You may have heard that GOV has amended the "Clean Water Act" They now claim control over ALL watersheds. "EPA might well achieve what it's been striving after for decades: federal control over all land uses,"
http://www.heartland.org/publications/e ... ntrol.html
They claim that they need this authority to eliminate pollution. That idea sounds good. Since organic farmers don't use chemicals on their crops, they should be highly encouraged. It doesn't seem to be.

HR 875 Would Essentially Outlaw Family Farms In The United States
I get a lot of e-mails each day and one todaypointed my attention to HR 875, a bill introduced into the 111th Congress for consideration. I would ask you to do something that members of Congress rarely do and actually read the bill, or at least glance through it which is still more than they ever do. It was introduced by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT 3rd) and has around 36 co-sponsors including Congressman Andre Carson (D-IN 7th) as of this writing. It immediately strikes me as being terribly bad legislation.
Under a heading described as protecting the public health and ensuring the safety of food it creates a "Food Safety Administration" within Health and Human Services. Oddly, not just adding regulations to the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) which is also under HHS. And don't we have the USDA as well? The bill applies to all manner of "Food Establishments" and "Food Production Facilities" (note the following excerpt).
(14) FOOD PRODUCTION FACILITY- The term ‘food production facility’ means any farm, ranch, orchard, vineyard, aquaculture facility, or confined animal-feeding operation.
The bill would appear to even cover fishing boats and your downtown hot dog street vendors. In fact, the bill probably would also apply to your family garden since no exemption is apparent.
What it essentially does is place a tremendous regulatory burden on all of these organizations and individuals by requiring them to have "food safety plans", consider all relevant hazards [note: I wish Congress would consider all "relevant hazards" or unintended consequences of everything THEY did], testing, sample keeping and to maintain all kinds of records. The bill also allows the government to dictate all manner of standards related to fertilizer use, nutrients, packaging, temperature controls and other items.
This massive bloat in government regulation (and taxpayer expense to support it) would add additional cost and headache to every farm, fishing boat, restaurant, slaughterhouse, processing plant, CO-OP and anyone else associated with growing, storing or processing food. The bill authorizes fines of up to $1,000,000 (one million) dollars for "each act" and for "each day" of a violation.
We'll skip over the concern over how important food production and distribution, largely recession proof, could be if our economy continues to decline and inflation takes hold and just address this on the apparent lunacy that it is. As those familiar with history know, large dominant corporations often will use government to demand industry regulations that force the small competitor out of business or introduce barriers to entry that prevent new companies from starting up to compete. In the early part of the 20th century a tremendous amount of regulation was written by the industries themselves to be enacted into law.
In this case, I think this bill could do tremendous harm to family farms or independent food operators. Only massive companies have the ability to meet these regulations and imagine the legal expenses that could be incurred to defend oneself? Never forget, the government has near unlimited resources where you might have to cough up $200 to $500 an hour for a good attorney to defend yourself, your farm, boat, truck, restaurant, orchard, vineyard or hot dog stand. And what about the increased cost of food associated with the cost of compliance, it's not unreasonable to think that many places would have to hire staff or outside assistance just to comply with the law.
We have an excellent history in the United States of safe food, but as Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel suggested recently, "You should never want a serious crisis to go to waste." He spoke those words relative to looking for opportunities to do things that people would not otherwise accept without some crisis. We should be very careful not to let the very rare instance of something like the recent peanut problem be used as such a "crisis". There is no impetus to point the bureaucrats of government and the guns they control, their ability to not only deprive someone of life or freedom but to destroy whole families, careers and reputations, at everyone in the country who might be involved in ensuring we have stuff to eat.
We're doing just fine without this legislation."
This should be a good litmus test for the new admin. If they allow Monsanto, Cargill and Tyson to control agriculture, we're definitely screwed. There has been more than enough proof that the increased productivity of GM plants is severely degraded after several planting seasons. The Indian cotton farmers have found that they STILL need pesticides in spite of corporate claims to the contrary.
Just as the banks have us by the balls for credit, Monsanto can pull the plug on agriculture.

