VIRGIN!
Ok...so, I'm Kaitlyn. I've always wanted to go to burning man, but school got in the way. Now I am graduated, and nothing is going to stop me from experiencing this! I have read all the survival guides etc. Now...what do I REALLY need to know? How do I find a project to work on? How do I know where I should be??? HELP!
Thank you in advance for your sage wisdom!

Hi Kaitlyn and welcome to the insane world of Burning Man. If you have not done so already, you may want to connect with some local burners in your area to make some contacts. Also, some advice for a first timer is to not go crazy on making your art the first year, but come, enjoy, participate and see what things are all about and then next year you can go crazy!
If you connect with a local group, they may have a project that they are working on as well as a camp you could join.
Now, brace yourself for the time of your life!!
Again, WELCOME!

Welcome Kaitlyn! I delt with that darn first week of schooling getting in the way for a few years myself, so I know what you're sayin'. Anyway, I agree with Shambala, you should just come and explore the wonders that await. You should be, exactly where you want to be! Join up with some locals or a camp for a place to start. Shoot, you're welcome to come hang at our camp if you want, you can even sing some choir music on our open mics. It won't be vegan though, cause we be grillin' da MEAT! Hehe...
See you on the playa!
See you on the playa!

Hehe
Thank you for all the resonses so far. Keep em coming. ANY advice at all...anything you think I should know. WHATEVER! Teach me! I have read and re-read lists of what to bring, how to get there, faq's (on the regular site and on eplaya), and everything I could find that has to do with newbies/virgins/etc. However, as I am sure it was for you...I am a bit overwhelmed. I have HEARD tons about burning man from a friends dad who heads up OBOP (Ojai Bureau of Pleasure)...but that is only one mans prespective.
And I know people say just to come and enjoy...but I hate sitting on the side lines. I want to help and be involved in ANY way that I can. I work in the non-profit sector, and I know all too well the importance of team work and volunteerism.
K...well...that's all for now.

I have a possible idea. The invitation would have to come from the Camp boss, but I believe we are looking for a few more folks in Camp Apokiliptika. It's kind'a a spoof on a doomsday cult, but this year we are also running with the Evolution theme. For example, we are creating a "Dr. Moreau" or "Frankenstein" type of laboratory where we will be extracting DNA from people and creating weird humanoid animals. We could really use someone who can create such animals, and then participate in the skit. For the animals, we are probably talking large stuffed toys, but costumes on a person would also work -- and be more fun. First on the list is a cat with human female boobs. We need to find a fairly authentic looking large stuffed toy cat, and then we need a store window manikin or some such for the boobs. Then install the boobs on the cat. Or a cat costume with strategic cutouts for the real boobs. Does this sound like your kind of participation?
