Wow, I was wasted... "Animals in Translation". Good book, cowritten by an autistic woman, actually, mainly written by, and edited.

Brain as an onion, once again, theory, fun to think about, though. Makes sense, in a way. Reptilian, mammalian, and "us". Could be true.

For me, the theme this year is less about the concept of Darwinian evolution than:
THE EVOLUTION OF CONSCIOUSNESS.

There is something deeper and more "YOU" than your intellect, your emotions, your name and your history.

"YOU" can't be explained with words or thoughts.
"YOU" are the consciousness that words and thoughts appear in.

The genetic code for every person on this planet is 99% the same...
yet we spend our lives focusing on that 1% difference between us. We fight wars over our thoughts. We build altars to our differences so we can worhip them. We get caught up in the "tangled bank".

It's time to open our eyes.

Until I saw "The Evolution Tree", I did not understand why some Christian sects have chosen evolution as the tiny part of modern science to battle.

What is the best way to counteract the evil fruit of evolution? Opposing these things one-by-one is good, but it does not deal with the underlying cause. The tree will produce fruit faster than it can be spotted and removed. A more effective approach is to chop the tree off at its base by scientifically discrediting evolution. When the tree falls, the fruit will go down with it, and unbelieving man will be left "without excuse" (Romans 1/21). That is the real reason why scientific creationism represents such a serious threat to the evolutionary establishment!

For me, it means evolving to escape the bondage of tyrants... of those who have "lorded" over our minds/souls for centuries, causing us nothing but fear and guilt in their manipulative deceptions.

Evolution means survival of the fittest, a winnowing of the herd based on changing conditions.

Evolution means that whoever is there at the end of the week who got there at the beginning has embraced the theme.

Just remember that everyone alive today is a complete evolutionary badass. We have beaten the odds for millions of years, and killed or domesticated everything in our path. We kick ass, as a species.
