There might be something here too

An indoor course layout

A rope course would be a little light and easier for transport, more bang for the buck if you will.

A good ebook on another type of obstacle course

Yeah, thanks, I've been milking the government for all it's worth.
Some good ideas there. One thing I don't want though, is any obstacle that requires the victim to be trained on the right way to go through it, which would require attention and intelligence on the part of myself and my campmates. So I am going with fool-proof or at least self-explanatory obstacles.
More to come soon!

Time requires a time-keeper to watch each attempt, what a boring task you have assigned me!mojo wrote:Great idea - my boys will be all over that.
How about prizes for anyone able to complete the course within a specific time?
I accept survival, then hoisting the stone (weighs around 100 lbs) then beating me with a boffer. I'll have some sort of barbaric necklace to offer, and some ale or mead out of a horn. It shouldn't be easy, and i would be OK if nobody achieves it.

Georges Hebert:
1. bridge
2. depth jump
3. over and under and over
4. low crawl
5. walls- one low seven foot wall
6. a high wall with footholds and the rope at the back for rappelling
7. balance beam
8. the stone of strength
9 . boffer duel
This would yield:A (Natural Method) session is composed of exercises belonging to the ten fundamental groups: walking, running, jumping, quadrupedal movement, climbing, equilibrium (balancing), throwing, lifting, defending and swimming.
A training session consists, then, of exercises in an outdoor environment - a course of greater or lesser distance (a few hundred meters to several kilometers), during which, one walks, one runs, one jumps, one progresses quadrupedally, one climbs, one walks in unstable balance, one raises and one carries, one throws, one fights and one swims.

Have you considered anything a little more brain intensive? Something like a dummy minefield with an ammo crate that must get to the other side without blowing up the team using only a plank and the members of the team. Also a high wall that requires all teamates to make it over without leaving someone behind.
Of course this would be found on a leadership reaction course type thing.. a little more brain intensive than your standard o course.
Team play could be an interesting sidebar for what you have so far.
Also thought it might be good to have some flamethrowers for the crawl obstacle. We would need some safety folks to put out those who stick their heads up to high.
As far as engineering goes I can help ya there. A tower and a zip line for one isn't all that hardcore to come up with. If scaffolding is available the tower issue is resolved. Since SOO many ppl use scaffolding for dome builds maybe some kind soul will let ya "borrow" theirs during the week until they need to teardown.
I'm good for any of those "boring" jobs that aren't labor intensive. I'll let ya know my availability if you want someone for timekeeping and such one I hear back from all the departments I applied to for volunteer work.
Of course this is all MOOT if I can't swing a ride each way.

I expect that a lot of people will go with fake fur. I'll be wearing the real thing.
So you hit it with a Dustbuster when you get home, like any self-respecting barbarian. That's fur. Pigskin is just leather. Just take it to the back porch and shake it out. Put something else on while you're doing that or the cops will surround your house. Just some friendly advice.
Where were we?

LOL, those are dead rabbits as the shoulder cape. I riveted them together. I suppose cleaning it wouldn't be too bad, but it is entirely too warm and quite heavy. Perhaps I'll drag it along for fuzzy night at Booby Bar.Ugly Dougly wrote:I expect that a lot of people will go with fake fur. I'll be wearing the real thing.

perhaps a few rock sizes............little ones for lilliputians, medium for "just rights", and, large ones for "mine's to hot".........Generic Anonymity wrote:The idea of an obstacle course sounds pretty sweet - but 100lbs for the big rock?? I know you're not worried about whether people can pass the test, but it might be nice to feel like we have a chance.
Maybe we need to be able to pick up that rock to have any hope of winning the boffer duel?

Thank you for your suggestions, now say hello to your doom!
Oops, wrong management strategy. Let's start over.

Typical "Proving Stones" as surveyed by Steve Jeck averaged about 300 pounds. (OR maybe that's a mean. Whatever.)
The point is I am letting you off easy, buttercup.
But in *sigh* fairness, and since I can barely lift 100 lbs overhead either, I will relent, compromise and bring my entire selection of favorite play pebbles along. It's a big playa.
The greatest kudos (and the coveted Necklace of Barbarism) will still be awarded to the strongest, refer to 2009 theme if you have any questions about survival of the fittest.
Now, where's my beer?

location, location, location???
Maybe I missed it in the thread, but where will this challenge be?
I'll try it (if I get to lift the small boulders) but definitely want to stop by and see who can lift the biggest stones... heh heh
By the way, you call the 7 foot wall a "low wall"??? HA HA HAHA
ok, so I'm a pipsqueak.

Re: location, location, location???
Not exactly sure, Cassidy. Haven't heard back from Placement yet.Cassidy wrote:Maybe I missed it in the thread, but where will this challenge be?
Somewhere on the desert, that's for sure.
Okay, I'll try to be helpful, it will be located on the Barbarian Theme Camp. That's all I know, I swear!
Is that a Balinese kitty? ^^
Re: location, location, location???
ahh, no - - she is not as svelt as the Balinese, though she is more beautiful.Ugly Dougly wrote:Is that a Balinese kitty? ^^
She's 100% Tonkinese (which is actually 1/2 Burmese & 1/2 Siamese), which makes her round and happy.
I shall seek out this Barbarian Camp "somewhere in the desert". Shouldn't be too difficult, right? I'll just listen for the sound of fighting and the smell of cooking meat.
HA HA hahahahhahahahaha
