Ex-Israeli president to face rape charge
The Associated Press
Published: March 8, 2009 - ‎11 minutes ago‎
http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2009/03/ ... sident.php
JERUSALEM: Israel's Justice Ministry says former President Moshe Katsav is to be charged with raping a woman who once worked for him.
The ministry says Attorney General Meni Mazuz has decided to indict Katsav, who wants to go to trial to clear his name.
Last year Katsav called off a plea bargain that would have required him to admit to lesser charges of sexual misconduct but avoid up to 20 years in jail.
Katsav stepped down in June 2007 after four female former employees accused him of crimes including rape, sexual assault and sexual harassment.
He resigned two weeks before his seven-year term expired. He says he is innocent of any wrongdoing and was a victim of a political witch hunt.

This is an article from a Palestinian think tank;
http://palestinethinktank.com/2009/03/0 ... nightmare/
It mentions that the average Palestinian woman has 6 babies. The third comment of the article is very informative.

Carter made mention of the demographic fear fact in his book and several interviews. One of which I have posted in this thread.can't sit still wrote:This is an article from a Palestinian think tank;

Calls for investigation into Gaza attacks
Israel’s war crimes
Israel blamed its earlier wars on the threat to its security, even that against Lebanon in 1982. However, its assault on Gaza was not justified and there are international calls for an investigation. But is there the political will to make Israel account for its war crimes?
by Richard Falk
http://mondediplo.com/2009/03/03warcrimes
For the first time since the establishment of Israel in 1948 the government is facing serious allegations of war crimes from respected public figures throughout the world. Even the secretary general of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, normally so cautious about offending sovereign states – especially those aligned with its most influential member, the United States – has joined the call for an investigation and potential accountability. To grasp the significance of these developments it is necessary to explain what made the 22 days of attacks in Gaza stand shockingly apart from the many prior recourses to force by Israel to uphold its security and strategic interests.
In my view, what made the Gaza attacks launched on 27 December different from the main wars fought by Israel over the years was that the weapons and tactics used devastated an essentially defenceless civilian population. The one-sidedness of the encounter was so stark, as signalled by the relative casualties on both sides (more than 100 to 1; 1300-plus Palestinians killed compared with 13 Israelis, and several of these by friendly fire), that most commentators refrained from attaching the label “warâ€

MAN! That was one heck of a great read.
I think I'll read it again.
Oh and the ironic part in the article is how it makes mention of the 13 Israelis killed in the war.
Yepper, 10 of them were killed in friendly fire by the IDF and the other 3 no one is sure. The only thing anyone is sure of is one of those 3 died a heart attack.

What a long winded thread (yay for cut and paste)
This may be a simplistic view, but, we as american's need to finally figure out that we cannot solve the world's problems, and we really need to just stay out of it.
Let them fight it out, there are no resources in the area we need, no real benefit to show for all the money we pour into the region.
Leave it alone, and start to focus on our own problem's right here at home

ihlvr, while this problem is in the middle east, that doesn't mean that it doesn't apply to us. In a general sense, the Palestinians represent a high-birthrate culture that puts more value on family than money. The israelis represent a low-birthrate culture that puts more value on money than family.
1/4 of the kindergärtners in the US are hispanic, NOT just in the southwest. What does this imply for the future of the US? From a certain point of view, the future belongs to the most fecund. In general, wherever women have equality and control of their bodies, the birthrate is low. Japan's population is falling as are many other countries.
israel is fighting a losing battle of numbers. France is in the same boat. We'll see.

I wonder if that's the theory behind Catholic, Mormon, and whatever religions promote as many kids as a couple can make, even to the point of helping support them from the church?.........

You are right about the birthrate CSS....but that doesn't change the fact that it's not OUR problem.
I've lived in the southwest all my life, and it is changing. I had to learn spanish just to be able to communicate with people on various job sites.
I don't like it, but that's the way it is. I have two kid's......and am not about to put myself in the poorhouse trying to outbreed the newcomers. Everything changes, one population displaces another. Empires rise and fall.....that's why we are not all speaking Latin at the moment. Let the arabs outbreed the isralies, it's not worth my tax dollars to try and slow the inevitable

You wonder if it's the theory of Catholics? When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

well JK..., not all birth control is considered a sin in the church. UNNATURAL birth control is a sin, ie rubbers and the pill and such. When you go to your classes to get married, they do teach you the natural family planning method. Doesn't really work all that well, but, better then nothing i guess.
Catholic's are just like any other religion, they want to have more little believers. As CSS pointed out, those that breed win.
I'm so glad I'm divorced.......(that's a sin too) no more having to go to mass and get my weekly dose of guilt

