Something i would want in my open me first box would have to be no doubt an extra pair of shoes. For me i drive in dare feet, so i would throw a pair of sandles, shoes,or socks, but i am just odd like that.
Also be sure your tent/shade is easy to grab, in or near your open my first.
I personally set up my small tent first, taking everything out of my car and putting it in it and then set up my sleeping tent.

Imagine Duct Tape, only, its not shiney, sticks twice as good, and doesn't leave glue residue all over everything it sticks to. Also, it doesn't peel off when it gets hot and leave strings of crap all over everything.tequila dave wrote:great list, but what the hell is gaffers tape?
Then imagine it is 2-3 times the cost of duct tape but worth every penny of it.
I use one of those smaller plastic tubs, fits my “open first” stuff, my belt pouch and Camel-Bak,inside. Rides up front with me or very back if I carry people. This is always in my vehicle if I leave town, so it is not just a BM thing. And there is water in the Camel-Bak

Here's mine. Designed to kick camp up and functional within an hour of Playafall:
•Hydropak (in the car, with me)
• Full water bladder, extra bladder, Vaseline, Sunblock, Lip balm, Nasal saline, Sunglasses/goggles, Lighter,
• Towel,
• Bottle of Dr. Bronner’s,
• First aid kit,
• 2 sarongs,
• Garbage bags,
• Battery Lantern,
• Headlamp,
• 3 Concrete stakes,
• Bungee cords,
• Skin lotion,
• 2 Solar showerbags,
• Pocket multi-tool,
• Mallet,
• Zip-ties.
Obviously one's OMF box is as individual as one's camp. It depends on what your experience is, your camp-pitching style and pacing, as well as providing for a night Playafall.
In addition: I'm going to pack my solar lanterns along the south (right, traveling in from the northwest) side of my roof rack so they charge up all day while I'm driving to the Playa. Ready to go when I land. Might also lay a full solar showerbag on top of the roof rack luggage so it'll do the same.
As for inbound food, I'll carry that separately from the OMF box. It, like the hydropak, will be up front with me. Probably smoked salmon, chocolate bark, et alia.

12X16X22 inches,, cloak and hat do sit on top of it though.
Tent and Shade are in bags that are right at the back of the car
