake. I'm in the Mountain Time Zone, so it is um, almost 7 in the morning. Not so early.

The US has time zones, we're big that way. I'm in Utah, which is an hour ahead of California where the eplaya servers are. And the time probably isn't set right on my computer.

I think you should elevate the tone by using British profanity.

I can manage a "bloody" with a straight face, but I don't know how convinced the board is by that.

My dear Cryptofishist,
As kind as you to furnish me with your company, I am forced to say that your drivel and complete and utter nonsense are beneath me. MUST you be so relentless with it?
As much as I find 'proper conversation' quite delectable, I fear with you that my attempts would be futile as your absurd obsession with 'one-liners' would soon have me cause to adorn my coat.
At this point and time I refuse to entertain your thought/suggestion of 'upping the tone using British profanity', even if I was to act this out for purposes of entertainment, I'm quite sure little would be understood. Therefore I find your suggestion pointless, simultaneously I find the concept of you 'thinking' at all to be astonishingly bizzarre.

Other than that, I do not doubt the beauty of your aspirations for a single moment.

Yours sincerely.

Is that cock or cunt or something else? I can only imagine.

Welcome and as far as your original question, which I understood to be.."Can I build something and drag it around Black Rock City for fun"

Thats what it's all about. good luck with your efforts and keep us posted on your plans. How are you going to make it happen? Better start a list... only 6 months till we burn everything. (or not if you so chose)

It's cod. Using the archaic british spelling "codd."

You and your 'one track minds' - BOTH of you.

Its CHAP!!!

I was gonna give you a clue like this...... 'C**P'
but, I figured Cryptofishist would have come back with CARP! and WeDeliver with CRAP. So I didn't bother and chose to put you out of your misery instead.

Thanks for yours WD, yeah its gonna take some planning. I'm begining to wonder if making my 'thing' over there would be easier than shipping from the U.K. I have never been to the States before but, have a guy in Santa Barbara who might 'put me up' for a while at some point before BM. I really don't know but, do realise the clocks ticking.

I'm glad it seems that I can drag my thing out onto the open playa, have a little party then drag it back. Wonder if anyone can tell me if there is an SPL@?m. limit on the open part of the playa?, its not that that I want to build a monster of a sound system but, it would be nice to attract 100 or so for something a bit more intimate. Like I said in my original post I'll be playing 88' and 89' house most of which is from NYC/Chicago and at the time (from what I gather) it didn't go down to well Stateside whereas in the U.K we went fucking beserk!!! So I don't think it'll attract that many anyway, its really very interesting as I wonder how 'new' some of you will find these sounds? Its funny, having listened to this for 20 years myself, the lyrics and vibes seem totally made for the playa?
This gives me an opportunity to say thanks to the Cities that produced that music (not forgetting Detroit) back then, they were the best days of our lives! ...........Tardis anyone??!!

Thanks 'Si of the P'.
I never thought for a moment that what I fancied doing was widly original.
If these 'sounds' are that commonplace on the playa, I'll do something else. I've never been to BM so I don't know, thats why I ask. I just wanted to make sure there was music that I love, so thought I'd bring my own in the hope others would enjoy it too.
As it goes 'Camp Cliche' sounds kinda cool but, I could interpret your comment in two different ways, though, I prefer not to assume. So I guess I'm still none the wiser. Enjoy your 09' burn.

oh dont mind me....i'm a no drum circle circle kind of guy too, but far be it from me to smash bongos.

do whatever your heart desires...that is the blank canvas that the playa gives to all of us...if you put your soul into whatever you decide to do, i'm certain that it will be what you make of it.

and dont worry, i'm a walking, talking cliche, myself.

I think I'll adopt it as one of my own attitudes, I feel better already!
