Having more than one account does not necessarily lead to socky actions, my dear whack-a-doo.jkisha wrote:SOCKS do not count. If a person chooses to have more than one account, they forfeit the right to high post count.

Sometimes an actual change in on Playa character can necissitate the need for a change in name, as is my case.
I do have a third sock, and like some others here , he only comes out to play when a real sock needs ganged up on for being too socky.
........you might consider having a sock sometime in the future too...if nothing else but to give your other hand a chance at some action.

I disagree with you on this. If you have multiple socks, then you should get extra credit for having high post counts, not penalties. It takes much more work to handle multiple accounts.jkisha wrote:SOCKS do not count. If a person chooses to have more than one account, they forfeit the right to high post count.

I have another name that I registered many years ago, but due to a personality change, I had to start a new one with a fresh post count.

I don't really get the sock thing, exactly.
Personality change?
I'm not putting it down, I think I just don't grasp the concept well........
you mean like:
one sock is a snarky bitch pouty face....
and, one is an intellectual snob,
and,
one is a just a half witted man-whore?

Maybe a better way to explain is this. There is a new poster on the "introduce yourself" thread. He used his full first and last name on there. As time goes on, he may feel that it's too intrusive if, let's say, his wife starts looking at his posts and comments about eveything he writes. Also, people that he met along the way now can see everything that he write and can attribute back to him. What started off very innocent, can turn into a problem. He may talk about specific problem people at his camp.
If someone uses a sock puppet to be a dick head and to antagonize people, then they should have the account pulled. I really wish that there was some way to just change the name.

I have another account on here too, but I agree: it doesn't count... Anyway like I said I lurked on this forum for like 3 years without posting anything. I'm like some creepy homeless guy that lives in the bushes across from your house and occasionally watches your lives for entertainment... Ok bad analogy, but let's just say I wasn't "participating" for a while...

No offense, but that's the biggest crock of crap I've heard in a long time. If a person doesn't have the courage to acknowledge who they are and what they post, then they shouldn't be posting to begin with; and certainly shouldn't have this behavior rationalized or defended.Shambala wrote:Maybe a better way to explain is this. If the guy that Shambala speaks of used his real name for a few years, there might be some wonderous story
that he might weave to us about having an affair at Burning Man while his wife was at home with the kids....
she could maybe get nosy enough and search for his posts and see what he was doing at Burning Man
that makes him so depressed when he has to come home.
Then the shit would hit his fan.
If he stayed anonymous, she would have a real hard time with finding it out unless she knew his ePlaya name.
That is just one example and now I have several more in my head, but there is no need to type all of them,
because animosity is not just a privelage here, it is a right, as it is on almost all forums.
......in my instance, my persona was associated so closely with my previous camp's name , that it became my nickname.
I never chose it, but I rolled with it so people would know who I was both on realPlaya and on ePlaya.
Mark(marque?), the artist who was behind the Waterboy camp, had the exact same thing happen to him,
and he hated being called Waterboy, but everyone knew him as that, so...........
I was never happy or comfortable with that nickname, so when we called it quits in our camp in 2007,
I dropped the nickname after using it for 8 years.
I joined a new camp and chose a new name that is a little more tongue-in-cheek,
you all Know know me now as OneEyedDick.
MY previous Nickname was GreenPenis, as was the name of my previous camp.
It doesn't just roll off of your tounge so well in public.
Even Larry Harvey kinda pulled back his hand a little when someone introduced me to him the first time.
There is no "sock" actions performed here by either of my Eplaya names...well ...except once,
but it was in context jokingly when I announced my name change in the Booby Bar thread in 2007.
and by the way Jkisha....Is that your REAL name ???(I don't really care)
my real name is Dick, but you can call me Dick...Hey there, and welcome to Eplaya !

Maybe the best way to explain it to you is that it's simply a name change. A sock is meant to deceive, but a name change is just meant to change your name. Does that make it easier?jkisha wrote:

If a new person shows up here and is antagonistic and combative from the start, then they are probably a sock. At some point down the road, you may want to get away from the persona of the little wanker greeter avatar using what is assumed is your real name and simply open another account with a different name. This would not be considered a sock puppet, but a name change.

I think you're making my point, not arguing against it. Not that I'm one to judge, but if he shouldn't have had the affair, he shouldn't have posted about it. Two wrongs don't make a right--not even on eplaya. What a 'dick' that person would be--how much more disrespectful to his wife could he be? (I know that was only an 'example' but you can tell what poor example I thought it was.)oneeyeddick wrote:

And yes, John Kisha is my real name. There is no reason I would ever consider not using it. Again, if I have to hide behind an alias in order to say something--chances are I shouldn't be saying it to begin with.
There were a few reasons mentioned that I might consider legitimate, like a name (more specifically a board 'handle') being associated with a camp and then changing camps, for example; but I wouldn't approve of this either without the first post from that new identity clearly explaining who he was.
Most of the newer forums actually allow a moderator to change the user account to accomodate such things; I'm surprised this one doesn't.

I think you misunderstood the example....
The keywords were "there might be some wonderous story

his depression would be from not decompressing properly....maybe his story would just be him releasing some creativity, no matter how ficticious it might be, there is nothing wrong with writing a little fiction to get it out of your system.....if his was a fantasy, then so be it, but that "fantasy" could get him in trouble with his wife if she went looking for the source of his depression after coming home to defaultia.

The majority of us here use 'nicknames' for various reasons, some to keep our personal identity from being used elsewhare, some so that they could more easily be remebered on realPlaya and so on and on and on.

As naive as this might sound, I post here to help develop relationships with people I hope to meet on the real playa. It just seems that having SOCKS would not help in achieving that objective.

I think that what you mean to say was Multiple Personality or something similier. schizophrenia is when you hear voices coming out of the radio telling you to do stupid things and you believe that people are out to get you, I can't see why you'd need to join a computer BBS for that. Much less join it twice. Unless you thought that having multiple log-ins somehow was a defence against the enemies. That particular confusion is very common, but it is the 21st century and some amazing progress has been made in treatments of various mental disorders; maybe it's time lay people learn a bit more about madness. Especially as stupid public decisions based on misunderstandings are killing people all the time. Makes me sick.ygmir wrote:I guess I'm just dense.......I still don't get it....other than for pure entertainment......

That was SWEET !!!
* APPLAUSE *
My voices come not from the radio but from below the beltline.
They always say the same thing ....over and over and over...........
" Release the clowns or the kitten drowns "
It doesn't keep me up at night anymore now that my girlfiend started drugging my cocktails.
