Has Sybil crossed the line into violation of the TOS?
I did ask some higher-ups about the possibility of establishing a commercial zone and was told absolutely not - Eplaya was to remain commerce free. So that's out.
Groups are possible any time. The only real use I can see for them is for organizing camp details though, which wasn't really what the Apok thread was about. It would be a shame to hide what's gone on in those threads the last several years. Pure joy, it was.

I like the openness. Most of the big theme camps have a "back room" on another board or via email and do their planning there. some do do their planning on the eplaya board. Some camps have even had 2 or 3 threads in different areas. Most seem to like having other peeps stick their nose in. Jokes, snarks, questions and ideas flow freely. thread drift is normal and part of the fun. Take a look at LeChatNoir's Contraption thread for both '08 and '09. Lots of good things happen with the openness. This is after all the virtual playa.

I have no opinion on the group threads...but I do have one opinion on the current moderator situation. Don't change a damn thing. It works, and works well...currently we enjoy the best damn moderator situation this board has ever had.

I guess a Burner classified section would fall under that heading wouldn't it.Dork wrote:I did ask some higher-ups about the possibility of establishing a commercial zone and was told absolutely not - Eplaya was to remain commerce free. So that's out.

The mods are pretty low on the food chain, except Dork. He's the super-mod. All major changes are up to the folks at the top. We've discussed a commercial zone, but it didn't happen. Is that good or bad? I don't know.
I could moderate private groups, I have time. Personally, I've not thought through all the ramifications of private groups on the eplaya and the community. I can easily see several sides to the issue. I just am sensitive to the suggestion today as I am on another board which allows private groups. Someone found a way in to some of them and reposted some extremely nasty personal attacks. The uproar is disruptive and ugly. Private groups here would possibly require a different level of moderation. You can tell people to play nice, you can ask, but unless the mods have the power to enforce, it is a futile exercise.
This would insure that there would be no back-stabbing and attacks unknown to others.
Anyway, I don't want to make unnecessary waves, but if this were something that people felt would be beneficial, I am putting myself out there to help make it happen.
If you can let me know who to contact via PM, I'd be glad to approach them on the idea, if members here think it would be a useful feature to help in planning camps and other BM related projects.

Mellow.......
what ja talkin' about sure sounds like tribe.
It also sounds kind of "exclusive" can I join, can I, can I?
I like this place, where any tom dick or harry can post any crap that spews from their fingers. Then we act. Not before the idiot posts, but afterwards.

Yes, Most of us bigger more complex camps do have a back room, elsewhere.
Geeze, you wouldnt believe ours!millions of posts! 100's everyday. All pertaining to the infrastructure's, meals, etc...etc...etc....
As we all live across this big blue marble its the only way to cordinate from afar till we see each other in August!
But the public threads we do here are primarily to keep the burners aware of fun stuff!
Like the Booby Bar is about to Announce our 2009 Theme nights...
We like to be able to do fun posters and use our imagination...it also helps each of us come up with fabulous costume idea's.
Not to mention if you do see it in advance you would know what night were doing what.
In the Case of Kamp Apok...its the propaganda posters which are just fabulous. And they get made into a book every year by Dragon Fly Jafe!
Its awesome!!!!

I think things were handled very well, and don't think there is any need for changes (thanks, Mods). There was more going on, than most people know......
It's true, camp details are handled on a private site. It's been that way with all of the theme camps that I've been involved with.
Our Eplaya threads, for us, is to make announcements, spark interest, and have fun. It's not really cool to have someone completely "hijack" it, though. IMHO.....
Not to worry, though. Rumor has it, that thread will come back.....
OK, moving on..............
