vh1 casting call

Post by III » Sun Apr 11, 2004 10:58 am

it seems vh1 is planning on doing a burning man documentary without actually going to burning man. it may just be a way for them to get around llc supervision and censur.

i'm sure it'll bring out the jerri manthey types, but it might also provide an opportunity for the culture jammers out there to have some fun...

Put it on the PDX caco list. Let's see what bubbles up.
Bloodthirsty cultists? Facial ticks and epilepsy?
I could have fun with this one.

FYI...

Rob, One little trick I learned from DVD Burner was to copy the text from the old post, make the changes in a new post, and delete the old post. Problem solved, obviously it a hassle and an unessary work-around for an a simple edit button, but hey... if it works it works.

I love it! You give them your story, your voice, your image, you let them film your art, they give you $50.00 so they can put it on T.V. and make 100's of thousands of dollars.

Well, if you and your 3 sock puppets send in your stories that covers the ticket cost...

Erm, I'd better qualify this. I meant you as in general not you as in specifically Chai Guy.

I sent her an e-mail just to see if it's real or not. I doubt she responds back.

A reply from both VH1 and BM...

Post by Plaid » Wed Apr 14, 2004 1:48 pm

I think it's safe to call this one a dead issue.

From VH1:
I appreciate your request and I don't think we are going to be doing a BM piece.  I do, however, think I am going to attend with all the great stories I'm hearing.  I hope that is okay with you.

From RonJon (BM):
Wow. that's very interesting. I was aware that a number of people wrote to this woman complaining about what it sounded like. That's good news. I hate playing the heavy, but do it when necessary.

We do allow a large number of video  crews to film each year. I'd guess we turn down 20-30 based on what they want to shoot, which is typically exploitive, lowest-common-denominator stories.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up on this. I really appreciate you taking the time to write to the woman and also passing the comments along to me.

While I agree that one of the duties of the BM media ptb is to proctect BM and it's "image," I don't recall reading anywhere in the ad that VH1 had anydesire to film at the event itself. Perhaps this was mentioned in individual emails?

Yeppers... I cut out anything he might not consider public information. At any rate, they've got their eye on her... and that's all I can ask of them.

Hey, girl! I'll call you about this weekend... going to Artwalk?

Love,

Oh, I see how you are.

But who is sending your Gig-Card to the printer, huh? Who can make any little change she wants without you knowing it? Who can add "Trey's favorite movie is Howard the Duck in blacklight ink on your card?

Who, I ask?

That's right, me. You better keep that plaid safe, young man. You've been warned.

Oh, fine, be that way.

Someone's already got a polka dot campain in the works... but with no one to take the name, they're failing miserably.

And, I like paisley... reminds me of sperm. I think that should be YOUR new nickname!

Thanks Paisley!

I like the nickname "Sperm" better, though not for myself, of course.

[quote="Simply Joel"]Who has time for VH1 anymore?

come to think of it, a "Larry Harvey, Behind The Music" episode might be mildly entertaining.

Post by Alchemy » Mon Apr 26, 2004 9:56 pm

Cuz Im so Obessed....Ive got a back stage pass to blow the man.Ive got all his records and like Id do anything fer his auto graph....

My stories dont come that cheap, I give em away fer free or if you want to pimp it you better give me enough to ease my guilt cuz like chances are....if its VH1 it might be a little like say, CHEEZED with a spring break thang.

If Im gonna look like an idiot I want Artistic control my bretherin
Besides..The current word is that BM is too commercial to go if youve never been..ie " I heard its Too Comercial anyway" thats what Ive been told by perhaps thirty people this year who havent been.
cool.