Rabbi, I expect things to grind down for the rest of the year. I also expect treasuries to blow some time near the end of the year. While it's very generous of you to invite people out to your piece of Eden, you might also think of inviting them to stockpile a few things beforehand.
The surplus places sell a 55 gallon drum with a removable lid for about $ 15 These can even be secured with a padlock. on the lid and a chain to your camper.
If L. A. has a pandemic or riot, there might not be much time to stock up,,, especially if everyone is trying the same thing. Last year, in Canada, it was thoroughly proved that the police as provocateurs were trying to start a riot at a peaceful demonstration.
So, riots in L. A. are not out of the question. Some may even want them;
http://www.rense.com/general85/riot.htm
So, you need for everyone to drop off a drum with 420 lbs of cheese and crackers and beer. Did you ever build your composting toilet?

Houseboats are a viable option. You don't necessarily have to worry about Pirates unless you venture into international waters. The main problem with having a boat is that you need to have a port. The weather gets shitty, boats break down and need to be taken into drydock to be repaired, etc.
Sail Man:
Since you have limited space issues, have you considered setting up a 'Square foot' garden? A sixteen square foot garden produces enough food for one person for one year. Best of all, you actually save thousands of dollars in grocery bills. Something like container gardening would help if you had to grow this garden on a porch, in window boxes, etc.
Placing a cloche or poly-tunnel made from plastic PVC over the garden ensures that you can grow food even in the cold northern climates such as you and I inhabit.
http://www.squarefootgardening.com/
Any of the 'extra' food that your garden produces that you want to store can be dehydrated, canned (jarred) or pickled.
Aquaculture is an option if you want to be able to 'grow' your own fish. You don't have to have a pond. Some people manage to grow channel catfish in a couple of 55 gallon drums. Catfish that are harvested can be salted or smoked to preserve them.
http://www.kurtsaxon.com/foods007.htm
Feed the fish on maggots, insect larvae, and the earthworms that you use for a vermicomposting system. You can set up a vermicomposting system so that the worms eat your kitchen scraps, leaves, newspaper and cardboard, and turn it into an odorless high quality organic fertilizer for your garden.
Speaking of 55 gallon drums, they are an excellent resource for storing food and fresh water. These can be stacked together to make a 'porch', placed under your dwelling, or buried. Just be sure that you get 'food grade' containers.

Professorzed, great post! Now, I know more about worms and fish.

Holy fuck! They want 5 years of bookkeeper experience in a mortgage field to earn a competative salary of a whole $10/hour.
Just knowing how to turn on the computer should pay out $10/hour. I know people who can't add 2+2 and they make over $10/hour.
WTF?!!! What a douchebag.

This is pretty interesting;
Ocean "Dead Zones" Spreading Rapidly as Humans Pollute the Planet
"They form when excessive plant nutrients, particularly nitrogen and phosphorus,"
http://www.naturalnews.com/z025795.html
Well now,,,, HR 875 gives GOV the authority to tell farmers just what they can and can't put on their crops and the ground. Since all fertilizers contain phosphorous and nitrogen, GOV may have to tell farmers not to use them. The obvious solution is to stop the farmers from using chemicals. They can just ship all the BULLSHIT from Washington to the farm belt.

All it does to farmers is require them to have a plan for food safety (which they should already have) require them to label and track food they produce, and require them to allow inspectors in. I challenge you to find anything in this bill mandating a particular farming method or doing anything to harm anyone. There has been some food contamination problems in the US the last several years and they're generally made much worse by the fact that the food can rarely be traced back to its source. How can you recall a contaminated lettuce harvest if it's already spread over 5 states with no traceability? If anything, it seems like this bill would do more to raise the cost of imported foods and those coming from huge farms then being split up into many different shipments.can't sit still wrote:Thursday, March 5, 2009

It's certainly possible that some poorly written or enforced regulations MIGHT come out of that department after it's up and running but the fear mongering in those links is a little crazy.

