Lightbulb! I'm going to Burn!

Post by ody » Wed Apr 08, 2009 11:40 am

I don't know where it came from, but I decided yesterday morning out of no where that I am going to go to BM this year. Alas, I am a virgin and have no idea what-so-ever how I am going to accomplish this feat. I am of course reading the survival guide and scouring these forums.

I will have just got out of the Navy at that time and need to decompress from all that uniformity and other unfavorables. I guess Burning seemed like an ideal way to mark the end of that phase in my life and get attuned to the man before starting college.

I am very exited about this decision and feel like time is in short supply to get ready! Ah where to start!

Your first post and just hearing about Burning Man! Ahh, fresh virgin.
There is a book available on Amazon, as well as eBay called "Burning Book". It's the best book I've ever seen on Burning Man. I would recommend getting this book and thumbing through it to see what things are all about. BM is a great place to get things nice and straight in your head.

Welcome to the forum and welcome to BM!

Ahoy, welcome aboard. I'm ex-navy and MyLArry is retired Navy. Lot of vets out there. Active duty too, we've had sailors in camp.

MOOP = gear adrift.

Where to start? Right here, of course. Got your ticket?

No ticket yet. Next pay day is purchase day so that will be taken care of. I spent a good amount of time thinking about it today and read a ton of threads here.

Seemed a lot of people are hating on the RV's, and I can kind of see the cookie cutter, suberbia , RV's not in the spirit point of view, but at the same time I think I'd rather rock an RV than tent it. I think there has to be a compromise there.. this now has me lurking craigslist for the mythical $500 beater fifth wheel.. something I can paint up and decorate. Not a full blown mutant mobile, something to give me the benefits of an RV without being a sterile box. Does that sound about right as being cohesive with the spirit?

really, to be truly cohesive and in the spirit, don't so much concern youself with where you sleep, or, with whom, IMHO, moreso, concern yourself with bringing massive amounts of bacon, PBR, and, popsicles, and, give them away........

We'll all love whatever you sleep in, after that..........

grin.

Welcome Ody! Get ready to really "let the journy begin"

I'll be returning from overseas to clear my own head as well this year. Stop by my camp and we'll unwind over a cold beverage!

Welcome ody. I must agree with ygmir in that it is a good idea to bring lots of bacon and PBR. These can be your best friends on the playa. Looking forward to seeing ya in the dust.

I'm seeing mad references to PBR and bacon and you know what? I LOVE PBR and bacon! I am so down! Nothing strikes me as a better venue to get attuned back to the real world like frying up some bacon and handing out PBR en mass. Feeling it now for sure! Just don't know where I should camp out.. kinda feel like I'd prefer to have a spot ahead of time vice just soloing it. Looked at the forum for the camps and nothing really stuck me as "that's the spot!" Was thinking early involvement in these forums might pan out to find something, but time will tell... I still have some time, but the count down is BURNING!

A friend of mine recently discovered bacon-flavored vodka, and plans on bringing it in large quantities.

Bacon-flavored PBR?

Also, tenting it is okay as long as you have a shade structure over it. Costco carports are relatively cheap ($200), keep the tent nice and cool, add a small amount of dust protection, and give you a nice homey space to relax in the shade...just secure it properly with rebar.

Just my personal recommendation for budget playa comfort.

Between all of the Boobies,Barbies, Bondage and Boogie-till-your-Booty drops camps out there,
I am sure you will find one you that sticks you where it hurts and feels so right at the same time.

Also......

Unless you took an oath , would you mind telling us Boot Camp, where you were stationed, and your name, rank and serial number?

I think I'd prefer ody on the playa, but since you asked I'll meet you half way and say I'm IT2 Andy in sunny San Diego! Actually, by the time BM starts I'll be Ex-IT2 Andy. Or is that CIV1? Seems like a promotion. I get so confused. Ok, Ody will do.

Just prodding you Ody, If you wish for further interrogation while at Burning Man, be sure to swing by the Booby Bar in Terminal city for some Booby Boarding(think water boarding)

At the very least I promise to give you a one-eyed salute !!!
