booblies Intro

Post by booblies » Sun Apr 12, 2009 12:19 pm

1st time Burner from Chicago...coming with wife looking for a camp to stay at on the playa? Any suggestions she is quiet but very spiritual and I am a music loving, abstract art loving mofo.

ODDS & ENDS: Grateful Dead, Hikes, Cyberpunk, Breathing Deep, Sociology, Photo Manipulation, People Watching, Computers, MagicDuel, Living In The Moment, Language, Global Warming, Wishing, Soccer, Geocaching, Nature, Chess, Ogrish Forum, And I'm often told that I have a cool Chicago accent. PEACE~

Welcome to the madness from another virgin. There is a small group of us trying to set up a geocaching event/theme camp at BRC. Don't know if GC has approved it yet.
You know it's going to be a bad day when you jump out of bed and miss the floor.

I have been for two years now, and both times have simply found an open area and plopped some tents and shade structures down. Both times we also made instant friends with our neighbors and now maintain contact with them on and off the playa. You don't seem like the antisocial type, so I would actually recommend rolling the dice and seeing who you end up next to. Everybody is always happy to adopt a virgin, too, just as long as you are friendly, open, and don't take yourself too seriously. :P Seriousness is death at Burning Man.

Also, if you wait a year or two, then you can start to get the feel of the community and can better decide who you might want to camp with. I have hooked up with Above the Limit (plane rides and home-brewed beer) this year and am glad that I waited.

Basically, for your first year you should worry more about bringing everything you need to camp with and worry less about where you're going to camp. At least, as long as you get there early. Definitely get there early (as in Monday or Tuesday). It's harder to bond with neighbors when they're rolling in all fresh and clean and you have already been playafied for days.

You forgot sunsets and long walks on the beach.