I just dislike the idea of GOV having control over all the land and water. They always manage to muck it up. They ALWAYS find a way to charge you.
The US senate subcommittee on the environment says that global warming ended and now we're into global cooling. This hasn't stopped Obama from conjuring up a scheme to rake off a $ trillion in carbon credits. Now, they refer to it as climate change instead of global warming. CO2 reduction isn't going to help anything except to make people rich.
I have no doubt that GOV will eventually use regulation to screw it up good;

PIQUA — Forcing Ohio livestock regulations onto producers is the first step in a national animal rights organization’s attempt to eliminate livestock production and to create a meat-free, vegan-oriented America.
That was the message which was delivered to hundreds of farmers who attended Saturday’s 18th annual 8th Congressional District Farm Forum at Edison Community College.
The event, which is hosted by House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-West Chester, puts experts from different farm sectors into a discussion about the current and future issues facing farmers across the region.
Speakers in this year’s event included Boehner, Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Bob Dinneen, Ohio Poultry Association Executive Vice President Jim Chakeres, Ohio Corn Growers Association Executive Director Dwayne Siekman, National Turkey Federation President Joel Brandenberger and Policy Directions Inc. Senior Vice President Steve Kopperud.
This year’s topic dealt with ethanol and animal rights, but for the vast majority of the event, the topic of animal rights — specifically the recent actions by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) — dominated the discussions.
Two notable speakers painted a bleak future for Ohio livestock farmers as national Humane Society President and CEO Wayne Pacelle prepares to initiate a variety of livestock farming regulations across the state. In a concerning speech, Kopperud said Ohio farmers should be warned that the Humane Society has the manpower, funding and ability to bring about great change in how Ohio farms.
“I’ve been watching and fighting them for 22 years, and what I’ve seen is the emergence of one single organization which has decided that by itself that it will shift the way America produces food, shift what America eats for food and will do it all in the name of animal protection,â€

I guess that this comes under the heading of survival. It just showed up and I don't know how much truth there is to it.

Well, it seems that peak oil is still with us. Kunstler, the eternal optimist, has lots to say about how this will affect our future; http://www.kunstler.com/mags_diary25.html
There's some good info on oil in this article;
http://theburningplatform.com/economy/w ... ---200-oil Lots of good graphs too. "Since 1988, Saudi Arabia has pumped at least 44 billion barrels of oil, but still has proven reserves of 264 billion with no major new discoveries"
"we get more oil from Mexico than Saudi Arabia. We are dependent on Mexico to supply us with 600 million barrels of oil per year. Without this supply, there would be shortages and much higher prices. Tijuana, we have a problem. Within five years, we will be getting ZERO barrels of oil per day '
"The global oil and gas system infrastructure is rusting away and falling apart. The cost to rebuild our global energy infrastructure would be close to $100 trillion and would require 10 to 20 million workers. "
One more thing to consider, Dan

Well, Monsanto was smart enough to develop super-plants. They were stupid enough to not realize that weeds would adopt the super genes.
"In 2007, 10,000 acres of land were abandoned in Macon country, the epicentre of the superweed explosion, "
"Indeed, according to Monsanto press releases, company sales representatives are encouraging farmers to mix glyphosate and older herbicides such as 2,4-D, a herbicide which was banned in Sweden, Denmark and Norway over its links to cancer, reproductive harm and mental impairment. 2,4-D is also well-known for being a component of Agent Orange, a toxic herbicide which was used in chemical warfare in Vietnam in the 1960s.

This site has some projections that don't sound impossible,,,, considering history.