Yes, I believe it's called the 'rhythm' method, based on timing the girl's cycle--that was against church doctrine too, but they acquiesced to that when their more educated members began to object to their official policy of no birth control.ihlvr wrote:well JK..., not all birth control is considered a sin in the church. The jewish community is finally coming around to the idea that zionism is something that should be rejected by the jewish mainstream.
http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/com ... 4861.story
The fallout from a pursuit of zionism is just too costly to judaism.
Netanyahu is currently maneuvering to try to start a war with Iran. Let's hope that the moderates can keep him muzzled.

every conversation about overpopulation and/or the expense of preserving life, is *against* creating new life ... and *for* preserving existing life.
am i the only person who envisions a world full of old people who have to work because there aren't enough young people around to pay for their social security and medical expenses? i know so many people with miserable elderly parents who are kept alive with absurdly expensive drugs and medical care... and it's going to get worse, even much worse.
besides, i LOVE young people ... they're so much more fun!
but, of course, we are the old, and out to protect ourselves...

This is a long, VERY well written story about israel by one of it's best authors. He talks about the jews inherent self-destruction because they refuse to be pragmatic or patient.

Gaza offensive: Israel confronts soldiers' testimony of excessive force
Israel's military prosecutor has launched a criminal investigation into the alleged deliberate killing of women, children, and elderly noncombatants.
By Josh Mitnick | Correspondent of The Christian Science Monitor
from the March 21, 2009 edition
http://www.csmonitor.com/2009/0320/p25s26-wome.html
Tel Aviv, Israel - After repeatedly rebuffing charges of having committed war crimes in its recent war against Hamas in Gaza, Israel has been stunned into a self-examination following the publication of soldier testimony about the use of excessive force against Palestinian civilians.
The Israeli army spokesperson said in a statement Thursday that its military prosecutor has launched a criminal investigation into the alleged deliberate killing of women, children, and elderly noncombatants. It marks the first acknowledgement by Israel of possible misdeeds in a war that left 1,300 Gazans dead, thousands more injured, and billions of dollars worth of property damaged.
"I hope there's an in-depth investigation into this issue," Education Minister Yuli Tamir told the Ha'aretz newspaper. "This needs to be checked out immediately and openly, and if there's a grain of truth in it, it must be protested."
Seeming to bolster allegations by Palestinian and international human rights groups, infantry veterans of the three-week war described lax rules of engagement that allegedly led to the killing of civilians, even it was unclear if they were perceived as threats or not. The testimony was given at a seminar at the Yitzhak Rabin military preparatory school near the northern Israel town of Kiryat Tivon.
Earlier this month, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court at The Hague said that he is mulling an investigation in to allegations of war crimes in Gaza.
The anecdotal testimony, which was submitted to the army last month and then published in the military prep school's bulletin, contradicts the military's portrayal of soldiers as trying to minimize civilian casualties wherever possible.
In one instance, soldiers killed a woman and two children at a distance of 100 to 200 yards away because they had misunderstood the army instructions on how to leave the combat zone. Another veteran described an officer who ordered machine-gunners to fire at an elderly woman who was also positioned far away. In the testimony, the soldiers admitted that excessive force was used because the lives of Palestinian civilians were valued far less than those of the soldiers.
"I was shocked," said an Israeli military spokesperson, who requested to remain anonymous. "Some of the stuff described there is far from the rules of the engagement that I know."
Other soldiers described routine vandalism of Palestinian property by units that were holed up in homes.
When asked about the revelations, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said that he believed the stories described were an exception, and insisted the Israeli Defense Forces are the "most moral army in the world" – a commonly used phrase that underscores the prevalent view in Israel that the army hews to an ethical code emphasizing "purity of arms."
Danny Zamir, the chairman of the preparatory school that hosted the seminar, said that the soldiers' testimony showed that the disregard for Palestinian civilians was not an exception.
But, he added, "The norms that prevailed at lower echelons of the command chain that allowed behavior are inconsistent not only with the ethics code of the IDF, but also what is acceptable,’’ he told Israel Radio.
"I'm talking about infantry men who were, for a week or two, without almost anything to do, and, together with their comrades, were a party to destruction of property, graffiti on the walls, and in extreme circumstances, were involved in unjustified injury to civilians – and the reaction of the junior officers in the field was nonexistent."
Michael Sfard, a lawyer for the human right group Yesh Din, called on the government to establish an independent panel to investigate the allegations.
"The new release testimonies raise a grave suspicion that the rules of engagement in the infantry violated the basic principles of the international laws of war," he said. "If the alleged rules of engagement are true, both the officers who gave the order and the soldiers who obeyed them might have committed war crimes."

