My favorite place to meditate is in Center Camp at the hottest part of the day. I plug in my music into my ears and lay back with my iced coffee and have some of the best moments out there. I think you can meditate any place out there if you are in the right mood. And the rabbits, oh my, that is really sad. I had never run over any animal and no matter how careful we were, there were at least 20 smushed on the way out last time. I was really sad.
This was something I was concerned about my first trip. I assumed the Temple would be a very quiet place, which it ended up not being, especially at night, almost disrespectfully so, I thought, considering what most people are going there for. So I hiked all the way out to the last art installation way out on the outskirts and sat down in the dark. Then a huge, loud, thumping art car roared up and 30 people jumped off and were running around screaming. Places you think will be quiet may end up not being quiet at all. I camped in the outer ring last year. Walking right across the road, away from the playa, towards the mountains usually took me to quiet places. Cars never go out there and nobody can set anything up out there, so it tends to be pretty chill.
I imagine that the Burning Sky parachutists who jump from a few thousand feet have a few moments of quiet contemplation on the way down. The rush of the wind, the ease of movement, and the experience of now. I was a sport jumper before becoming a paratrooper. I remember those jumps fondly. Ahh, when I was young, and wild, and wooly.
Do you really come to a city of 40,000 plus for quiet? The trick is to let it go. You can acknowledge something like noise without it breaking your concentration. Hear it and let it go.
My personal challenge is the heat. If I can find shade, I don't mind the noise.

So, you're a tequila drinker...no wonder you meditate. Hey, I see you're from BC. We're in Seattle and stopping for the night at Summer Lake Hot Springs Saturday night...if you're there look us up! Also a great place to greet the morning sun.carleighb wrote:
Thank you!! Thats just awesome of you. I will bring alot, some to share too! It seems like the appropriate drink for this event.
I went to Mexico a few years back for a stagette and I hadn't had much Tequila before because its hard to get anything but Cuervo here.
Wow. Of course I had heard of its reputation, but I figured that nothing could take down my inhibitions to the life of the party/ first one naked etc... level. I was soooo wrong. I was like a completely different person!
Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.