I'm just posting this for your reading amusement. If you think that there is any truth to it, you might want to follow up and check the details. I have no idea about veracity. Full-on scare tactics from GOV aren't anything new.
READ AND JUST PASS IT ON.
Juval Aviv was the Israeli Agent upon whom the movie 'Munich' was based. He was Golda Meir's bodyguard. She appointed him to track down and bring to justice the Palestinian terrorists who took the Israeli athletes hostage and killed them during the Munich Olympic Games.
In a lecture in New York City a few weeks ago, Aviv shared information that EVERY American needs to know----but that our government has not yet shared with us.
Aviv predicted the London subway bombing on the Bill O'Reilly show on Fox News stating publicly that it would happen within a week. At the time, O'Reilly laughed and mocked him saying that in a week he wanted Aviv back on the show. But, unfortunately, within a week the terrorist attack had occurred.
Juval Aviv gave intelligence (via what he had gathered in Israel and the Middle East) to the Bush Administration about 9/11 a month before it occurred. His report specifically said that they would use planes as bombs and target high profile buildings and monuments. Congress has since hired him as a security consultant.
Now for Aviv's future predictions: He predicts the next terrorist attack on the U.S. will occur within the next few months.
Forget hijacking airplanes, because he says terrorists will NEVER try hijacking a plane again as they know the people onboard will never go down quietly again. Aviv believes our airport security is a joke--that we have been reactionary rather than proactive in developing strategies that are truly effective.
For example:
1) Our airport technology is outdated. We look for metal, and the new explosives are made of plastic.
2) He talked about how some idiot tried to light his shoe on fire. Because of that, now everyone has to take off their shoes. A group of idiots tried to bring aboard liquid explosives. Now we can't bring liquids on board. He says he's waiting for some suicidal maniac to pour liquid explosive on his underwear; at which point, security will have us all traveling naked! Every strategy we have is reactionary.
3) We only focus on security when people are heading to the gates.
Aviv says that if a terrorist attack targets airports in the future, they will target busy times on the front end of the airport when/where people are checking in. It would be easy for someone to take two suitcases of explosives, walk up to a busy check-in line, ask a person next to them to watch their bags for a minute while they run to the restroom or get a drink, and then detonate the bags BEFORE security even gets involved. In Israel, security checks bags BEFORE people can even ENTER the airport.
Aviv says the next terrorist attack here in America is imminent and will involve suicide bombers and non-suicide bombers in places where large groups of people congregate.. (i.e., Disneyland, Las Vegas casinos, big cities (New York, San Francisco, Chicago, etc.) and that it will also include shopping malls, subways in rush hour, train stations, etc., as well as rural America this time (Wyoming, Montana, etc.).
The attack will be characterized by simultaneous detonations around the country (terrorists like a big impact), involving at least 5-8 cities, including rural areas.
Aviv says terrorists won't need to use suicide bombers in many of the larger cities, because at places like the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, they can simply valet park a car loaded with explosives and walk away.
Aviv says all of the above is well known in intelligence circles, but that our U.S. Government does not want to 'alarm American citizens' with the facts.. The world is quickly going to become 'a different place', and issues like 'global warming' and political correctness will become totally irrelevant.
On an encouraging note, Aviv says that Americans don't have to be concerned about being nuked. He says the terrorists who want to destroy America will not use sophisticated weapons. They like to use suicide as a front-line approach. It's cheap, it's easy, it's effective; and they have an infinite abundance of young militants more than willing to 'meet their destiny'.
Aviv also says the next level of terrorists, over which America should be most concerned, will not be coming from abroad. But will be, instead, 'home grown'----that means having attended and been educated in our own schools and universities right here in the U.S. He says to look for 'students' who frequently travel back and forth to the Middle East. These young terrorists will be most dangerous because they will know our language and will fully understand the habits of Americans; but that we Americans won't know/understand a thing about them.
Aviv says that, as a people, Americans are unaware and uneducated about the terrorist threats we will, inevitably, face. America still has only a handful of Arabic and Farsi speaking people in our intelligence networks, and Aviv says it is critical that we change that fact SOON.
So, what can America do to protect itself? From an intelligence perspective, Aviv says the U.S. needs to stop relying on satellites and technology for its intelligence. We need to, instead, follow Israel's, Ireland's and England's hands-on examples of human intelligence, both from an infiltration perspective as well as to trust 'aware' citizens to help. We need to engage and educate ourselves as citizens; however, our U.S. Government continues to treat us, its citizens, 'like babies'. Our govern- ment thinks we 'can't handle the truth' and are concerned that we'll panic if we understand the realities of terrorism. Aviv says this is a deadly mistake..
Aviv recently created/executed a security test for our Congress, by placing an empty briefcase in five well-traveled spots in five major cities. The results? Not one person called 911 or sought a policeman to check it out. In fact, in Chicago, someone tried to steal the briefcase!
In comparison, Aviv says that citizens of Israel are so well 'trained' that an unattended bag or package would be reported in seconds by citizen(s) who know to publicly shout, 'Unattended Bag!' The area would be quickly & calmly cleared by the citizens themselves. But, unfortunately, America hasn't been 'hurt enough' yet by terrorism for their government to fully understand the need to educate its citizens or for the government to understand that it's their citizens who are, inevitably, the best first-line of defense against terrorism.
Aviv also was concerned about the high number of children here in America who were in preschool and kindergarten after 9/11, who were 'lost' without parents being able to pick them up, and about our schools that had no plan in place to best care for the students until parents could get there. (In New York City, this was days, in some cases!)
He stresses the importance of having a plan that's agreed upon within your family, to respond to in the event of a terrorist emergency. He urges parents to contact their children's schools and demand that the schools, too, develop plans of actions, as they do in Israel .
Does your family know what to do if you can't contact one another by phone? Where would you gather in an emergency? He says we should all have a plan that is easy enough for even our youngest children to remember and follow.
Aviv says that the U.S. Government has in force a plan that, in the event of another terrorist attack, will immediately cut-off EVERYONE's ability to use cell phones, blackberries, etc., as this is the preferred communication source used by terrorists and is often the way that their bombs are detonated.
How will you communicate with your loved ones in the event you cannot speak? You need to have a plan.

