'09 temple?
'09 temple?
I was just wondering if anyone knew who was building the temple this year.
I'm just curious, and I can't find anything about this year's temple.
Thanks!

I think David Best is a brillant artist and Burning Man would be lucky to have him build another temple...
however I think he stated that his temple of 2007 which was dedicated to his parents would be his last.
The honorarium grants and art installations will be announced in April, and the temple is usually announced at that time.

David has said that before though. I'm hoping for one more...SFbrothermichael wrote:I think David Best is a brillant artist and Burning Man would be lucky to have him build another temple...

Without a temple
We could all leave a day earlier and get back to our lives. No more Monday exodus.Ugly Dougly wrote:Do we always have to have a temple?
How about a rut in the road that we drag ourselves through every year? That would be fun.

Lives? We have lives? Why have I never heard about this before? Where can I pick up my live? I hope it's not like that Venus Fly Trap that died on me. I hate complicated pets.Marscrumbs wrote:We could all leave a day earlier and get back to our lives. No more Monday exodus.Ugly Dougly wrote:Do we always have to have a temple?

I would love to see another temple from David. His work is beautiful. I thought last years temple was beautiful too, but it was too busy. The stairs in the middle really detracted from the peacefulness. It was difficult to find a place to "be still" there.¡Niers! wrote:I like David's work, but I think he needs to try something different. Don't get me wrong, his temples have been amazing but I think he should ditch that cnc cutter for once.
I remember making a comment about this on Eplaya last year and getting a scathing PM from the Temple boss, or his girlfriend. Can't remember exactly. Kinda surprised me.

I remember that...I guess you have to think about it like any other actor or artist--or just any person with a vested interest--who likes to hear negative criticism?--even if deserved.brcprincess wrote:I would love to see another temple from David. Did it last year and plan on doing the same this year.....It's not the sitting in line, cuz we had out tons of goodies to all around, it's the way people drive trying to get in front of the line just to pull over at the 1st "Indian Taco" stand.. Why the FUCK someone needs to pass 20-25 cars/rv/trailers on a uphill blind corner just blows.Finnegan wrote:I think that's a grand plan. yeah, I'm bummed at how people drive on "exodus".
not only jogging and cutting as the line dwindles to the highway entrance, dusting everyone around them as they scoot over, but, such unsafe passing and all.........Jeeze.......I was doing around 50 once on the open highway, and, I'd see these dip-wads passing multiple cars behind me, and me, and having no idea if someone is coming. Or, if someone is coming, diving back in line at the last minute, making the people next to them swerve and hit the brakes, etc, to avoid them.
We were discussing, how people get right back into the default mentality as soon as the event is done (for them), even while still on the playa getting out.......
sad that some pay a huge price for this.

Yes, it is a shame to see that sort of behavior at exodus. Didn't these people learn anything during the week? And, is defaultia really so great that they are willing to kill and or be killed just to return to it a few minutes earlier?

I was going to say civic funding of fake spirituality isn't exactly in the American tradition, but that was last year's theme.
