Can you set up some sort of art auction site?
I’ve seen this be a successful approach several times before.
Thanks for the heads-up and for sharing the link. I’ll keep up to date on it and pass the word to others, including some local DPW folks.

And for your own protection, when you travel, get medical evacuation insurance. You probably want to pony up for some before the burn, if your health insurance doesn't cover it.

Hey, an actual benefit to serving your country.DoriumLux wrote:theCryptofishist wrote:Where do you get it?
Unless AntiM decides that's too commercial.
I get it from USAA. Unfortunately, it's for military or family members of military members.
Actually, I'm a member, which is ridiculous, but I'm okay with that.
So, if anyone else has a good source (What Me, Google?) let us know.
And if you click the link upthread, it seems like they've gathered a third of what they need. That's a lot of dedicated work, and a lot of generous people.
*tears up a little*
Oh fuck, crying on line again. Im such a gauche parrot.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

We still have work to do here.
The cost to transport her to the United States is enormous.

She is accepting food through a tube in her nose, although they are still giving her milk despite her allergy (they don't have ricemilk but they sure do in California!!).
The cost to transport her to the United States is enormous.
It may work out that we'll have to buy a section of a commercial plane for everyone and all the gear and her on a stretcher but nothing is set up yet. This is surely a coordination nightmare with airlines and airports and ambulances and government and visas and passports etc.. Things however are obviously looking up. We may even make it home in time for my birthday on the 21st of March. That would be the be the best birthday present I could ever get. Thank you, Thank you.

We've used a company called Travel Guard for our international travel.
http://www.travelguard.com/
Our last trip to Argentina, the insurance was around $300 for 2 of us and covered us for every conceivable reason that our trip could be delayed, from the airline going under to terrorism to "acts of god", and finding us lodging and transpotation during delays. Insurance on baggage and effects, medical coverage, 500k in medical evac coverage to destination hospital of choice, emergency evac coverage for government unrest, war or natural disaster, 500k life insurance coverage each if we were killed...
We have used them on four trips to date and I am going to be checking into coverage for the trip to Burning Man and back and see what kind of coverage they have for road trips.

Now, I'm talking out of my ass here, but I pray that any and all who know Larry will get on the hotline to him and make the wires buzz.
Surely he has contacts with movers and shakers or knows people who do -- some business or somebody with an airplane who at least has the self-serving need to generate some goodwill and/or make the news by using their corporate plane for something really GREAT -- to get this gal to the US hospital for life-saving treatment!
Just brainstorming here!

It's a long, strange journey to a restrospectively inevitable destination.