The 3 examples are a bit off..
It is my understanding that the new machines look for density and whatnot. They are not just looking for metal anymore. As far as the liquid and gel ban.. thats because of the explosives that are similar with a plastic, clay nature or liquid look and feel so to speak. I know when I travel with my PSP game/video toy and all the other electronic bits n such they always wind up opening my carry on. I only travel with carry on now so I always have all the chargers n such for everything with me. I don't think they get that too often so I feel a LITTLE more secure than I did prior to 911. Airport security is fucked in alot of ways still and the tail end of the article I agree with. We havn't seen what other countries have, until we do we won't take security real serious. I would feel much more comfortable with more assault weapons like MP5s and AR10s about in the right hands just in case. SUPPOSEDLY a fair amount of the sircraft have undercover gun folk ready to take care of business. I don't see 100 percent of the planes with em tho else the tickets would have went up more. If memory serves pilots can carry now with a cert. Not 100 percent about that but I almost positive I saw something about it. The biggie is US, we have to be vigilant. Every citizen has a duty to be ready to respond accordingly when the need arises. There are plenty of things one can have on a plane just in case. A garrotte can be used via a belt. Anything even vaguely pointy can be jammed into an eye. Theres plenty of things that can be done with regular objects to take out a terrorist. The most important thing with taking out someone naughty is to do it quick and lethal. A good non-lethal tool I have is a small flashlight.. very high output will make sure an attacker cannot see you to shoot or stab you while you move in. Sure the flashlight will cost as much as a cheap 38 revolver but its legal to have on a plane or anywhere else for that matter.
I tell women to keep some of those chemical hair products handy if they are gun shy. Spraying in the face with some of that shit is better than red pepper. If you really want to do a number than use bug spray.

Good Points - but really nothing new.
Attacking BEFORE you pass through security at a facility is not a new tactic. At some point in a secure facility, there must be an interface between secure / unsecure areas. The farther out you make it, the more security you need. So its a fine line to figure out the best location.
True - you could never take a plane again in the US without being stomped into oblivion. No one would believe that your merely going to Cuba and will be released once there.
A family plan is basic common sense, technology fails and at some point will be crippled in a nation wide attack - VHF, CB, radios etc, start to look better and better. Having a meeting point, or multiple points is critical.
How long can your familly survive on what you have on the shelfs? Water? Sanitary? entertainment? living in the city is a bad idea in times of famine, and pandemic. I am lucky enough to have 2 homes and can escape to the other if need be. Friends and family in other locations outside obvious targets areas is a simple enough plan.
Best plan - is to have a plan.

