does anyone know anyone that brings a telescope to the playa

I am flying in from OHIO so i cannot bring one. I was just wondering if anyone would be willing to let me meet up this year and take a look see at the night sky with them........

PM me if u plan on bringing a telescope

or if u know a certain camp direct me

If I recall chiefdanfox has and/or brings one although I don't know personally, only from eplaya, you might try pm'ing him and asking.

We have brought a least one telescope for many years, but you can only see the stars at night. We use it to spy on Larry Harvey.

Some newbies this year in Barbie Death Village plan on not only bringing a telescope, but an art vehicle to transport it/them in. If you want to discuss it, I'll be happy to give you their email addy, but I only have it at work. Go ahead and email me at: [email protected] .

There is a guy called Mike (playa name McGuyver) that has been running a Planetarium camp for the last three years. He says that the fierce winds really kicked his butt last year. Because he needs low light, he is usually camped out around 'D' and 9:00 streets.

I have his e-mail, but I'm not sure I should give it out without asking his permission first.

i would love to come visit him and hang out. I couldnt believe how great the stars were without a telescope so with that view it would be a great. It would mean a great deal to me and it sounds like he has the same feeling about the stars

In 2007 I used Spica and Vega to align in the early afternoon, and we looked at a crescent Venus and watched Jupiter for awhile. Then we drank beer. The playa has been so dusty, that a 20'-30' high platform would go a long way out there. You wind up looking at dust, so star viewing is not much better than what I can do from my house in Oakland. Not sure about going this year, but if I go, the scope will again tag along. I set it up in Hushville last year.
