Kitchy llittle project im working on - thoughts, any designs

Kitchy little art project I am bringing this year for participants. I work with metals for a hobby, and cut some dies to use with a punch. There will be an assortment of punches at a self service press.

Step one - select stamp to be made, dog tag shape, personalized, bar codes, BM logo 2009 etc. I should have 6 or 7 dies by then.

Step two - select stock and lock in machine.

Step three - pull handle and emboss or punch your design, cut chain hole, and cut out shape all in one lever.

deburr edges, reset for next guy and enjoy.

I was thinking Brass, Aluminum, and light Stainless (stainless is hard up tears up dies) Copper, etc. Soft metals.

Send or post some simple black and white art, and I can cut it. maximum size is about as big as a playing card. The dies can cut all the way through removing material or simply emboss.

Just one die - I have to cut it yet on the mill.

That's a great idea.

Three years ago we had a die cut for making those elongated pennies and had a design with the BM logo and out camp name and then punched a hole in one end, strung them on leather straps and used them for gifting.

Your idea is lots more interactive.

Sounds like a great idea. Is it going to be something that only one person can use at a time or can multiple people get involved? Maybe an industrialized group process?

I wonder about cutting the hole. Does this mean you'll have tiny bits of metal becoming MOOP.

Maybe a shade to wear while tanning, so the barcode appears in sun-burn?

I like the concept that people get to see, and even experience, a mechanical process. Most folks these days have no idea how things get made -- how tools work.

Please make trippple sure nobody -- no matter how drunk -- can lose a finger tip in the mechanism. An eye shield might also be a good idea.

Have you seen the giant gravity-powered hammers that strike coins at Renaissance fairs?

Damn, you should bring it with you and just let people squish their own pennies for free.

great idea!
I love the die cuts for paper, but this rocks. I want one. I'll hang out at your place.

anyway, for a design, have you thought of doing a brain or an Einstein or that strip of drawings that show the evolution from fish to monkey to man?

We don't have the machine. I'm sure they are pretty pricey. We just found a company that makes a die of your design and then makes the pennies (or nickles) for you and ships them out.

That's why MDMF's idea sounds so cool.