Aviv correctly predicted these attacks,,, probably because he was complicit in them. It is no secret that MOSSAD was culpable for the 9 / 11 attacks. The more scare that israel can put into Americans, the easier it is to control them.
But, the tide has changed. Both the US and the middle eastern leaders have put a peace deal on track. Israel may have fooled a lot of Americans about 9 / 11 but, GOV knows what happened. It won't do any good for israel to pull off any more attacks and blame on them on Bin-Laden or Al Queda.
Aviv may have been indulging in wishful thinking when he predicts more attacks. The US had no enemies in the middle-east until we gained israel as a friend. The US can't allow Netanyahu to run loose. Now is the time to slap down israel. Russia will make sure that any war with Iran will effectively start WW III. The US can ill afford any expensive nuclear wars.
If Obama takes the heat on slapping down israel, our AIPAC controlled congress can dodge the bullet. If israel is slapped down, they wouldn't have anything to gain by doing any more false-flag attacks. Hopefully, even the rabid dog netanyahu will understand this.
While public-space attacks could be carried out easily, I don't expect them to be a problem. Al Queda and the Taleban were invented by the CIA so that we would have to fight a faceless, stateless bogeyman. We can't win. That strategy has made lots of bucks for the military-industrial-banking complex. We've run out of money so, there isn't any point in continuing the ruse.
If a real state caused an attack [besides israel] GOV would identify them immediately. Lockerbie was a good example. No state really wants to take that risk right now.
I just don't expect a foreign attack.

You screw your pistol to their forehead and escort them out. In dire straits it is everyone for themselves. I would have no problem extirpating my house of refugees. At the same time, I may be compassionate enough to feel their plight. It is a case by case situation.ygmir wrote:you might consider, as I have, if someone else gets to your "escape" house before you......how do you get them out?

well, yeah, if you can get that close, and, if they're not armed, and, don't want to fight..........mdmf007 wrote:You screw your pistol to their forehead and escort them out. as you say, in desperate situations............and, not only that, if you kick them out, what stops them from coming back?.......well.....err..........hhhhmmmmmmm. That's a tough one.
But, one a person has to be willing to do to protect "their own"........
I agree with the compassion, too....if they're just tired, cold, hungry, and, do get belligerent, welcome.........
My idea is a way to chase them out, no matter who they are, without burning the place down, and, from a fairly remote location.........
Just get 'em gone, and then, reclaim your spot.

There's a book titled "Lucifer's Hammer" By Niven and Pournell. It's a "post comet impact" story. The guy has a hidey hole in the mountains. When he gets there, it's crammed full of people, mostly children. He wasn't ready to push them out and watch them die.

I'd rather be accused of "gloom and doom" that to be accused of failing to point out advancing problems that I was aware of.
This paper makes it pretty clear;
http://www.thetreeofliberty.com/vb/show ... hp?t=60689
GOV and the banks are trying to postpone a reckoning. One has to wonder at the absurd stupidity of our current approach. $ trillions in capital is being thrown at the financial system. "They" are hoping for a postponement. A logical analysis would imply that the banks want to "drag out" the writing-off of bad paper until the producing economy can produce the capital to absorb the losses. Banks produce very little capital.
SO, while the producing economy is being starved to collapse, the producing economy is expected to produce the capital in the future that is going to cover the losses to the banks.
The bankers aren't totally stupid,,,, they're totally desperate. With present bond sales, GOV can't continue to operate. GOV needs $ 23.95 billion a day [Market Oracle] . The FED is printing about $ 90 billion a month. If the FED prints too much, runaway inflation will wipe out the bond market. If GOV defaults, that will wipe out the bond market.
Moodys has already said that the US was in danger of losing it's AAA rating. I think that they've already decided and are trying to let us get used to the idea. If the bond market blows, GOV will essentially freeze up. The FOREX will burn. Capital flight will be the name of the game. Even though April is tax month, GOV's expenditures for April were more than it's tax receipts. [Lost my reference]
The FED can't be expected to print $ 500 billion a month. Imagine if GOV employees were paid in scrip. California will be close to that by July.
GOV /Banking is only working on a postponement. There isn't any palatable solution.
Radical self-sufficiency.
This paper makes it pretty clear;
http://www.thetreeofliberty.com/vb/show ...

Best thing is the Fed cant default. They would be required to print more money furthering inflation and snowballing the problems with an even more devalued dollar.can't sit still wrote:.....If GOV defaults, that will wipe out the bond market.....
Pretty soon the dollar will be counted out like pesos. 3500 dollars for a gallon of milk, etc....

007, if GOV needs $ 21.95 billion a day, they can't realistically print it all. Zimbabwe hit 235 million % inflation. The US could easily collapse the dollar with over-printing. Imagine what the economy would do if oil was $ 2,000 a barrel.

sounds like a catch 22. We are screwed no matter what. Obama poses as a consensus builder and performs like a capitulator in a time where fearless
bare knuckle leadership is required.
