What I Learned Today
If you're double-checking to see where Absolut is brewed, go to Wikipedia and not the company web-site.
(It's amazing how useless some websites are, and not in a good way.)

I just got this thread. I'm glad you posted twice in it. Unfortunately, I didn't learn anything new today--but I'm hoping I'll be able to post something tomorrow.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Learning is so much fun..
I had a thought...
if a rolling stone gathers no moss,
does rolling moss gather many stones?
The reason older people might seem forgetful sometimes is they have cleared some information to make room for new information.
Some things we learn early in life, like fire is hot and look before you sit, somethings we have to learn over and over and over again. Can't think of what that was though.

more usps
When someone sends you a package of something via US Postal Service, without a number on it (neither "certified" nor "signature required"), and they won't leave it on the doorstep and it gets "returned to sender", there's no way for the post office to find it again. If it never gets back to the sender they have no idea where it went.
Conclusion: My tent pole is now lost in the ether that is the USPS. Damn.

Re: more usps
The number doesn't even guarantee delivery. I've had the USPS lose a couple of certified letters--and you know, they won't refund the postage!!! (Just the 'extra fees' for certification and return notification.)Cassidy wrote:When someone sends you a package of something via US Postal Service, without a number on it (neither "certified" nor "signature required"), and they won't leave it on the doorstep and it gets "returned to sender", there's no way for the post office to find it again. Cockroaches have no blood pressure. They breathe through holes in their sides.
I do not anticipate that this knowledge will ever be useful.

I learned that Amazon has a pretty liberal refund policy.
I ordered a textbook last Friday (to replace one that was stolen during the car break-in a couple weeks ago) and paid for "Next-Day Delivery." It took two days for the package to arrive. I called and asked them to refund the difference between 1-day and 2-day shipping, but they refunded the entire cost of the shipping. Woo-hoo!
I also learned how to optimize two or more chemical reactors in series to obtain optimal product yield, whether using continuously stirred tank reactors (CSTRs), plug-flow reactors (PFRs) or a combination of the two. I'm still a bit fuzzy on how to optimize the recycle stream (taking part of the exit stream and recycling to the reactor feed stream). All in all, I'll be happy if I just pass the course!

Yesterday I learned that the ivory of african elephants is softer and easier to carve than that of asian elephants. So, at one time they were importing African Elephant tusks to India.
I don't know if there is a difference between savannah and forest elephants. I don't know how walrus and mammoth ivories compare.

Yesterday I learned that it's pretty essential to check your banking history fairly often. I checked my history yesterday and saw I had $600 in overdraft charges deducted from my account. However, I'm supposed to have overdraft protection! Fortunately, they're going to give me all of my money back, since they screwed up.
The worst part is, this has happened before. It's like banking with a pick-pocket!
Me: "Um, excuse me, but I believe you have your hand in my pocket!"
Bank: "What? Oh my, look at that! But are you sure this is your money? Didn't you, by your irresponsible actions, really intend to give this money to me? I thought you did, so, I just helped myself."
Me: "No, I'm quite sure I didn't intend to give you, nor are you entitled to, any of my money. May I have my money back please?"
Bank: "Well, OK, here you go."
Me: "Um, excuse me, but I believe you have your hand in my pocket again."
Bank: "Oh! Sorry! We just can't seem to stop doing that."
I believe that the problem is finally fixed now. Nonetheless, I'm still not letting my guard down with these fuckers!