" and if there's a grain of truth in it, it must be protested." WTF does he mean protested???? Anywhere else, it would be prosecuted.
" he is mulling an investigation" Perhaps the dead bodies should be left on his desk to motivate him. There is no shortage of documentation of atrocities.
" "most moral army in the world" . No shit??? the IDF was formed from the terrorist gangs that made life hell for the British. Stern, Irgun, Likud and the other gangs blew up market places, buses and hotels. Now, their idealistic progeny are the most moral army in the world????
"inconsistent with the ethics code of the IDF" That's not true. It's completely consistent with the ethics code of the IDF.
"establish an independent panel to investigate " No problem, give them LOTS of time and hundreds of gallons of whitewash.
The israelis are so blind that they don't see that they have to completely change their ways or,,,, nuke palestine. They aren't winning in the numbers, nor in the world stage.
They brought in jews from all over the world to out-populate the arabs.
Palestine wasn't all too hospitable in the beginning because of the climate. Now, that israel has polluted the place, it's just not a nice place to live.
They charge at least 40 % of your wealth if you want to emigrate. Who wants to live in a polluted desert garrison?
I don't believe that the israelis are capable of executing the major changes that would be required for them to continue to live in their chosen corner of Palestine.
Dan
Dan
I don't post things because I believe that they are the absolute truth. I post them because I believe that they should be considered.

IDF t-shirts show dead babies, blown up mosques
Israeli army t-shirts mock Palestinian deaths
DUBAI (AlArabiya.net)
Criticism of Israel continued on Monday as reports accused the state of violating international laws and commuting war crimes in Gaza following the Israeli military's second scandal in two days after it was revealed that some soldiers had ordered T-shirts with "shocking" images of dead babies, weeping mothers and bombed mosques to commemorate the end of their training.
T-shirts like one with the image of a pregnant Palestinian woman with a bulls-eye on her belly and the slogan "1 shot, 2 kills," made light of killing Palestinians, Israeli paper Haaretz reported, adding that several t-shirts were printed like one with a drawing of a soldier next to a young woman with bruises topped by the slogan "Bet you got raped!"

The t-shirts carry a similar message of dehumanizing the death of Palestinians with another of the T-shirts bearing the slogan "Better use Durex" next to a picture of a dead Palestinian baby with his mother weeping beside him.
"These are shirts for around the house, for jogging, in the army. Not for going out," Haaretz quoted an unnamed soldier as saying.
The t-shirts are usually submitted to unit commanders for approval but they are not always able to control what is printed, Haaretz reported, adding that previously banned slogans and drawings include: "We won't chill 'til we confirm the kill" or "Let every Arab mother know that her son's fate is in my hands!"
The practice was slammed as "unacceptable" and an Israeli Defense Force statement said the t-shirts "are not in accordance with IDF values and are simply tasteless. This type of humor is unacceptable. Commanders are instructed to use disciplinary tools against those who produce T-shirts of this type."
The t-shirt scandal again raised the question of the moral conduct of Israeli soldiers after they participated in the 22-day assault on Gaza described how they unjustly killed Palestinian civilians under relaxed rules of engagement and accused top Israeli officials of deep contempt for Palestinians.
Attacking medics
Meanwhile, a human rights group charged the army with attacking medics and blocking treatment for the wounded as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Palestinian human rights said there was reason to believe the operations in Gaza amounted to a war crime.
Richard Falk said in order to determine if the war was legal, it was necessary to assess if the Israeli forces could differentiate between civilian and military targets in Gaza.
"If it is not possible to do so, then launching the attacks is inherently unlawful, and would seem to constitute a war crime of the greatest magnitude under international law," Falk wrote in the report to be presented to the U.N. Human Rights Council.
"On the basis of the preliminary evidence available, there is reason to reach this conclusion," he added, pointing out that attacks were targeted at densely populated areas.
A report by Israeli non-governmental organization, Physicians for Human Rights, also criticized Israel and called for an independent investigation into the military's conduct during Operation Cast Lead and listed several offences like "attacks on medical personnel; damage to medical facilities and indiscriminate attacks on civilians not involved in the fighting."
"We have noticed a stark decline in IDF morals concerning the Palestinian population of Gaza, which in reality amounts to a contempt for Palestinian lives," the chairman of the group, Dani Filc, said.
"Israel placed numerous obstacles in the course of the operation that impeded emergency medical evacuation of the sick and wounded and also caused families to be trapped for days without food, water and medications," the report said.
"The actions...violate directives of international law which forbid attacks on medical centers and medical teams during fighting" and "blatantly violated codes of ethics."
Among the specific incidents cited is that of a Mr. Shurrab whose two sons were shot by Israeli forces as they drove toward the southern city of Khan Yunis on Jan. 16.
"One of the sons died immediately, the other bled to death for 12 hours," the report said. "All that time the Israeli soldiers were within a short distance from the Shurrabs but did not provide any assistance despite the father's repeated requests."
Such incidents reflect a general demonization of Palestinians, a process that "reached its nadir when soldiers in an army that flaunts its morality declined to help evacuate injured civilians and trapped families, when soldiers acted in a trigger-happy manner as they opened fire on ambulances, medical installations and medical personnel."
